I wish we could normalize negative stars, even if the worst you could give was a negative 1 to make a point.
Bottom line up front: we transparently told management we intended to leave a negative review and we were offered a credit for one night. We posted the negative review and were subsequently contacted by management and told they'd refund our whole stay if we took the review down. When I asked the manager why the full refund wasn't offered during the original conversation, she told me she didn't believe we'd post it. Very interesting technique, One Hotel.
We stayed at this property over Christmas and are still actively telling everyone we know visiting the area to avoid this place (and yesterday was Valentine's day).
We were victims of the bait and switch you can see in other reviews where we book and paid for a higher tier king bed room, but instead got a view that isn't as advertised, a queen bed, and no heat. When conversing with the front desk about the issue, we were told at first we were wrong, there was no way it was a queen bed, only for the manager to later confirm it was (management-probably need to coach your front line, this seems to be a recurring issue for your guests).
We were offered another room on floor three next to the loud appliances that no one ever wants... that's exactly how it was pitched to us, "sorry we gave you a lesser room, but the only other one we can give you is even worse and no one ever wants it." Classy.
After we finally got settled into a third room that magically became available later, the manager tried to deploy service recovery techniques with us and connected us with the concierge that was supposed to help us rebook a show we missed due to the check in disaster, but the concierge never called us back. He'd called us to confirm the price point we had, so he knew how to reach us...
As I spoke with the manager about our dissatisfaction and points of contention (all of which are not listed in this review), she verbalized to me that they are not what you would consider traditional high end/luxury. I had shared my very positive experiences with her that we had at The Pierre, Mandarin Oriental, The Trump, The Conrad, Lotte, and Loews, and she basically admitted they aren't up to those standards. But yet, they are happy to charge a nightly price that would lead one to believe they rival the other properties.
If you want a place that will give you the room you pay for, have a team that will honor their commitments, not have to listen to the room service crew complain about management, know what you're going to get when you order room service, have a helpful hand at the entrance when your hands are full of luggage, get help hailing a taxi if needed, have heat or air conditioning, and not have to audit your folio for incorrect charges (yeah.. the 'one night credit' they offered was originally applied backwards and they instead were charging us even more for the horrendous experience)..... even the management agrees that One Hotel is not the...
Read moreWe booked two rooms for the week after Memorial Day back in January. I booked them over the phone with a hotel representative. They were held with my credit card. We have been planning this New York Trip for over 8 months; it was going to be the first time in NYC for my husband and I, our daughters and my parents.
This morning I messaged the hotel on their online text to see if there was a possibility of adding another night into the beginning of our trip. We were so excited we were going to drive there in a day instead of the 2 day drive we originally planned. An automation responded to me that my reservation had been cancelled. What!?! I texted back that surely they were mistaken. They responded that it was cancelled under suspicion of fraud. Again, this is 2 days before our stay is supposed to start. I attempted to call the hotel to sort out this misunderstanding. This is a $6,500 reservation at a 5 star hotel I made 5 months ago. After being on hold for nearly 30 mins, I am told that our reservation has been cancelled. They don’t know why, the system just says fraud and they don’t contact the person when fraud is involved. Also, there are now no rooms available. No phone call was made, or attempt to contact me. I would have shown up to find out this had been done had I not seen a mere message hidden in a chat in an app. No call, txt via phone or email. The people I spoke with were incredibly rude and could care less about my situation to top this experience off.
I can’t even call this horrible customer service, because there was NO customer service. I had to scramble to book another hotel with 1 day notice at a much higher cost. Telling this story online as a review is the only recourse I have. My family and I have stayed at many 5 star hotels in many cities and received excellent treatment and have been extended extreme courtesy even over the phone. The lack of any explanation from the hotel staff is just confounding. They might as well have said ‘sucks to be you’ and hung up the phone.
What fraud cancelled our 5 month reservation? We are real people with real money to pay! Beware of booking, you may show up and not...
Read moreBeautiful Eco focused hotel located in a prime location within walking distance of key locations such as Central Park, Rockefella Centre, 5th Avenue and more. Plenty of Subway stations and also nearby for those wishing to travel further.
The staff at the hotel are all very friendly and helpful and always happy to help. Even before my flight I had email correspondence from concierge asking if I needed anything before my arrival. As my arrival as early I was given the opportunity to wait for a room on a higher floor and a little better than what I booked so did so storing my luggage with them and popping back later. Being so close to central park it was easy to kill a little time. The room 1102 was lovely, clean and well decorated it had all the amenities I could have needed from the rainforest and jet shower to the bedside reading lights and USB ports which where very handy for charging my electronic items without needing to use travel adapters everywhere. The room had both privacy curtains and black out meaning it was plenty dark enough to get a good night's sleep in. I did however feel the room would have benefitted from better sound proofing as noise from the hallway could be heard and the loud streets of the city (even at floor 11). The in room smart phone was handy for requesting any room service, maintenance requests, bill checking, controlling room lights (standard buttons to control lights are on the walls also), and communicating with staff. The hotel did not forget about my birthday and treated me to a cake and birthday note, which was a nice personal touch.
The hotel features plenty of meeting space on floor 2 and also a gym though I did not make use of it. I did try the Jams restaurant for breakfast and was pleased with the friendly service from the waiting staff. The hotel also offers a drop off Tesla service which I didn't get round to making use of.
After check out the staff where once again happy to store my luggage until I was ready to leave. When I was they kindly helped me into my taxi ensuring my...
