SoHo Cigar Bar — Restaurant in New York

Had a pleasant experience to begin with. 4 of us were there to enjoy an evening out. This place had a great atmosphere with good bar selection for drinks and a wide variety of cigars to choose from. Overall it was a memorable experience u til the end of the night. Value was decent but cigars were a tad pricey but we were paying for the experience.

The end of the night was the turnoff for me. We paid the bill and left around 1:30 am. I went to the washroom and left my hip pouch at the table with my friends. I came out of the washroom and my friends were not at the table anymore and went outside. I didn’t think to go back to the table to get my pouch and just went outside. We took an Uber back to the hotel and I realized I didn’t have my pouch. I called the cigar bar right away to see if they had it. The bartender or server answered and said they had it after I told them where we were sitting. They told me they were closing soon and to knock when I got there as the door would be locked after 2 am. I went back in an Uber and got back there around 2:05 am. I knocked, they answered and I got my pouch back. I said thank you and left. I walked about 2-3 blocks before I checked the contents in pouch. I didn’t realize I kept my cash wallet in the hidden pocket in the pouch. I checked the wallet to count my cash. I had a lot of bills in the wallet because of the USD $1 bills. I noticed 3 x $100 and 2 x $50 bills missing. What “they” (whoever it was) left me was my 6 x $20 bills and smaller bills. I was hesitant to go back to the cigar bar to accuse anyone of stealing my money because I could not prove anyone took it and who took it, and I also couldn’t prove how much cash I had in the wallet to begin with because it’s cash. I decided to eat the loss because at least I got back my prescription glasses and sunglasses, AirPods and a few other small things. Luckily I didn’t have any cards or IDs in the pouch. I do not think it was the people sitting beside us because they seemed like a nice couple. I do think it was the staff because they only took the big denomination bills ($100s and $50s), in my opinion, the hopes that I would not notice anything missing because of the 30-40 bills still left in the wallet due to the singles. They took the big bills and thought it wouldn’t be noticed until it was too late. Even if I did go back to complain about missing money, I doubt anyone would do the right thing and confess to it. Even if I called the cops to file a report, they wouldn’t have done much. It was my own fault for leaving cash in the pouch and not keeping it on my person, which I usually do. I got careless and will eat the expensive cost of this lesson. Staff were friendly at the beginning but in hind sight did seem awkward when I returned to pickup bag I left behind. The way kids act when they know they did something wrong and trying to hide it from their parents. To whomever took my money, I hope it was worth it for your conscience and karma will get you. I do not condone theft. Guess you needed the money more if you are willing to steal my hard earned money.

I had the pleasure of hosting a birthday party at Soho Cigar Bar, and their outstanding customer service exceeded all expectations. I called about a week in advance to reserve space for a group of approximately 30 people. According to their website, reservations for groups larger than 15 typically require booking a designated space at the bar, which involves additional costs. However, during my call, the staff thoughtfully advised against this, explaining that the nature of birthday parties in NYC often means guests arrive at staggered times, and they anticipated no more than 15 people present at any given moment. This advice was immensely appreciated, as it saved us unnecessary booking fees.

On the day of the event, contrary to expectations, our group was remarkably punctual, and we ended up with significantly more than 15 attendees for most of the evening. Despite not having booked a specific area, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. They graciously created a space for our group, provided complimentary drinks, and even gifted the birthday celebrant a lighter. Their friendliness and hospitality were exceptional throughout the night.

The team also went the extra mile by storing the birthday cake we brought in advance and assisting with its presentation during the celebration. They were incredibly knowledgeable and patient, offering helpful cigar recommendations for our group, many of whom were unfamiliar with cigars.
