the chefs counter definitely adds to the atmosphere here but i think if you’re not sitting at the chefs counter the place is a little bland. the music is also blasted somewhat loudly. atmosphere aside, the service is wonderful! our server was very nice and attentive. he answered all of our questions and guided us to what would be too much or too little food. we were also celebrating and the restaurant was nice enough to pay for our dessert (not to say that they will do this every time but it was very kind). as for the food some was outstanding and others were not so memorable. we started with the burrata which was amazing! the burrata itself was huge, there was a lot of cream inside but the cheese itself was also very high quality. it came with pistachios and a pomodoro jam on top along with a basil oil on the bottom. the flavors all blended together so perfectly. the pomodoro jam had a subtle sweetness to it almost like a strawberry tomato jam. the basil oil was also very unique, tasting a lot like a smooth pesto. we then shared the pasta tasting which i think was worth the price. we were told portions would be half the size of a regular dish which i definitely disagree with (they were smaller than half) but enough none the less. the first of the five was the tagliatelle tartufo nero which was both of our favorites. after this was the cacio e pepe which was very heavy on the pepper so it wasn’t a favorite. we then had the raviolo which was filled with egg yolk and spinach. we also ordered a the paccheri salmone separately (that is not apart of the tasting). the raviolo was another one that we were not impressed with, it lacked flavor and we didn’t like the mix of egg yolk and spinach. the paccheri was my number two pasta of the night, whoever said cheese and fish don’t mix may have been wrong. next on the tasting was the spaghetti pomodoro. this smelled better than it tasted. it ended up being a little on the blander side and i wish the tomatoes packed more of a punch but good nonetheless. it is definitely the best option for a pickier eater. last on the tasting was the linguine vongole. this has the smallest kick and has a strong flavor or white wine. i am not a fan if vongole but my mom is and she liked this pasta very much. my order of the pastas from best to worst was the tagliatelle, paccheri, pomodoro, cacio e pepe, raviolo, linguine. lastly we had the chocolate cheesecake which was the best part of the meal. it is sweet so i would recommend sharing it but the flavors are so good and it is a bit looser because of the caramel. overall i liked this restaurant but i have had better pasta in nyc. i would come back for the burrata alone but none of the pastas make me want...
Read moreI have been coming here for a few years and this is my first bad experience.
I went on a first date here yesterday.
Firstly, we made a reservation for two at 9pm to sit inside, but when we got there, the doors are open. It’s burning up in there from the heat. They serve you room temperature water to drink. I literally ask for a cup of ice for the table and when I drop the ice in the cup, it completely melts because that’s how hot the water is and within 15 minutes the ice cup is completely melted.
With that same aspect, despite sitting deep into the restaurant, right by the bathrooms, I got bit by mosquitoes 10 times on my legs and arms (Silly me for wearing a Skirt to a restaurant). I even told my date that I think I’m getting bit by mosquitoes 10 minutes into the date. I have been itching nonstop since and genuinely have never gotten bit this bad in any other Restaurant.
My other issue with the restaurant, some may not see it as an issue but I certainly do, I ordered a cocktail and hurried to the restroom to wash my hands but by the time I came back, the drink was at the table with my date. I personally would never drink a drink that wasn’t handed to me, as a female. I had maybe two sips of the drink and when I left, the drink was still full. None of the waiters servicing the table asked anything about the drink Or why we bought a $20 cocktail but didn’t drink it. Had they asked I would have just asked to switch cocktails because “I didn’t like it” But that didn’t happen. While I appreciate quick cocktail service, As I am sure First dates happen at this establishment , it would be wise to not leave drinks unattended with men, considering females get roofied in NYC. But even if they don’t, they should consider waiting to serve the drinks when both members are at the table, asking why someone wouldn’t drink their drink fixes the issue also.
The music was so loud you can barely hear the wait staff let alone your date.
Additionally, No substitutions are allowed. My date who is Muslim, asked for no pork in their pasta and was told no substitutions. He said, oh, OK. I asked him why he still got the pasta and he told me he didn’t want to make a big deal about in front of me and he didn’t know what else to order since they rush you so he ate pork for the first time yesterday.
Per usual, the food was fantastic. The service was different, not warm or nice but pretty constant with what you need.
So yeah, overall, turn the music down a little little bit, allow certain substitutions (especially when it comes to religious ), put ice in your drinks, serve drinks when both members are at the table and shut the door so it’s not hot and...
Read moreI found this restaurant a couple of weeks ago when I passed by on a bike. Great design, good music, and wonderful athomsfere got my attention. I stopped and asked the host for a business card with a decision to come back for dinner anytime soon. Last night, we decided to visit this place.
We made a reservation at 9.30 pm but came 10 min earlier. The host was friendly, found our reservation, and told us that our table was already prepared. It was speedy, and it raised a credit for the “Apasta bar” so well. We have been seated on the patio outside, a small patio that looks so nice and cozy. Respect and appreciation to the restaurant for investing money in outdoor seating- it made well done and very tasty. The indoor space in the restaurant also looks very modern, stylish, and atmospheric. The round kitchen in the middle of the restaurant is a good decision for organizing a small place. Next time I ask for a table inside, I'm sure it will be worth it.
We ordered Crudo di Salmone as an appetizer, and it is... Wow! Excellent lightly salted salmon, with soft toast and two unique dipping sauces: Caprese cream and Buffalo ricotta... Yummy and tasty, it came to the table quickly. As an entree, we both decided to try seafood pasta. It took some time to make it, and there can be 30 minutes waiting for an entree. In my opinion, it's excellent for a Saturday night at the busy, popular restaurant, and we had a great conversation during this time. Seafood pasta was good and thanks to the chef for the game on a spicy side. It's very close to over spicy but still on the medium side. Very interesting and tasty. Few words about dessert. We couldn't decide between tiramisu and banana ice cream. The server, a nice sweet guy from Greece (unfortunately, forgot his name ) recommended us to go for a banana ice cream. Thank you so much for the advance: it was amazing! The dessert looks like an art and comes with a part of 24K gold. Fresh and lightly milky taste. Dessert brightly completed our introduction to this place.
Summing up, a restaurant is an amazing place with great cuisine and beautiful space. Looking forward to going o back and of course, recommend to you check it...
