Where to begin.
My daughter is down for a softball tournament and choice hotels are hit and miss. This is another miss.
We get checked in and take our bags up to the 7th floor and the entire floor smells like weed. We walk in the room and there is a weird stench. To the point of burning our eyes. We drop our stuff and leave to kill time for a few hours.
Once we get back to the room our eyes start burning again and my daughter doesn’t want to touch anything so I guide her to sleep in a hoodie on top of the sheets and not to get under them or use a pillow. After looking around I notice one of those shooter things under the bed I’m supposed to sleep in. This is the first time in all my years of personal and business travel that I’ve gone to the front desk and complained about a room.
I take the picture to the front desk and tell him what’s going on and he says “marijuana” and walks off to another room. After he comes back he says he can get me another room and I tell him my daughter is with me and I’m not comfortable with all of this and if he can just refund my room I’ll find another hotel.
He then proceeds to tell me that my reservation was booked on a third party so he can’t refund the room. I tell him that I’m a choice member and booked via the choice hotels app. He then tries to tell me how I booked my room (which he was wrong) and then disappears again to the back room. Clearly he is asking the manager for how to handle this.
When he comes back this time I just ask him if I can speak directly to the manager. He tells me that “there are just some people back there and the manager left for the night and I am the night manager.”
I tell him that since I can’t be refunded I’ll take the other room but I’m not sure that’ll solve the problem since smoke rises. He tells me “this is a very good room.”
I call my daughter and tell her to pack up and we are moving rooms.
Once we get all packed up I get to the floor and it does smell “better” but still “off.” After a walk around of the room there’s only one bed and since she has to compete in the morning I have her the bed, she’s still in a hoodie on top of the sheets. I go to pull the sofa bed out and there was something under the cushion. I say nope and look around and see no viable option so the floor it is.
I booked for two nights but will be checking out first thing in the morning, skipping the breakfast (cause I can’t trust it), and getting a refund for the second night and finding another hotel for Saturday.
This is terrible and will be deleting the choice hotels app from my phone and it’s all IHG from here on out no matter the price.
One would think after all the consistent negative reviews management would stop writing apologetic reviews and just fix the problems.

Read moreThere is a rotten smell when you first enter the room, then it goes away. The bathroom and bedroom floors are not clean. There are bulbs missing in the bathroom light, and its too dark to put on makeup. The outlets in the lamps don't work, and there is no where to charge a phone near the bed that is accessible (maybe behind mattress) - but looking down behind the mattress, its filthy and dirty, indicating the area does not get regularly cleaned which is a concern when your head is sleeping very near the area. Lack of cleanliness aside, the free breakfast was a reason we booked the stay, but we came to find out the hours end at 9:30 which is not late enough for our family on a Saturday when we want to sleep in. I tried to take a biscuit and an egg pattie to my son who was still in the shower, and I was physically stopped by the food worker, who yelled and pushed me toward the front desk. I explained to the front desk, and she said I would not be allowed to take this food to the room. I asked why that was the case when someone had just received a food delivery to their room, and she said its a rule that makes no sense, but she can't change it. I also pointed out that the refrigerator and microwave in the room indicate that food is encouraged, and she said she could do nothing. Then she whispered to me to go ahead and go upstairs while the other food worker wasn't looking, but then the food worker came back around the corner and she changed her story. I asked to speak to the manager about the behavior of the food worker, and she said none was available. She asked for my room number which I gave to her, only to find out my key did not work once I got to the room. Which she obviously just had turned off because it worked 15 minutes prior. While at the front desk, we also witnessed the food worker physically removing a family with 3 small kids from the breakfast area because it was too late to have breakfast, when it was 9:29 by the time on my smart phone and the food was still on the counter, but she refused to let them eat. In the end, they too, had food delivered and ate it in their room. The ridiculous and abusive behavior of the food worker was so extreme, I felt compelled to give this feedback. We have stayed at Choice Hotels for years, and we have never been treated this way or felt so frustrated and disrespected as we did during this stay. We will be reconsidering our plans for the rest of the summer. We have 4 more weekend stays in various locations planned, and we like to use our Choice Rewards, however, this experience had definitely made...
Read moreTo begin with we reserved a suite with a Jacuzzi tub. Upon arrival, my wife went to use the toilet to urinate. When she flush the toilet it was backed up and began to overflow onto the bathroom floor. When we went down to the lobby desk to inform the staff of the situation, we were told that that was the only suite with a Jacuzzi tub. We tried to call Choice customer service to see if we could be moved to another property with the type of room we reserved (and there was one available), the person (Kai) that answered was not very knowledgeable and telling us things that were not correct. The girl at the lobby desk had to correct Kai on how things would have to happen. After realizing that we were running the risk of ending up stranded without a room if we left the situation in Kai's hands, we got off the phone with her and accepted another room that did not have a Jacuzzi tub. Aside from not getting the type of room we wanted, the rest of the stay was not very good at all.
Our suite had two televisions but only one remote. We were told at the desk that the one would work both tv's but after a couple days of walking back & forth from room to room to swap the one remote, I insisted at the desk I get another one.
There were no real towels available. Everyday (except Thursday) we had to bring our dirty towels down to the lobby to exchange them for clean towels. Rarely did they have all three types (towels, hand clothes and wash clothes). We had to accept what they had and make due. Not once did we have a real towel to use, ONLY POOL TOWELS.
Another major issue was that throughout the entire property, there was nearly always the odor of marijuana that was being used on the property. We witnessed people smoking outside only 25ft from the main entry in clear view of security cameras seen by lobby personnel. In the elevator and halls the smell of freshly smoked marijuana was always present. Even in our room, the smell of marijuana often was coming in our room through the exhaust fan vent that did not work.
Early one morning about 1am, in an attempt to escape our room and not risk our personnel safety by being outside the front entry, my wife and I went out to the pool area because it was enclosed by a fence. After about 10 mins, the hotel desk clerk comes out and told us that we could not be out there after pool hours. I mean seriously, we were not drinking, doing drugs, only getting some fresh air. Meanwhile, constantly there was all this other activity going on in the...
