CONS: When we first arrived the room had a very strong musty smell. I tried to take a shower & realized the shampoo container for the room was empty. Thankfully my dad had some he let me borrow. As soon as I got out of the shower my dad informed the front desk that there was no shampoo provided. About 5 minutes later, I’m standing in front of the bathroom & front door brushing my wet hair in front of the mirror, when someone opens the front door without knocking. It was a young male employee. We had a Do Not Disturb hanger on the outside of the doorknob. I was freshly out of the shower. Thankfully I was clothed, but there was a high likelihood that I could not have been since I just got out of the shower. He mutters an apology after seeing how startled we were that someone didn’t even knock before entering, & replaces the shampoo.
When we reported this to the front desk, we were further SHOCKED when, rather than an apology or an explanation that that’s against policy to ignore a Do Not Disturb sign & to not knock before entering, or that they would take measures to better train their staff to not walk in on patron’s private rooms without at LEAST knocking, to our further surprise, the woman at the front desk (maybe Angilee? Or something similar.) proceeded to ARGUE with my dad by saying that he said we would be gone in 30 minutes when he requested shampoo. (Why that mattered when the male employee came in only 5 mins after the request, idk.) My dad replied simply: “There’s no excuse.” To which the lady at the front desk walked away murmuring under her breath.
This was something that was unacceptable to begin with & could have easily been rectified. After my dad’s experience, I knew talking to the woman he spoke to was pointless. I walked up to the front desk & no one was there. After a little bit the lady in charge of breakfast saw me & offered to retrieve the lady who is supposed to be at the front desk. When she came out from the back room I recognized her as the same woman my dad had spoken with. I knew talking with her would be pointless so I simply requested to speak with the manager. The manager was not available, but the woman at the front desk retrieved the manager’s phone number with such disdain I am seriously shocked that she is in customer service. She was not customer service material at all. Patrons should not be made to feel like they are an inconvenience to whatever she’s doing in the back room.
PROS: On the upside, the breakfast at this location was the best part & the lady in charge of it was always on the ball & did a great job. Very kind & helpful. She deserves...
Read moreThe hotel was small but nice. The hallways were brightly lit to see easier. We had room 218. It was a double Queen room and was spacious. The bed, linens and pillows were comfortable. The pool was small but refreshing and cool for a humid evening. We had a door hanger card, where we requested towels or toiletries, since they don’t do room cleaning daily.|The breakfast was really good with all options. Eggs, sausage and bacon (the next day), toast, cereal, a waffle machine, pastries, yogurt, fruit, coffee and juices. I liked the setup. There were divided sections of food, so the line did not clog up.|There are several restaurants, including a Sonic, Beef O’Brady’s, American Charlie’s, a Mexican place, an ice cream place, and Cici’s down Richard Jackson Blvd. After traveling all day, we didn’t feel like going out. Prices to deliver pizza were off the chart. So I ordered from American Charlie’s, a local place down the street and went to pick it up. Friendly service and lots of food included for the price. We came to Panama City to see family at the beach. It was a 20 minute drive, as 98 has a lot of traffic, so allow time to reach your destination.|Amelia was very helpful at the front desk. So was the housekeeping staff. The hotel was clean and in a quieter place in spite of the busy road it sat on. |My only suggestion is to replace some of the furniture in the room. Its older and a little worn. The carpet was a bit damp, I think from the humidity. We did report a couple of minor problems in our room. They were not repaired while were there, but hopefully they will be. ( the toilet ran, and the door did not shut properly. Also one bedside lamp was not working even after plugging in.|All in all...
