One star is GENEROUS at best for this place, the only pleasant experience with any of their staff was when their property managers had to step in. First off, the location is great and the building is fine, I booked a cheap hotel so I won't whine about the quality. The AC worked and the room was clean. However our bathroom light was motion censored and went off WAY TOO QUICK to where we showered/peed in the dark or had to dance around to get the light back on. The tub drain was constantly backed up too. Also their towel situation is terrible, you have to be around when the towel truck gets in and they will only give you 2 no matter how many guests you have, CRAZY!! I asked for two bags for ice, and they said they could only give me one, talk about stingy? they were rude and dismissive to everyone no matter their reason for being in the lobby. When we got there early, we couldn't check in early which is understandable but when we asked to leave our bags they just kept them in the lobby, and did not have a separate room for that, what hotel doesn't?
Now for the worst part, we asked for late checkout and were told it was $50 for only an extra hour, so we declined. The next time I was in the lobby, the worker said actually I could have until 2pm for free since we were leaving on a Monday and they weren't fully booked that night, so on our last morning we left for the beach and came back around 12:30 so we could be out by 2. Upon return, we went to ask for towels to shower and she said "no you can't you guys don't have a room all your stuff is right there," and points to everything we brought thrown into trash bags in the lobby. I asked her why since she told me we could have late checkout and she said it was because we only had until 12 and didn't pay, the opposite of what I was told the day before! So now my friend and I are sandy, in bikinis, needing to shower and looking at our stuff carelessly thrown into trash bags in the lobby for everyone else to see. TALK ABOUT FEELING VIOLATED!? I asked her why she didn't call me, my number is on the reservation, if she thought we should have been checked out and weren't there, she said she didn't have time for that. Although I'm sure that phone call would have been much faster than the time it took to move all of our stuff. She would not let us check the room to make sure our stuff was all out or anything. While trying to repack our stuff, I was throwing out food in a trash can next to her, since they took EVERYTHING out of our room and it had been sitting out, she then decided she felt threatened and called the manager to come over. To my surprise (and relief) the manager approached me first and I explained that we had been granted late checkout, returned to gather our things to find out our stuff had been thrown into the lobby. He apologized, and while I talked to him the other manager brought my friend to double check our room. The two property managers were very kind, and let us return to the room to shower as well and brought us fresh towels. But it sounds like all of this went on without their knowing. I cannot believe a front desk employee could have the authority to move guests things without manager approval! I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated having dealt with that on our last day, what terrible service! Especially seeing 30+ empty rooms on our way back up to shower, it's not like they needed ours soon!
To everyone looking at this hotel- STAY AWAY!!!! And to the Wyndham Property group, I suggest you keep a close eye on this hotel and its employees! I was told renovation will happen soon, and I suggest with that change you hire new lobby personnel! All of the maintenance workers and cleaners I experienced were nice, the issue is your ladies...
Read moreThis has to be the absolute worst experience I've had with a hotel, if I could give a negative rating, I would.
My travel partner and I were on a business trip over the weekend (July 12 - 14), which we drove 6+ hours from Orlando to Panama City, and needless to say, we were ready for showers and relaxation before we had to get ready and be somewhere that evening.
Upon pulling in, the building looks like it's barely standing, the foundation is cracked, the paint is peeling, the front door didn't work - it's an automatic door, and it was stuck open and you could barely get through it with your bags. The front desk staff were less than friendly, not welcoming at all, neither of them smiled or even said hello. They basically just stared until guests walked up and spoke to them. They didn't make eye contact and mumbled the entire time. We were booked under someone else's name through my travel partner's business who wasn't with us, so when we gave the name, the girl basically barked that they didn't have that name, so we tried a different one, told not that one either...so we tried the person who made the reservation, and I was asked if it was me. We were told there would be a resort fee - which, this is not a resort and has basically no amenities, so I'm not sure what they were even charging a fee for, and it was different from the person who checked in after us - little fishy if you ask me.
After a lengthy process because we had to reach out to the person who booked the room to get their information, we finally got our keys and headed to our room. The elevator is old, so we opted for the stairs because we didn't trust it - they are covered in dirt, grime, and the water from the air conditioning units drips down all over. Walking to the room is quite the feat, as the ground is covered in water - from the AC units, and since no one cleans it up, there's an algae like substance that makes the ground rather slippery.
The rooms are old, with cracks, peeling paint, and leaks. They don't have pillowcases on the pillows, and the pillows are stained - ours were - I can't speak for other rooms, but I'm willing to bet it's the same, and the stains looked like bed bug markings.
There were no towels in the room, when we asked for pillowcases, we were told "We don't have pillowcases." When asking for towels, we were told by the front desk, "We can't help you right now."
I didn't feel safe in the room itself because there was no extra latch on the door, and the door itself looked like it was about to fall apart at any moment.
The bathtub looked like it was stained with blood, it was probably rust, but either way, you could tell it hadn't been cleaned...which isn't surprising because I don't think much actually is.
The building honestly looks like it should be condemned. We decided to leave and found another hotel. Upon stopping by the front desk to let them know we wouldn't be staying, we got in line, and the girl - while checking in another guest who was talking to her - interrupted, looked at us and said "Is there a problem?" When we said we wouldn't be staying, she didn't ask what was wrong or if she could help, she basically said, "Leave your key on the desk." Which makes me wonder how often this happens.
I don't recommend staying here, even though it's cheap, it's disgusting and not worth the...
Read moreREAD BEFORE BOOKING!!!!!I booked on booking.com but since I cancelled as soon as I seen the room in person it won’t allow me to leave a review. The photos of this place are very misleading and it looks nothing like it does online. I should’ve read these reviews before I ever booked. I don’t know where some of these people have stayed, but the reviews on booking are very misleading. I understand you “get what you pay for” but for $300 a night I expected quite a bit more. Upon arrival I noticed the building outside needed some work but I figured it would be okay, we are at the beach let’s have fun right? The parking lot is trashed but it had just rained so I let that slide also. I check in, the ladies at the front desk were very nice and all went well. We start unloading our luggage and I figured I would take the stairs since we were only on level 2 (save the elevator for other guest on higher levels) not realizing that level 2 was 3 floors up. But no bug deal, my bad I didn’t check first. As I’m walking to our room there is a terrible smell on the balcony of this place. It smells like garbage. That was my first turn off. I get to the room after walking past what seemed to be “working girls” and go inside and this room has not changed since the 70s. The beds were tiny, it smelled really old. There was mold in the shower. So at this point I’m already second guessing this place big time. But my family is with me and I don’t want to seem concerned to ruin their trip. So I go back down and get my wife and daughter and this time we decided to take the elevator. We get inside with all our luggage and there was another man in with us. We are crammed being such a small elevator. We press the button to go up and we didn’t move for about 30 second. So we press it again. Nothing. So we press the door open button, nothing. So by this point we are going on around 2 minutes (seemed like a lifetime) of being in this tiny elevator with 4 people and a ton of luggage. It’s very hot. My daughter starts panicking and my wife does the same. So I press the “help” button. Nothing happens. So I call the hotel, the phone line is busy (as usual). So I keep pressing the help button until it final buzzes and opens up. It was truly traumatizing for my daughter and my wife. So we get off the elevator and drag all of our luggage up 3 flights of stairs to the room. At this point I’m done. So I go downstairs and before I had another place to stay I canceled instantly. The woman at the desk was very friendly and had no issue refunding all but my first nights stay. She said I would need to contact booking. So I went back upstairs. Loaded everything up and found a “sleep inn” 2 miles down the road. It was the same price as the Beaumont and 1000 times nicer. Free breakfast, nice pool (on site, unlike the bay mint) and a giant clean room. It was the biggest blessing and ultimately saved our trip to the beach. So if you are looking for a cheaper, nice place to stay at the beach, check out the sleep inn. And there is public beach access right across from alvins island in between the origin and emerald beach resort. I’m still waiting on my first night refund, but found out that the hotel has to refund so I doubt I will ever see it. Especially since no one ever...
