I am truly not one to write negative reviews, but I feel as though potential customers should be aware of this circumstance. On April 18th, my boyfriend and I visited Mixto to celebrate an anniversary. While there, I ordered a steak and margarita. Upon leaving the establishment, I began to feel unwell. 3 hours after returning home, I threw up for the first time. I replenished with Pedialyte and went off to bed in the hopes that I would feel better in the morning. That was not the case. I spent April 19th throwing up all day - I had to call out of work and could not keep anything down. April 20th was spent similarly. Today, April 21st was the first day I have felt well enough to a. eat a full meal and b. call Mixto to let them know about the situation. This evening, I called to let them know that the steak I had eaten had made me extremely sick. The call was picked up by Jason and after I thoroughly explained the situation (and let them know that I was sure it was due to my meal at Mixto) I was met with an extremely rude response that lacked accountability or empathy. Jason told me that without a doctors note, my complaint would not be taken seriously nor would I receive a refund. I was also told that because it had happened on the 18th, too much time had passed. I will add here that no where in my call did I request a refund. I was calling with the intention of telling my experience and had hoped to (at some point in the call) discuss what Mixto could do to rectify the issue. I never made it that far and had only explained the food poisoning / my health / and the timeline. Instead, I was met with a very, very rude response that belittled my experience and was extremely condesenting. As a registered nurse, I do not need to "prove" that I experienced food poisoning to be believed. Even if I was not a nurse, receiving a doctors note is not a customary demand for a customer that experienced a poorly cooked meal and spent hard earned money to celebrate an anniversary. It should not be on the customer to prove that they ate spoiled food at your establishment. Additionally, as someone that was bed and bathroom ridden for TWO days due to food poisoning at this institution, it would have been impossible for me to have made it to the doctor for an unnecessary note. I know the symptoms of food poisoning because I am trained to. I also was not well enough until today to let them know. All in all, this has been extremely disappointing. I have not received an apology or an acknowledgement that this happened - only gaslighting and deflecting responses. I made the error to celebrate my anniversary at Mixto and will not return. I have never experienced service like this. EVER. I do not recommend this restaurant by any means. I advise that you all have a staff conversation about customer service and take a look at how you cook, prepare, and serve your steak.

  • EDIT due to the response from the restaurant: Mixto staff, you have completely lied in your response to me. First, I ate my *entire steak. The only thing I did not eat in it's entirety were the vegetables. Second, my boyfriend had the sea bass and did not eat my food/try any of it. I will be visiting you all in person so that you can show me this security tape, as your response is a clear lie. How disappointing. You have had two times now to apologize and take accountability for your institutions poor sanitation / hygiene. If I could provide a negative...

Update: sadly I do not have one I'm beginning to see the people really don't care of this restaurant since nobody took the time to review what I wrote and to respond to it. I can't say that I go back to the establishment anytime in the near future, would you find to be very sad considering all the good times I had there in the past.

have been a patron of Mixto since 2003 maybe longer. The menu back then was authentic and the food and flavors were amazing! O we the years the menu and staff have changed and not to my liking. I recently had one of my favorite dishes. The roast pork was dry, flavorless, the rice was dry and flavorless, and the black beans were bland and watery. The only thing worse than the food this time was the server. He obviously did not want to be there. Food took forever to come out and was barely warm when I got it. He brought us water and forgot to bring us bread. I asked for the bread and it still came out after our appetizers did. Speaking of which, the filling was very good but the shell was not so much. The portions shrank considerably and this was before COVID and the quality and preparations became frilly as they started to garnish the food with orchids

I don't want a flower on my plate i came here for good stick to your ribs cuisine that tasted authentic and was well priced with generous portions.

I struggled a bit as to whether or not I would writes this review because I did not want to say anything bad after all I've been coming here for half my life and am.gratefuk for the delicious meals and wonderful times I've had here .however After this last visit I can't imagine I'll be going back again and if no one complains there is no way they have an opportunity to correct the problems they may or may not know exist.

So here's is a chance to bring back the menu from back then, improve the quality I'm the kitchen, and retrain the deficient staff members.

20 years ago, the hours were longer, the food was better, and the place was packed. Everyone I took there raved about it now, my guest didn't even eat what was served and I felt made a bad decision to come there.

This place was amazing and can be brought back to how it was a lil less frill and a little more love when making the food will go a...

This restaurant steals from its customers, risks your life by disregarding allergies, always gets your order wrong, and has terrible customer service. Once, they charged me for another customer's food and didn't issue me an immediate refund. Another time, they added a credit card fee to our bill even though we paid in cash. Because it is one of the few Latino restaurants in CC, I continued to order from there but I'm not exaggerating when I tell you they have gotten EVERY SINGLE ORDER WRONG. Every time I order delivery from them, there's a missing item and the only way to retrieve the item is to go to their store even though I already paid a delivery fee. When I order a smoothie, they make a point of asking whether you want it with milk or water, and even though I specify water (because of an allergy) they still make it with milk. One time, I paid for a smoothie to be delivered and, because it was made with dairy instead of water, I walked to the store and asked them to remake it and they made another one exactly the same with milk again. That is how incompetent they are. It got so bad that I had to call each time I ordered to remind them to make it with water and they still get it wrong. Every time I complain, I either provide a photo or bring in the item that was incorrect. However, they continue to refuse to re-deliver missing items so if you're not willing to drive to the store after paying a delivery fee, you are essentially giving them free money. They operate as if they are a charity and your bill is a donation, not a transaction. Lastly, a server once rolled her eyes when my friend asked for an extra napkin. Given the pattern of missing items and refusing to redeliver, I asked to speak to the owner. I was promised by both general managers that she would call for us to discuss a refund. Do you think she ever called? No. Because the restaurant sustains itself on taking your money and not...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I came to Mixto for the vibes, but I stayed for the flavor—and left already planning my next visit. From the moment you walk in, the energy is vibrant and inviting. The Latin music pulsing in the background, the aroma of fresh spices in the air, and the friendly staff set the tone immediately. Mixto nails that balance between upscale and comfortable. This place is what happens when Miami nightlife meets Old San Juan charm—right in the middle of Philly. Now let’s talk about the food. I started with the empanadas, and let me just say: crispy, golden, and filled with seasoned meat that made me consider ordering a second round before I was even halfway done. But I behaved. Kind of. The Arroz con Pollo was a plate of pure joy—juicy, well-marinated chicken nestled in saffron rice, with that perfect bite of smoky depth that tastes like it’s been passed down from generations of abuelas. I also had the Ropa Vieja, and it didn’t just melt in my mouth—it gave me a hug and whispered, “You needed this.” The shredded beef was rich, tender, and wrapped in a savory tomato-based sauce that soaked into the plantains and rice like a love letter to my taste buds. Drinks? Let’s go. The mojito was dangerously smooth, with fresh mint and just enough lime to wake you up and make you feel fancy at the same time. And the presentation? Let’s just say my camera ate first. I have to give props to the plating too. Every dish came out looking like a Food Network finalist made it. They don’t just feed you—they flex a little. The service was top-tier. Attentive but not pushy. They gave great recommendations, checked in just enough, and made the whole experience feel personal. Whether you’re on a date night, celebrating a birthday, or just treating yourself because it’s Tuesday and you deserve it—Mixto is a must. 🔥 Pro tip: Come hungry, bring your camera, and don’t sleep on the tres leches cake.

We went out for a girls night on a Saturday and were excited about trying someplace different. I cannot say that I would want to go back again. The concept was solid but the execution left much to be desired. Check in – We had reservations and were greeted by a friendly front end team and were immediately seated. Server – Patient with allowing us to decide what to order. I do not know if there were any specials that night or not as none were mentioned. The place was quite crowded and the server seemed a bit overwhelmed (dropped a few items while we were there). Pisco Sour – These were good. Although I ordered a regular and my friend ordered the passion fruit, we both ended up with passion fruit. As the server looked to be a bit overwhelmed I didn’t fuss about it and did not ask for a replacement. Chicharrones de Cerdo – Fatty. Very fatty. With a description of crunchy pork bits these missed the mark. They were so fatty in fact that some could not be chewed, and we didn’t finish them. Guacamole – Pretty standard guacamole. We enjoyed it. The plantain chips were crisp Ropa Vieja and Pernil Rostisado – This is where things went very wrong. There was no depth of flavor. In fact, the only flavor was salt. It was so salty that we couldn’t eat it. It was as if someone poured salt over it after cooking, forgot they salted it and added more. No amount of mixing or eating with the sides could correct that. We both ended up taking the food home with the hope of being able to fix it so that it could be eating another day. Bread – The bread came with the dinner and we tried to use it to play against the saltiness (as the bread was slightly sweet tasting) but even that couldn’t save the main dishes. We did not try dessert as we were under a time constraint. I do not know if it was the dishes we selected or just an off night, but I won’t be back again to find out.

I desperately want to give a 5 star, but Mixto falls short. It's a very solid restaurant overall, but just shy of top notch quality. The food is generally quite good, with a few obvious shortcomings that can easily be rectified. For example, the Mixto Plato, a very good choice where you can try a lot of different appetizers (good value for the price and portion size), the empanadas, shrimp ceviche, and meat in it are excellent, but the arepas and some other fried carbs were a little bland, which can be rectified easily if they had some kind of a sauce for dipping. As i was eating the arepas, that's all I could think of: this thing needs something to be dipped in! Same thing for the Bandeja Paisa: good meat, needs sauce for the carbs. Loved the table bread, it has a faint pork smell (maybe just by virtue of being near the kitchen, it absorbed some of the smell? I'm not sure), which i actually liked. By the way they do an excellent poached egg, wouldn't lose to any good French restaurant. The drinks were on the sweeter side, which was fine by me but if you prefer your drinks on the dry side, you might want to specify that. The ambiance was very nice, has 2 floors, with bars on each floor. Service was reasonably good, food came out reasonably fast on a busy Friday night. I had a little weird vibe from our waitress, she was giving off some passive aggressive atmosphere, i almost felt like she was annoyed at me for whatever reason, I hope it was just an unfounded suspicion. But the rest of the restaurant staff were very good and friendly.
