My group came on recommendation from a written publication I check every now and then. The menu swaps around daily, including the dessert menu (which doesn't change as frequently but still does change) making writing a review difficult as your experience may be completely different tomorrow!
I also have to admit, I'm going to be biased heavily on a lot of my notes here. I have spent 5 days indulging in some of the best food of my life, and my pallette fatigue is off the chain with a bunch of new flavors and textures.
I sampled a bunch of my friends dishes, but my main loadout going into this dinner was the Charcuterie Board, the Pork Shoulder, and a side of Blueberry cornbread with the Butterscotch cream pie to finish out dinner.
Charcuterie board was a smash pick, everything on it was to die for, especially the paté and the pastrami. I really really liked it.
A warning: You get a full order of sourdough and butter with your meal. It is delicious, but super filling and you just want to keep eating it.
The Pork shoulder was cooked perfectly, but I don't think there was anything particularly exciting about it. The cracklins were done well, and I think the oats served with it stole the show. They were savory and salty and just outright delicious.
Blueberry cornbread was done exactly how I like it, but it really belongs on the dessert menu. It tastes like cobbler and it's great.
I was not impressed by my butterscotch dessert in all honestly. The crust wasn't doing anything for me, the cream wasn't nearly sweet enough, but the butterscotch drizzle was to die for. I honestly feel like the dish would be better if this was infused into the cream and if they replaced the crust with a graham cracker and molasses base.
I was riding between a 4 and a 5 star here, but our waitress, Anola, firmly locked us into the 5 star region. She was friendly, accomadating, helpful, and nailed our pacing perfectly for dinner. One of the best service staff members I've had the privilege of interacting with, and really put in a lot of work to make sure my large group's needs were met. Absolute bravo to her!
I will recommend this to my friends, and I would come back to try again. I think next time I need to adventure into some of the more unique items to have my...
Read more8/25/2024 Well, we couldn't resist another visit before we left. My husband's birthday is today so this was the perfect ending to a beautiful trip. He had lobster stuffed with scallops and topped with crumbles, while I opted for the ribeye. It was all phenomenal! Jesse was a wonderful server, had a great smile and sense of humor. He really made the night just right.
Needless to say - we are HUGE fans and will recommend Fore to anyone we talk with who will be visiting Portland.
8/22/2024 Add us to the long list of foodies who fell for this place! It lived up to and surpassed our expectations. My husband, a chef, is extremely picky and this was his birthday dinner. (No pressure!)
BUT - everything was perfect! From the moment we sat at the bar and met Doug, who doubled his duty taking care of us and the bar patrons. He was so patient and took his time with us. We had the heirloom tomato, balsamic, gruyere cheese popover - fabulous! In addition (not knowing the "small plates" were so generous) we tried the scallops which were also covered in mashed potatoes and cheese. SOOOO good!
For dinner, I had the crab stuffed haddock with white sweet potatoes. My husband stole those potatoes after I made the mistake of sharing one with him! Lol. Ok, it was his birthday so that's fine. My fish was cooked to perfection and almost took much for me to eat....almost! Husband had the turnspit pork belly with random beans and shishito peppers. He was in heaven with all of his food. It was cooked to perfection.
For dessert he had the Blueberry Buckle and loved every bite. Me - dessert? Who could eat another bite after all that food?! Lol. My mouth was mad at me but my stomach thanked me on the long walk back to the hotel.
It was a fantastic evening, a huge success and we are but two more big fans of Fore...

This is hands-down one of our favorite places to dine in town! Reservations are a must, and depending on the season, you may need to book several months in advance, but it’s easily done online. Beloved by locals, business professionals, and visitors alike, this spot has earned its reputation.
The vibe is vintage and rustic, showcasing original wood and brick architecture, an open kitchen, and a glowing wood-burning stove that sets the tone. The menu is ever-changing, with a thoughtful farm-to-table approach and occasional nightly specials.
We were celebrating a birthday this evening and delighted to find so many tempting options. Complimentary fresh bread kicked things off, followed by the standout ceviche, beautifully presented in seashells atop a bed of sea salt. Adorable and delicious! The organic greens salad was much larger than expected, crisp and full of bright flavor, with sourdough crostinis adding a playful and satisfying crunch.
For our mains, we were surprised and delighted when the slow-cooked pork shoulder with orzo mac & cheese arrived in a mini cast-iron skillet, comfort food with flair. But the star of the evening was the beef stroganoff and potato pierogi combo. Unexpected and absolutely brilliant! The char on the pierogi paired perfectly with the rich stroganoff and the pop of flavor from sweet peas had me craving more. We finished with our all-time favorite, crème brûlée, silky, rich, and perfectly torched.
