Attractive, nicely located, with a very good breakfast. We understand things happen in the course of running a business. But if you’re paying a decent amount for accommodations, it’s reasonable to expect those accommodations be provided. If circumstances make that impossible, it’s also reasonable to expect some sort of gesture to make it up to the customer. The air conditioning was broken on the second floor. We had the fan on, but it still got up to around 80. We alerted the staff and owner at 4:30 but the room didn’t begin to cool until sometime around 1:00 AM. The owner offered a pro forma apology via text when we inquired again, but didn’t express any further concern, didn’t respond to our request for an additional fan, didn’t check in to see how uncomfortable we were, didn’t apologize the next morning, didn’t mention it, and didn’t offer any conciliatory gesture (and by that I’m not even talking about any sort of partial rebate or anything—he could have simply offered a sincere apology and offered some extra chocolates or something. Even little stuff goes a long way toward smoothing ruffled feathers). Plus, it seems odd the staff didn’t notice it was warm when the room was being made up earlier and they were leaving hair on the pillowcase, or putting water in the sporadically functional...

Edit: I have to change from 5 to 2 stars based on unforseeable situation. Ferries stopped running due to water levels flooding the docks. Since I have a car on the island, I am unable to leave. When hotel relayed this info, everyone was saying no worries. So then I was told the ferry (no cars allowed) was running so we'd have to vacate our room for new guests and make a new reservation. I wasn't budgeted for this. An hour later, new guests aren't coming anymore so I asked if hotel would do a half rate? I was refused. I effectively have nowhere to stay so I'm going to sleep in my car. This on top of fact I have to hire a babysitter since I can't make it home to my kids. I guess people are nice when it pays to be nice, pun intended. No more Anchor Inn for us. I'll stay at...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay the weekend of August 16. Our room had a covered balcony that faced Catawba Ave, which made for great people watching! They paired the couple that travelled with us in the room next door, which was perfect. The rooms are all quiet, clean and have their own bathrooms. The bed and furnishings were all high quality. The staff and service are all top notch. I can’t say anything negative about this place. The owner greeted me and even remembered me from last year (hopefully for good reasons lol). The location of this property is perfect. Walkable to downtown area, restaurants bars and hardware store, but far enough off the main strip to be quieter. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. Made to order omelettes, self serve continental, and 2 specials that change daily. Fantastic place. Can’t say how much we enjoy it. Anytime we travel to PIB we will be...
