HORRIBLE SERVICE and ATMOSPHERE
On the last day of our vacation, we planned on having breakfast with our family at The Forge. At 10 AM, we got in line for a table. While we waited for about 30 minutes to be seated, we realized that there was no A/C or even any fans available. Soaked in sweat, our combined party of 6 took seats.
Before we placed our order, at roughly 10:30 AM on a FRIDAY morning, we let the waitress know that we would be splitting the check. At 12:05, (yes, 90 minutes or so later), we received some of our food. One order was wrong, and another was missing completely... It was at this point that I was offered my first and only refill of the Coke I had ordered (almost 2 hours after the first)...
When we finally receive the remaining 2 meals about 20 minutes later, we decided to talk to the manager. The manager removed one of the meals from the bill. Instead of being apologetic and cordial, this punk of a manager sends out the bill with the waitress, with a mandatory 18% gratuity added to it. The policy is that an 18% gratuity will be added to checks for parties of 6 or more, but the check was split, which made it a party of 2 and a party of 4. We argued with him about it, and he told us that it was company policy that we had to pay it, even though the service was TERRIBLE and the ATMOSPHERE was akin to a sweat shop using child labor for profits...
I will never return to that restaurant, and you should avoid it. I've received better service in the ghetto. There are many other establishments in Put-in-Bay that are superior to this debacle of...
Read moreWe had two amazing meals last week at The Forge. I would recommend a trip to Put-In-Bay just to eat at The Forge! Our dinner Thursday night began with the Short Rib Poutine & Drunken Mussels appetizers. I don’t know which one we liked better. They were both fabulous! For dinner I had the salmon, my husband had the The Atlantic Crepe & our friend had the Veg Pasta with shrimp. Everything was fantastic! We loved our dinner so much we returned for breakfast the next morning. We had The Packed Bowl, the MGB Benedict, The Fancy Pants Crepe & a lemon curd & raspberry dessert crepe. Again, mouth watering wonderful! A shout out to co-owner Marc who is gracious, friendly, professional & thankful to his patrons. Our servers Kelli & Megan were attentive to our every need with friendly smiles & perfect service. They never for a moment revealed what I’m sure has been an exhausting season with servers having to take on double & triple duty to keep the business fires burning. Go to The Forge! You will not be...
Read moreWent for breakfast this morning. Ordered for 2. Mimosas were heavy (not great for breakfast), my meal came out lukewarm (Eggs Benedict) while my husband's (Burger w/egg) was hot, no seasoning in sight on the food, service was painfully slow, server seemed indifferent, and it was so loud we had to yell to speak. It was not the experience we expected. An hour+ for service for 2? No, thanks. We'll not be returning.
Edit: While The Forge staff took time to reply, the staunch attitude still leaves much to be desired. Yes, we didn't intend to send our meals back and wait again. Limited touch backs makes guest feel dismissed. Why wait for the same issue to occur twice? When we were asked how the meal was I said "well, I guess it's okay" and there wasn't much concern feom our server. Looks like the attitude in service comes from the top.
We had a comparable meal elsewhere a few blocks away, similar crowd, at a fraction of the time with better quality and service. Just take the feedback to do better where you can....
