Location is great if you are going to the Mayo Clinic or St Mary's.
If you are just looking for a quiet place to relax and have a vacation, this probably isnt it. It can be busy and noisy and a lot of traffic going to and from the hospital, ambulances and the helicopter. But for convenience as a Mayo patient this location is tough to beat.
There is a large nice work out area , a pool and hot tub. The interior courtyard has fire pits, grills and seating areas and is protected from the street and private.
There is a shuttle that provides rides to the clinic or hospital or you can walk across the street to St Mary's and catch a Mayo patient shuttle as well.
The rooms on the even side are bigger than normal rooms which is nice, but the bathrooms are a bit tight on space and if you use a walker or have mobility issues the regular bathrooms in the regular rooms could be difficult. You cant get a walker in there and also open the shower door at the same time.
Parking is also an issue and fills up fast. Even if you pay for parking, it doesn't mean you will find a spot. They have set aside and reserved several spaces now for places like Starbucks and other things that has taken away even more spaces for guests. Since you will be charged for parking unless you tell them no when you check in, I suggest waiting until you actually find a spot and realize you will park in the ramp overnight before you go and get the parking card. You can also park outside if space allows or down the street etc. We have even parked in the Mayo clinic ramp and used our parking card.
The hotel is clean. They do an excellent job keeping things tidy and clean. There is free laundry wash and dry for guests which is nice.
Its helpful to have a translator app on your phone for interacting with housekeeping if you dont know Spanish. They are great, super nice, but many speak only a little English.
We have noticed the rates going up sadly and making this a less affordable option and they do not seem to have an actual Mayo Clinic rate anymore that reflects a discount. Instead its higher than the reg rate but includes breakfast etc. So just be aware that there have been changes to what the " Mayo" rate is. We found that pretty confusing.
With staffing changes, we have found we have recently gotten a lot of conflicting and misinformation and it has caused some mix ups and billing errors , but that's bound to happen with staff turn over and so many guests.
Everyone is very nice and willing to help sort out any issue you have.
They have also put microwaves in the rooms which they did not have before which is great.
Of course if you want a full sized fridge or a reg kitchen , the Staybridge on the other side of the lobby has that and is ideal for longer more extended stays.
Both sides allow pets, so if you are sensitive to animals, just be aware there could be pets on either side . You can ask for a pet free room , but I dont know if they have such things. I know we have pet allergies and have never had a problem with any of the rooms we have stayed in on either side of the hotel.
Overall this is a good place to stay in Rochester and we...
Read moreThe hotel itself was very clean and nice, and the distance to the Mayo was wonderful. The complimentary shuttle service to the hospital was extremely convenient. We were there for a 2nd opinion for my 11 yr old daughter. We were stressed to the max and about a 17hr car ride from home. Which is why I am leaving the rest of this review, the service was not great.
We were told upon check in that we had the option to dine at the Even restaurant and pay for breakfast or venture across the shared lobby to the Staybridge to enjoy the complimentary buffet. When I booked it said complimentary breakfast so we assumed that was what it was. We were stopped by a woman named "Miss Sharon" who yelled and scolded, treated my family of 4 as if we were trying to steal breakfast. (2 adults, including myself, and 2 young daughters-11 and 8). We told her we were told we should come over to the Staybridge side for breakfast. Her voice was raised as if she was trying to scold and embarrass us in front of the other guests. My husband told her he wanted a manager. We spoke to Milton at the front desk. Idk if he was the manager, but he was very nice. He was able to diffuse the situation, however not only was Sharon not advised that we were in fact allowed to be over there, she wasn't spoken to for carrying on and loudly talking about my family as if we were thieves at the desk after we walked away, she was incredibly unprofessional. Milton explained to us that we should have gotten vouchers to bring to the buffet or to use at the Even's restaurant. Why Sharon didn't ask for these instead of trying to be the breakfast police is something I don't know. We are going to be returning to the Mayo and sadly, we will not be choosing the Even or Staybridge specifically because we do not wish to have a run in with her again. I will not put myself in that position, or my husband and kids.
Being in Rochester MN to be seen at the Mayo Clinic wasn't a fun Vacation, it was stressful and exhausting. The last thing we wanted was to be yelled at by a glorified lunch monitor in a power trip. Sorry, that's harsh, but no one goes to a hospital for fun, especiallyfor a child. We found out the laundry that was advertised was in the Staybridge side. And that was a huge perk for me and I did not use it for fear of being yelled at an embarrassed again.
Beautiful rooms, but if the shared lobby Includes options for one or both hotels, it should be clearly stated in their website and their staff should be properly educated in both how to interact with guests and their standard operating procedures. Very...
