Upgrade upon arrival to King Whirlpool room was an unexpected surprise! Check in was seamless and quick, agent friendly. Gave accurate parking ramp instructions since it's not real intuitive how to get in and out. Property was very neat, clean, nice decor. Not cluttered, or old fashioned. Loved the landscaping features outside even though there is no "green space" the brick paved areas and planters gave a nice outside feel. Room was clean, spacious. appreciated ability to adjust room temperature easily. Bed - much too soft and hard to get in and out. The edge of mattress sunk deeply when i sat which made me feel like i could fall off. For someone with some mobility issues, the bed was too high and hard to move on. Since this was a designated accessible room, i'd suggest lowering the bed a bit (no one in a wheelchair easily get in or out of bed) and replacing mattress with something more firm and stable. Even my very able-bodied husband said the mattress was hard to move on. Saints on 2nd - Nice room, tables placed sensibly - not too crowded or hard to walk through. Waitress was great - knew her stuff. However she was very soft spoken and we had a hard time understanding her in with the noise of supper crowd. She did provide EXCELLENT service however. Appetizer - beef potato skins. Good but potato had a weird texture. Beef was too salty, but tender. Less cheese. Entrees: Fettuccine. The shrimp were good, but too few. The pasta was oily and bland. Portion was good. Bread stick very good. Would not recommend this entree. Salmon on Cilantro Lime Rice (GF) - Salmon was cooked nicely, not dried out, but not raw in the middle. Good flavor. Rice was good, but a bit bland. Asparagus nicely done, but tough on the ends. Would recommend this entree if GF was required. Suggest serving w/lemon and/or lime wedges to add flavor to the rice. Dessert - Cheesecake - very good. Ice cream w/chocolate sauce on the side, good. Breakfast - included in room rate. We were not given the breakfast coupon at check in, so had to get it at the desk prior to eating. Oatmeal w/nuts, dried fruit. (only GF and Egg Free item on menu) Large bowl. Oatmeal, ok. I had to ask for Cream and brown sugar. Better if steel cut oats were part of oatmeal mix. The texture was too soft. Soy latte - very good. Egg Platter - Eggs ok. Potatoes ok but tasted like a frozen food product. Bacon - excellent. Strawberry Banana smoothie great. Overall, we felt the breakfast was good...
Read moreUpdate: Was told by corporate customer service that what we were told by employees was incorrect but we were at actually the ones at fault because as long time customers we should have known not to believe what we were told by employees and regardless of what you are told by employees corporate policy trumps everything so it was our fault for being long time customers and not knowing corporate policy. Was also told we'd be contacted by corporate and never were, had to call ourselves. We were also assured the GM of the property would call us and they never bothered to.
Was lied to by 2 different employees. Also Lisa at the front desk is incredibly rude. Called to reserve a room with points. Was told they could not do it there but they could reserve it under a credit card and we could call central reservations and they would switch it to points. Called central reservations, first person said the room was not available with points but put us through to a supervisor. The supervisor was helpful and called Courtyard Rochester Mayo and then told us she could book the room with points but we needed to buy a few more points but could do that and call back. Called back and spoke to a new supervisor who said we couldn't book this room with points. We told her the original supervisor spoke to Nicole at Courtyard Rochester Mayo so she called the property to speak with Nicole, she got back on the line and said that Lisa at the front desk said no Nicole works there and there is nothing they could do to help and we were just out of luck and wouldn't be refunded the money we were told to spend to get more points. I got off the phone and called the Courtyard Rochester Mayo and Lisa answered. I asked to speak to Nicole. Lisa told me Nicole was not at the front desk but she could take a message. Meaning Lisa lied and Nicole does indeed work there. Lisa was extremely rude and then hung up on me. At this point the first person we spoke to that said we could book with points lied to us and Lisa lied to other Marriott employees. After Lisa's hostility and all the lies we will never stay here and will be avoiding Marriotts...
Read moreHonestly I feel very conflicted about my stay here--- I'm actually still here at the moment. The lobby, lower level staff, and rooms have all been great.
My only issue is that maintenance just showed up and applied no slip chemicals onto my tub. I'm working out of the hotel today and now my entire room smells like these chemicals. I've opened a window to help but who knows how long the smell will last and what hotel manager would authorize maintenance of this kind while the rooms are occupied???
I worked in the hotel business for quite a while and the thought of treating rooms while guests are actually in it would be nonsense. Once at a 800 room hotel we were sold out and didn't rent a 'broken' room because the toilet paper holder was broken.
I called the front desk to change rooms and they mentioned the entire hotel is undergoing treatment including rooms with patients recovering from surgery. Being across the street from the Mayo Clinic and St Marys hospital, why introduce more chemicals into the air for patents recovering from surgery. Why bother them with a random maintenance person coming in and out of the room? In fact, why bother them at all?
Anti slip liquids can be irritants.... god help anyone with a respiratory problem.
What else is going to suddenly happen during my stay here?
Bottom line is the Hotel Management sacrificed the comfort of its own guests, intruded into their rooms, and knowingly exposed them to vapors of a product without their consent, and possibly even put them in danger to save money (and have the project completed quickly). Really a shameful moment for the hospitality industry, brand, and this hotel....
Next time I visit Mayo Rochester --- Ill be staying elsewhere. If you stay here,...
