We've been staying here during our regular trips to Mayo for over 8 years. Likely 50+ times. It was budget friendly and always clean. Apparently the property was sold ~2 years ago. It has been in steady decline ever since. Note: sentences with "pic" at the end reference attached pictures. Our first room's AC was nonfunctional. The manager tried to convince me otherwise. I've been doing commercial HVAC for 30 years; no, it was not working. The shower had mold in the crevices, pics. The hallway AC's coil was iced because the air inlet was plugged with debris hindering airflow, pics. There was a trash can placed below on the floor, just outside the elevator, it to catch the melt water and just waiting to cause a trip and fall along with the accompanying lawsuit. The elevator door has had an ever increasing amount of graffiti scratched into it, pic. If you aren't familiar with the term, look up the "broken window theory". Our 2nd room was simply disgusting. There was a stain running down the bed skirt, pic. Guess what it appears to be? This stain was on the side of the bed that was facing the door and clearly visible when walking into the room. The desk chair was filthy and unusable, pic. The desk edges were chewed up from wear, pic. When I went to move the phone to make room on the bedside table, there was no cord. Just a phone. The walls over the bed had smoke streaks from some dunce burning candles. We stayed the night, tucking the bodily fluid stained skirt up under the mattress. The next morning, I pulled breakfast together and was unable to find a chair in the dining area that was not filthy and stained, pic. I figured I'd sit on the upholstered bench by the elevator. Nope, stained and disgusting. We moved to a hotel called "Sleep Inn" that day and won't be back to this dump. The new place was clean and friendly. We are in our mid 60s, as are most of our friends. Over the years an ever-increasing number of them have been making trips to Mayo. Guess where we've suggested they stay in the past and guess what we'll tell them now? On the way out of the hotel for the last time, one of the managers that had fiercely defended the hotel the day before, said she was sorry we hadn't found the hotel to our liking. I asked her if she would sit on those filthy chairs in the dining area. She didn't even bother to glance over at them before...
Read moreBEWARE!! I stayed here while my wife had major surgery at Mayo. The reviews seemed fine. To summarize, on the third night (of a week long reservation) I returned from Mayo to find that hotel staff had touched and removed all of my personal belongings, took them out of the room, and placed them behind the front desk. I was told their system showed me as a one night stay and that they attempted to contact me for clarification, but since I wasn’t able to be reached they removed my items. I showed them my phone (which showed no calls from the hotel as well as my reservation # showing I had a 7 night reservation. The manager refused to come in and address the issue that evening. They did provide me with another room and gave me an excuse of an audit that messed up all of the reservations. All of my cold items were left out all day so they were ruined. I think the grossest thing is that they had to touch all of my personal items to bag them up because obviously i had everything spread out in the room as I was set to stay for a week. Someone would have had to grab my underwear from a drawer and grab my toothbrush to put it into a bag. Those are just quick examples but imagine if someone did that to your items!
The next day I again asked to speak to the manager. I was told he wasn’t available. The front desk manager then blamed ME for the mistake. I He said I should’ve made a longer reservation than one day. I went to show him my reservation email and he blew it off and said he didn’t care. never have had anything like this ever happen to me. I would caution all of who think “it can never happen to me” …. are you willing to take that chance with this hotel? There are so many other hotels near Mayo Clinic I would NEVER Recommend anyone staying here. If you have a loved one who is undergoing a procedure at Mayo the last thing you need is a hotel who touches your personal items, removes your items from your room, and then refuses to...
Read moreHotel is clean and modern they have safe deposit boxes available behind the front desk and very strong room safes with a personal key. The breakfast area is too small people kind of climbing over each other. There wasn't a good hand-hold (grab rail) in the shower tub and corporate Windham hotels should look at this because this is the town of the Mayo Clinic and many people who come here are elderly and they need to have a good hand-hold in the showers for all rooms. There was plenty of hot water although the pressure wasn't too high.
They have automatic entry/exit doors which work really well makes it easy to go in and out and they have a nice computer in the lobby unfortunately it's an apple which makes it a little tricky for those of us who use IBM compatible windows but it is workable. parking is very good and hotel is close to a very very good collection stores and shops and restaurants. I have stayed at many locations in Rochester and this general area is a very good place to stay.
The desk in the room is small but it is a MICROtel. There was an ironing board in the clothes closet which made it almost impossible to hang clothing in there. At my request they took it out. The window opens to allow fresh air. There is no wall mounted thermostat for the heater instead a knob on the heater it was very hard for me to get it to hold a decent temperature it was either too hot or too cold. The heater was modern but a thermostat on the wall would be a much better control
The shuttle that goes to the MSP airport stops here (on demand) and of course the Mayo Clinic shuttle stops here
Breakfast includes hard boiled eggs and yogurt and coffee and make it yourself waffles.
They have a good laundromat with two modern front loading washers and two front loading dryers. Walls...
