Ok, so this hotel wasn't absolutely horrific but I'll admit it's not great. Did it serve its purpose and allow us an adequate place to sleep and shower for the night? Yes. Was it worth the $290 I paid for the night (even though they gave me a sheet to sign saying the average daily rate was $171/night)? Absolutely not. Even for $171/night, this place is pushing it with the value.
Good things: lobby had this old, antique-look, but was pretty elegant. Room was well-sized and bathroom looked clean. There's a fridge and microwave which is really nice. Staff were polite
Things that everyone should arguably be aware of: Hallways smell of incense. Fine to me, but unusual and just want everyone to know As others have said, this place IS undergoing renovations. The front looked pretty shabby, and the hallways and rooms had rough paint on the walls and chipped edges of walls and doors. Furniture looked old and worn, and the door piece for the room key was completely scratched up While bathroom was clean, again there's chipped bits and pieces of door and wall and hanging under the mirror. Shower walls had a pretty marble look though Shower was a bit small; no wall, just overly long curtain. Being 5'3" and 125 lbs and touching the edges and curtain constantly when I showered, it can arguably be very crowded for many people. Bathroom overall was small Doors don't fit well into frames; you'll have to really push/pull/bang the doors to get close and open them Balcony was just a small, unfinished spot enough for maybe 4 people to stand side by side gazing out. No furniture and not really room for anything else I didn't realize they still made televisions with such poor video quality as I saw in that room lolol. Again, not necessarily "bad" but just so people are aware in case that's important to them Interesting safety tips written on the sleeve holding the room keys and the room keys themselves... looks generic but it sets a vibe lol The AC has this loud intermittent rattling sound, kind of weird and distracting at night when trying to sleep Patrons of the hotel park for free, but it's not super clearly labeled on the signs and it APPEARS you have to pay. Kind of shifty, since it just shows a QR code for you to pay online through (so you don't actually discuss payment with anyone, you could just be processing payments to who knows where and of course I doubt anyone would question the money being sent their way). The hotel's website in general doesn't display much info and I don't remember the employee explaining much when I checked in Furniture is all very worn and at least one of the stands were a bit sticky; from the finish or something? Found an ibuprofen pill in the fridge handle indent LOL. Which made me notice too how worn and a little dirty it overall was All the above just made me decide not to bother checking out the breakfast they had
Overall, I wouldn't stay here again. Recent reviews saying they loved the property, I wonder if they had a renovated room, and I just had one of the unrenovated ones. This place gets the job done for a night's stay and is ideally located, but DEFINITELY not worth the price I paid. I like hotels that are a bit more than what I experienced here, so I'll willingly pay this amount (or in several cases even less) for better accomodations next time I...
Read moreFirst off, I've stayed here several times. Most without (much) issue. It's a great location in regards to downtown, the beaches and is usually reasonably priced. I stay here with friends and we are able to get connecting rooms so we can hang out before and after heading out. It's convenient and nice on those notes. I also travel 200-300 days a year on average. I've encountered almost everything. Good, bad, great, awful and mediocre. This hotel is mediocre but keeps getting worse and is becoming downright dangerous with the disregard for guests and their safety.
My last stay was with my girlfriend the first weekend in December with friends for one of our nights out downtown. This stay and how it was handled is what I'm basing this review on.
We had some minor issue(s) when we arrived but nothing major. Our problems arose when we came back to the hotel later that night. Our group decided to stop in to Bouys (bar downstairs) to finish off our night. We grabbed a few drinks and the place was a bit rougher than usual. Being close to last call we decided to call it a night before any problems. And thats where things went bad. The lobby and breakfast room were both packed with people who were not only loud, obnoxious and belligerent, but they were obviously not patrons or guests and were just there to hang out. After ignoring more than a few dirty looks and things said we made it to the elevator and our rooms. The front desk staff just ignored everything that was going on. So about an hour later someone heads down to hit the vending machine and comes back bristling and empty handed. While down there he verbally accosted and threatened by numerous individuals in the mob we encountered before. All racially driven because he is white. Again, COMPLETELY ignored by the front desk and other staff.
The next morning management is made aware of the situation and has nothing to say about it. No "we're sorry", no "we will/are trying to address the issue", nothing. So as paying guest they simply do not care. That couple leaves and then the petty BS starts. 9am room service comes by, wakes us and we ask that they come back later. 30 mins later they are back. This happens several times and checkout is 11am. We finally get around to packing up and 10 mins to 11 here comes room service again. Each time has been more rude than the last. I tell the maid we're finishing up and will be out in just a few minutes. 10:58 the phone rings and it is the manager rudely "reminding" us checkout is 11am. We leave and none-the-less the maid is working on other rooms down the hall yet; not even close to our room. We head downstairs and the manager would not even acknowledge us. I try to be considerate to staff and housekeeping as much as I travel but I despise being "shoo-ed" out of rooms and even more so when unnecessarily. For staff and management to act as they did is unacceptable.
After this last stay none of our group will be staying here again until things change and I recommend staying a few miles down the road at one of the chains to avoid the trouble that keeps getting worse and worse here. Cost is pretty close...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel and I must say, it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment I checked in, I was greeted with a level of hospitality and warmth that set the tone for my entire stay. The staff were not only friendly but exceptionally accommodating, ensuring all my needs were met with a smile.
One of the standout features of this hotel is definitely the balcony view. Not only do you get a panoramic view of the city, but beyond that lies the magnificent Lake Michigan. The sight of the lake during sunset is breathtaking and offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s a perfect spot for some evening relaxation or a quiet morning coffee.
The rooms themselves have been recently remodeled and are up to the current standards of modern comfort. Each room includes a fridge, which is a convenient touch, especially for longer stays. The decor is sleek and contemporary, providing a refreshing and pleasant environment. The aesthetic of the room coupled with its amenities makes for a comfortable and relaxing vibe.
As you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by a stunning foyer. It sets a great first impression and speaks volumes about the hotel's attention to detail in aesthetics and atmosphere. The overall design and ambiance are welcoming yet stylish, making it a great spot to spend some time in.
Location-wise, the hotel couldn't be better placed. It’s within walking distance of most major attractions and facilities, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the city. Whether you're in town for business or pleasure, you’ll find that having everything nearby adds to the leisurely pace of the stay.
An added bonus is the free parking, a feature that's often hard to come by in city hotels. It saved me a lot of hassle and additional expenses, which is always a plus. The complimentary continental breakfast is another thoughtful touch. It offers a decent variety of options to start your day without needing to leave the premises.
However, what truly sets this hotel apart is the price. At less than $100 during the week, it offers exceptional value for money. In an industry where prices can soar, especially for high-quality accommodations, this hotel provides a budget-friendly alternative without compromising on comfort or convenience.
Of course, if you're seeking luxury akin to high-end resorts or something extravagant, you might want to explore options up the road. For nearly triple the price, you can indulge in more opulent accommodations. But for what this hotel offers, it's a remarkable deal – a true blend of quality, service, and affordability.
In conclusion, this hotel is a hidden gem. It doesn’t just offer a place to stay, but an entire experience defined by warm hospitality, excellent location, and superb value. It’s perfect for travelers looking to maximize their experience without breaking the bank. I highly recommend it for anyone passing through or spending some time to...
