I grew up in St. Joe and this store is part of my past. I remember my aunt Sophie Dansfield giving her daughter Debbie and I a quarter each to spend there. Back in the early 1960s a quarter had some spending power. After an hour or so we ended up with a box of fake fingernails. We walked home and glued them on, only to find out we were having fried chicken for supper. No amount of strategy helped us get a grip on the drumsticks. It was fingernails or chicken. I didn’t realize I left my bag at the store until I returned to my home which is 3 hours away from St Joseph! I called and they had it set aside for me.
