Mi family and I had a good stay at this hotel. Location was great, just 15 min away from my family, price was reasonable based on the demand of the season, room was extremely clean and hotel was dated but kept presentable. We loved the layout of out 1 bedroom suite, it worked out for me and my kids. I could watch TV in the bedroom while they were playing their PS4 in the living room TV or eating breakfast in the dining table or just sleeping in the pull out while I was getting things ready in the master room. Just a great room. The issue I had was with a couple of people at the front desk and the breakfast attendant. I Understand that they get very busy and there is only 1.person helping all the guest having breakfast, but the last thing I want for me or my mother was for an employee to try to lecture me or my mom specially over something so silly as brown sugar for my oatmeal. They had it on the 1st day I was there, did jot on the second but brought some out from the pantry and did not have it the rest of my 6 night stay saying that is not something the brand offers. When questioning the front desk attendant about it she said it was not supposed to be out to begin with but they did it going against brand standards. Once again, I understand everything she said since I work in the industry and I know what brand standards and requirements are however, the way the breakfast attendant responded was definitely far from Marriott's standards of how to treat your guest. Luckily one day before leaving, I had 2 great interaction with 3 great employees there. 2 ladies from housekeeping on the second floor were not just helpful, but friendly and very personable and the last one with Victoria at the front desk. She help.me to check in the night I arrived and we chatted a lil since she was waiting for her system to respond. 5 days later when she saw me again, not only she helped me with whatever I came down to the front desk with, but she asked me about my grandmother's birthday party, which was the reason for visiting San Antonio. That simple question and brief interaction changed the not so friendly interactions I had during breakfast. She definitely understands Marriott culture of service and shows it in every interaction she has...
Read moreOur recent stay at the hotel managed by Joe White was nothing short of extraordinary, thanks to the impeccable teamwork of Joe and Carlos. The large and comfortable rooms added a cozy touch that truly made our stay feel like a home away from home.
From the moment we arrived, Joe's personal touch set the tone for a memorable experience. His exceptional managerial skills were evident, as he not only efficiently managed the hotel but also took genuine care in ensuring that each guest felt valued. The highlight of our stay was the delightful barbecue organized by Joe, fostering a sense of camaraderie among our group of 15.
Carlos, manning the front desk, was the epitome of exceptional customer service. Check-in was a breeze, and throughout our stay, Carlos proved to be an invaluable resource. His friendly and helpful attitude, coupled with a genuine eagerness to ensure our comfort, added an extra layer of excellence to our experience.
The collaboration between Joe and Carlos was seamlessly reflected in the hotel's atmosphere. The large, well-appointed rooms provided the perfect backdrop for our stay, making us feel like we had a genuine home base during our time away. It's not every day you find a hotel where the manager and front desk staff work in such harmony, and it truly made a difference in the quality of our stay.
Additionally, the convenience of the shuttle, expertly managed by Bubba, made it easy for us to access the River Walk. This thoughtful amenity added a layer of accessibility to our trip, allowing us to explore the local area with ease.
Our group is genuinely looking forward to the possibility of returning, and it's undoubtedly because of the outstanding teamwork between Joe and Carlos, combined with the comfort of the spacious rooms and the convenience of the shuttle. If you're seeking a hotel experience that goes beyond accommodation, where the manager and staff work together seamlessly to create a welcoming and enjoyable environment, Joe White's hotel, with Carlos at the front desk, is the ideal choice. They've set a high standard for what hospitality should be – personal, friendly, and...
Read moreThis review really is a tale of two cities so to speak.
On one hand you have one of the friendliest and hardest working group of folks I've ever seen together in one place. If I was running a hotel or similar establishment, I'd definitely try to hire away this crew. All_of_them. Their attitude and cordiality really made you feel like you were staying at a close friend's home instead of a motel.
The actual facilities left a lot to be desired however. The exercise room was nothing more than a couple of treadmills and a few dumbbells. I've no idea where the pic of the exercise room above was taken but it's definitely NOT the exercise room I saw at this hotel. Easily the worst exercise room I've ever seen in a hotel. They really should just tear it down and make room for expanding the......................
Pool! The pool is nothing more than the wading pool your parents gave you in the backyard when you were a little kid except the one here is below ground. Seriously-----what's the point of even having one if all you can do is just sit there?
The washer were old, didn't work too well and were broken every other week it seemed. Did I mention that they weren't free either? $1.25 per load.
And the bed was simply not comfortable. I really just can't put it any other way.
A big boost to my stay was the free meals. Especially the free breakfast every morning. Real breakfast foods like sausage, waffles, scrambled eggs and sometimes they even had biscuits and gravy. The dinners were only served Mon-Wed and they were really hit-or-miss. But again-----the staff really busted their rear-ends to make sure you were taken care of. Also------can't go wrong with free beer and wine!
The location is also nice: you're away from the busiest part of downtown but still close enough to walk (weather permitting) or take a cheap cab ride to the river-walk and other attractions. Do not try to drive your car and park somewhere downtown though. It's a waste of time and money and you'll only wind up frustrated. Take a cab and save...
