The lady that was there the night we checked in on June 24th was very nice. Unfortunately the rooms were not somewhere we would stay again. We fought off misquotes from day one until we checked out. The microwave is old and took 10 minutes to heat up a single cup of coffee. The tv continuously powered off by itself while we were watching it. The bathroom is so small and you have to try and avoid touching the wall behind the door due to it being dirty. We kept towels on the bathroom floor to avoid looking at it, it’s really old and gross. The bathroom, walls and carpet was not clean. This hotel is very, VERY run down compared to the newer La Quinta on Caesar Chavez that we always stay at. Unfortunately do to no openings we ended up here. The breakfast is a 1 1/2 stars. No bacon or breakfast sausage, bagels, cream cheese was EVER SERVED like at the other La Quinta. Here at this location it was hard boiled eggs every single day. The area that was actually clean and presentable was the lobby. Upon entering for breakfast on day 2 & 3 the guy at the front desk only said good morning to all of the Hispanic people walking in. He looked up at us, turned his head and proceeded to continue his conversation with the Hispanic guy he was talking to. My family and I will never come back here again and definitely will not recommend anyone. Four people in a room and they kept leaving only 2 wash clothes. We had to ask every single day for more towels and trash bags for the ex, ex small trash bins. If we were not in a pinch and I had actually read the reviews beforehand we definitely wouldn’t have stayed here at this location. La Quinta Inn Caesar Chavez customer from here on out. This location needs a full renovation. I’m talking about completely torn down and rebuilt. I can’t say it enough we were just really disappointed with this location. And beware if your take the Amtrak it is NOT WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE, I repeat NOT. If you arrive after sunset you will be walking in a very unsafe area. Tons of homeless people lurking and scoping you out. Book at your own risk you had been warned. The other reviews that have the photos attached are ABSOLUTELY ACCURATE. And the 5 stars only apply to one person and once again she’s the one who checked us in on our...
Read moreOne of our rooms had a strong smoke smell but the manager addressed it immediately. The rooms and furniture are dated, the bathrooms had several cigarette burn stains and signs of aging. But the rooms were very clean and we didn't have to ask for room service, it was just done like before COVID . That was impressive because it was the 4th hotel on our Roadtrip through South Texas to show my family traveling from Germany how beautiful our state is. What could definitely be improved is the uncomfortable breakfast situation: the station for the waffle irons is too small and cramped to even put a plate down while fixing pancakes. The cone cups for the waffle dough are highly impractical because you cannot prefill them which adds to the time to prepare waffles. People have to reach across others and the lines for making waffles were long. There was not enough seating in the breakfast area so everyone bad to make multiple waffles to eat in their rooms. I appreciate they provided boxes to safely carry the food but this setup never allowed us to come back for seconds. As a matter of fact, when we tried that on the second morning, staff just refused to refill waffle dough and unplugged the irons while people were still waiting. There were no warm eggs or bacon either. Staff briefing the counter ignored the guests in line and just kept their eyes glued to their phones. This was the only property on our roadtrip where we felt less welcome. We intentionally booked downtown to walk the beautiful El Mercado area, Riverwalk, La Villita, Alamo, etc. Despite being right next to a construction area, our rooms were quiet and enjoyable. Please do fix the breakfast situation, even extending the time for breakfast could alleviate the rush and reduce long lines. Another option would be to add a small table to the waffle station and have cups that can be put down so when you make multiple waffles you could have a cup ready as soon as you take out a finished waffle. One of the reasons I'm a LaQuinta regular is the breakfast and at this location it was a major letdown. People dropped food because there were not enough tables and this added to the messiness that...
Read moreWhere do I begin? We reserved our room on October 18th (2 months before our stay), at check in we were told that they did not have a non smoking king deluxe as we reserved. All they had were king smoking. I asked how is that possible since we had made reservations (directly on their website) for a specific type of room. The desk clerk gave us excuse # 1: Other guest that reserved after us got the rooms first. Told him that did not make sense. Then gave us excuse # 2: Other guest checked in before us and received the non smoking deluxe room. Again how is that possible since check in was at 3 and we were there at 3:25 plus we had a reservation booked in advance. Excuse # 3: The hotel only has seven (7) non smoking king rooms out of the entire hotel. Still not buying it and still questioning his answers. Clerk kept looking to the other clerk for help in answering but you could tell she didn't want anything to do with trying to answer our questions. So our choices came down to a king smoking room or a double bed non smoking. We chose the double bed but clerk did not want to give us a discount and said that was all they had and if we didn't take it then it would be given to someone else. The room stunk like a wet dirty dog. Housekeeping had not done a very good job. Clothing tags on top of a/c, microwave had splattered food, furniture not dusted. Went to office to complain of smell. We were given two spray bottles of Odoban to spray in room. We were told they could shampoo the carpet but we would have to be out of the room so it could completely dry. Met another couple in the lobby that had the same complaints. We ended up going to Walmart to buy carpet fresh and a scented plug-in. We booked this location because we had a Christmas party at one of the restaurants across the street. We thought it would be a convenient location and no driving involved plus we are Wyndham rewards members and thought this would be as nice as some of the other hotels we have stayed at. Next time I will book a nicer, cleaner, hotel and take a taxi! Never again!!! Can I change my star to a zero star cause this place doesn't even...
