First time here. It was just my hubby and I. They sat us immediately but in a terrible section. I wanted the area that has windows to see the market (picture attached of that area) but instead we had the corner where all the wait staff would come and hang out.
We ordered the George's Special($15.75) and the Deluxe Mexican plate($24.75) with an extra enchilada($4.25). Two sweet tea($7.30). We also ordered to go the George's Special($15.75) and Cheese Enchilada Dinner($14.25). To go charge: $2.07
It didn't feel like we had to wait long for our meals or maybe I was too distracted by the worker's gossip and trying not to be recorded by other customers.
George's Special comes with 1 enchilada, 1 beef crispy taco, portion of rice, a portion of guacamole inside a chip bowl, and 3 bean and cheese nachos. Sp instead of getting a portion of beans you get 3 nachos... those actually tasted good. The rice did not taste good. A good amount of rice grains were hard. Thankfully they don't serve you much of it. The enchilada is small and tasted okay but not $15 bucks worth. The guacamole salad needed salt and lemon to give it some flavor. They never brought us salsa Verde or none chip salsa otherwise I would have put it in there. The crispy taco tasted flavorless but with whatever chip salsa we had left it helped it. Overall nothing to brag about.
Deluxe Mexican plate, came with cooked onions and beef fajitas, rice and beans, 1 tamal, 1 enchilada (hubby order an extra one), crispy taco, and guacamole in chip bowl. The fajitas had no flavor... not even salt or pepper. The onions didn't help. The tamale tasted decent but was a bit soggy. He didn't like the rest of his plate because it didn't have any seasoning.
The flour tortillas were tough and didn't have a good fresh taste. Which was disappointing since people have said those taste amazing.
What made our experience worse was that a waiter decided to sweep the walkway rug right next to us as we were eating. I could smell all the dust and dirt which became all I could taste. I had a sneeze fit but he just kept sweeping only our area. It was sickening.
Not worth the price or hype. Yes certain parts look pretty but the food is too expensive for small portions and no flavoring. Sadly, later my husband had an upset stomach.
Sadly, the orders to go were missing items and I feel bad cause I didn't check before we left. I just wanted out of that dust cloud that employee made around us.
Total with tip: $109.91
If you're not fortunate enough to find parking at the restaurant, you'll have to pay $10.00...
ย ย ย Read moreMost renown Mexican restaurant as it has been around for 8 decades, since 1941. Capturing San Antonio history with its iconic artist wall paintings of famous community members of San Antonio to include famous stars who have made their way here. This is definitely a go to tourist place, a must add to your bucket list when visiting San Antonio or celebrating a special occasion. I have grown up coming here for years as I live in Seguin and it is an easy location to get to as it is right off the highway. You will be paying more for the Mexican Nostalgia, the atmosphere as it is FUN and colorful. The Mariachis are wonderful, the wait staff all dressed accordingly...you feel like your are in a Mexican kitchen with family all around. The menu is priced decently but expect it little pricey but that us due to location and its famous reputation. My plate was $13.99 so not too bad and it included the guacamole. The refried beans were good, red enchiladas very soft and the tortillas actually AWESOME! Felt like home. As you look everyone there laughing and really enjoying themselves. We were there to celebrate a graduation. My brother was able to go an hour before everyone got there to accommodate our huge group. Right outside as you step out the doors is the Mercado where you can purchase Mexican mercantile and agua frescas, etc and enjoy Mexican bands. Feels like you are in Laredo. As you are leaving, the bakery is available. For me, I was in line, but as I stood there and looked options, I got out, I felt like there were too many of these "fancy, coconutty, pastries. I just didn't feel it. I loved the old style with empanadas, galletas, conchas along with a few fancy to include a nice praline etc. But this bakery did have options like from your trips to Mexico for the different dulces. I must warn you PARKING IS HORRIBLE. Lots of construction around. Currently I definitely will not be bringing my parents any time soon especially my dad and wheelchair. Just not much room left to maneuver. I suggest pay the $10 for parking and let the parking guy guide you across street. Watch your steps. If you choose free parking at the restaurant it us TIGHT! They do have valets that help parking but know you will be blocked. But all in all, it...

Be prepared to be blown away. Seriously great Comida Mexรญcana!!! The dish from which I judge the authenticity of Mexican food is the complex sauce called Mole (Moh-leh). It is a dish that Mexican abuelitas labored over for hours, and one that came only once a year (at least in my family). A compound of chiles and chocolate, nuts and spices; it is hours in the making; but it is sublime. Mole is also a dish that some restaurants take the easy way out instead of sticking to tradition. Mi Tierra does not skimp on tradition. This mole is undoubtedly the BEST, most flavorful Mole I have ever eaten in a restaurant!!! From the first bite there was an explosion on my tastebuds! Their Mole has the complex set of flavors that every Mexican Mole Lover expects. It is so legitimate. I had the Chicken Mole Enchiladas and if I came here again (traveling through) I would be hard-pressed to be able to find something else other than this Mole.
We came to San Antonio for Dรญa De Los Muertos; and it was so heartwarming to enter this restaurant. The beautiful Ofrendas (alters) for all their loved ones who have passed away gave me the se that we were eating with family. It is beautifully decorated throughout. In addition to the ambiance were the strolling guitar players plucking out songs that brought my parents back for a few moments.
We sipped on amazing Margaritas and I was transportedโฆ to the Mรฉxico de mis Abuelos!
Once you are well fed and serenaded, donโt forget to visit the authentic Panaderรญa!!! Every kind of Mexican sweet treat (Pan Dulce) exists for you to take home and have with a hit cup of coffee in the morning.
I feel like I have seen it all after eating at this fine Mexican eatery.
Here on business; EAT HERE! Just driving through San Antonio, STOP!!!; EAT HERE!
Not hungry? EAT HERE ANYWAY!!
