Location is 10 minutes or less from airport. 15 minutes or so to the zoo. 35 minutes from the safari and about the same from the premium outlets by the US side of the border. Easy to get to.
Hotel was recently renovated. Still some furnishings that show some wear in the breakfast area. Small dings in the elevators from luggage carts.
Note: no guest laundry, no business center. They will print stuff for you if you forward an email to front desk. Luggage carts available on request.
Details:
Front desk - amazing staff, even the weekends. You need something, they will make it happen
Breakfast - (not included in room cost, but charged to room ) hot fresh buffet breakfast. Rotating selection of fresh pastries and cut fruit. Standard hot selection, 'scrambled eggs' that look fresh cooked at first glance. Seasoned potatoes cubes (medium size). (Sometimes with green or green and red peppers, other days red onions). Meats are sausage links, bacon freshly oven cooked I would guess. The ladies keep an eye on the hot stuff and add or refresh it as needed. Eggs are served in a new pan each batch unlike other hotels I have stayed at. Bacon is added or changed out depending on quality. Bagels, bread of 3 kinds to toast on a belt toaster. Belgian waffles mix and iron. Produces perfect waffles compared to other 3 star hotels. All food is closely monitored for quantity and quality. Your tablet is cleared of empties and discarded items as you eat. Good hot coffee, teas (two bags per cup) are available.
Rooms - furnishings are nice and new. Beds are firm but not overly hard or soft. TV offers wide selection channels. USB A ports available for charging at desk or by beds. Power outlets also on clock block by bed. 4 pillows per bed. 1 harder pillow per bed (double queen). Housekeeping restore every 3 days. Refresh and trash everyday.
The only negatives are the flow restrictor shower heads, slow hot water. You have to stand at the front of the shower to stay in a soft stream that barely gets the soap off after a minute.
Note to hotel GM: your wasting a good shower space. Water barely reached the middle leaving the back half dirty.
But in shower liquid soap is nice. Shampoo is good, but I'm very particular about my shampoo so I don't use it after first day.
The glass barn door, note a good idea. Let's light into an otherwise dark bedroom and bounces off wall mirror into the bed area. Not sound blocking either. You hear the toilet. Black out drapes great, soundproofing is good. Some ambulance sirens occasionally, you can never totally block that noise.
Note to GM: your fire sprinkler in the bathroom of 605 is rusty. The vent needs to be cleaned. Mirror double lighting is a nice feature.
Elevators - card key required for floors and parking. Roomy enough for luggage carts and two people.
Parking - Secured behind steel doors on entry and exit. Card key activated entry. Don't bring your large SUV here if you want covered parking. Additional parking via parking garage on an upper ground level.
There is a pool but we didn't use it.
That's the details....you get more than the price you pay staying here. This is 4 star service at a 3 star hotel.
Enjoy...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel in the past when it was ‘Four Points Sheraton’. I recently stayed a few different times since Best Western took it over as ‘The Dextro’, and I feel like it is a major upgrade. |First and foremost, the service is some of the best I’ve experienced at a hotel in recent memory. |Ryan always went above and beyond. One time I had a mixup with the dates of my booking, and he immediately helped to resolve it. He was always super friendly, courteous, and professional (as were all the staff I encountered). The previous staff under Sheraton were nowhere close to this level.|Ryan also went out of his way to help us get the best room available, and even followed to make sure we were comfortable and ask if we needed anything else (thank you Ryan!)|The rooms were always spotless clean, the beds/pillows were always very comfortable. Big screen tv with the most channels I’ve ever seen at a hotel. Rooms/bathrooms are in a modern style and just feel overall welcoming. The location of the hotel is also close to all the great restaurants/bars of Little Italy (including the trolley stop), as well as close to downtown/Civic Center trolley stop. |This will always be my first choice when I’m looking for a place to stay in the Downtown/Little Italy area. |(Also I see some negative reviews due strictly to the price of parking, which is absolutely ridiculous. All hotels in downtown SD, and all major downtown US cities for that matter, charge ridiculous fees for parking. Don’t blame the hotel for that. Either don’t drive, OR find cheaper parking (use your brain/Google. I know multiple spots in the area where street...
Read moreDear Management Team,
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding a recent encounter with your front desk staff member, Litzi. On [date], I experienced an incredibly rude and disrespectful interaction that I feel compelled to bring to your attention.
Litzi’s attitude from the moment I approached the desk was unacceptable. When I informed her that I had received a text message about my room being ready, she immediately dismissed it as a scam without any courtesy or willingness to verify the information. She then told me to wait an additional 10 to 15 minutes for my room, despite the fact that I had already been waiting in line for a considerable amount of time.
Upon returning after waiting as instructed, Litzi continued to dismiss me, refused to check on my room status, and blatantly prioritized other guests without any valid reason. I felt completely disrespected and frankly, it seemed like a form of discrimination. This is not the kind of treatment any guest should face, and it’s certainly not reflective of the level of hospitality I expected from your hotel.
It is my strong opinion that Litzi should not be in a customer-facing role if she is unable to treat guests with basic courtesy and respect. I request that you contact me directly to discuss this matter further, as I believe it warrants immediate attention.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this serious issue. I look forward to your...
