I heard so much about this place but it was quite disappointment.
Grilled Chicken Box had very very little chicken. I asked for the box with fries and greens (had originally asked for only greens but then asked put in some fries as well instead) and there was barely any greens but so so many fries! Fries were also not even crispy. They were actually quite soft and soggy. Flavorful but soft.
Carved Chicken Box had a good amount of chicken in there, and chicken was also flavorful. But the rice was undercooked! We could actually taste the flight crunchiness in the rice. To be honest that I had a lot of flavor but husband ended up leaving half of it because it was undercooked a bit and we didn't want to risk getting an upset stomach.
Good portion size on the Falafel in the Falafel Box. My friend actually found it so much, she couldn't even finish all the falafel.
Got the spicy hummus on the side and it was just so so. Actually spicy though. Not sure what that flavor was, but it was quite strong. We ended up only having a tiny spoon of it and just left most of it for the next day. Good portion size of this as well.
Definitely needed to add sauces to the boxes because they were quite plain otherwise. Definitely recommend the green sauce and asking for the Dill yogurt dressing at the counter. They usually put that on the salads only but it goes well on the box.
Overall I would say they give a good amount of food but it just wasn't...
Read moreUpdate : Food: To answer the question for the 5 star, Doner is made with skirt steak layered on metal skewer, and high heat from the side gives the fat on skirt steak crunchy and tasty texture. It honestly would be cost prohibitive to make money with it. Also, traditionally, it comes in a brioche style pita bread (not the dry crumbly ones in the states), and chewy texture provided by it gives a layer of complexity to the flavor. Atmosphere: I saw the remodeling brochure, it looks nice, just some more livelier colors with the open floor plan will be great. You guys have a unique way of preparing food, I would explore ways to bring that to front and show customers. After all, that is the sale pitch of the proposition. Service: After ordering the food, there is not a natural flow in the restaurant, drink, and sauces tucked hidden in the back corner. I would recommend making a visit to shake shack, really like their flow, increase the service speed and also keep the restaurant clean at all times. I hope you don't take my answers negatively. I really love the concept and fan of the food. Just some little nuances.
Had SF Doner Wrap, which comes with Feta Cheese and French fries in the wrap in addition to Lamb, Lettuce, Onion, and Tomato. Both Hot Chili sauce and garlic yogurt sauce were great. Really good price for the amount...
Read moreI recently visited The Kebab Shop in downtown San Diego, located at 630 9th Avenue, and found it to be a solid choice for a quick Mediterranean meal. The menu offers a variety of options, including wraps, bowls, and plates with proteins like chicken, lamb, and falafel. I opted for the lamb wrap, which was flavorful and satisfying. The portions were generous, and the ingredients tasted fresh.
The staff was friendly and efficient, and my order was ready promptly. The restaurant's interior is clean and modern, with a casual atmosphere suitable for a quick lunch or dinner. However, seating is somewhat limited, so it might be challenging to find a spot during peak hours.
One downside is that the prices are slightly higher compared to similar fast-casual Mediterranean spots. Additionally, while the food was good, it didn't stand out as exceptional. The flavors were enjoyable but lacked the depth and complexity found in some other Mediterranean eateries.
Overall, The Kebab Shop offers a convenient and tasty option for those craving Mediterranean cuisine in downtown San Diego. It's a reliable spot for a quick meal, though it may not be the most memorable...
