Google maps got it wrong. They're open from 7to7. So they were closing when I got there. Even so the display cases were filled with a vast array of delicious items. I got the rest of the lamb stew for a mere $6. It turned out to be plenty with big chunks of lamb, carrots and potatoes swimming in a delicious gravy.

In case that wasn't enough (it was) I also got a roasted chicken breast quarter for only $3.50. While it was quite good it couldn't compete with the lamb stew. Although, with the addition of a little salt, it would have been Amazing! But that's more the fault of my blood pressure than of the cooking. I was just going to eat a little since I bought it (and I was full of stew) but I ended up wolfing down every bite.

And just to prove that these guys are as friendly as they are great cooks they surprised me with a muffin for tomorrow's breakfast at no cost. Taking one last look as I went out the door I almost stopped to buy some of the pastries. But, again, they were trying to close. Next time, I promised myself, because I will...

If you're over 65 you will probably love this place. That's who most of the clientele are. There are many senior citizens and retirement villages in La Jolla who long for nostalgia.

As someone not in that demographic I was low-key shocked and offended when I dined here. Some of the staff are down-right odd and not in a charming way.

When I was checking out the female cashier helping me was taking too long for another male cashier's liking. He wanted to use the register.

So this weird odd man starts talking to me but he's insulting me but in a way he thinks is "cute". It's not.

The food was gross. I ordered the special of the day which was beef stroganoff. They put it in a paper container, heated it up, and brought it out to me.

  1. It was ice cold to lukewarm in spots, it's not meant to be eaten like that
  2. The food had already completely soaked the paper box and destroyed it by the time it came to my table. The stroganoff was practically falling out of the box it was an...

How is there only 8 reviews?! This place is AMAZING. home-style; family-style vibes.

I had the pecan cinnamon roll first. It was perfectly flaky on the outside and the inside was warm, moist and flavorful! No overpower from the spices. Everything balanced!

Then I went back for their beef stew and rice. Took it home so I could eat it and plan my nap hahaha. It was delicious.

The beef was tender but not too soft where it lost its form. The celery, mushrooms, carrots, onions, etc was cooked perfect with the same, holding its form and not turning into a slop. The sauce had a good mild tomato base but the acidity was not high.

U can definitely taste the time, effort and care these guys put into their food.

The attendants (I went 2x separate times within the span of a couple hours) were patient and friendly. A simple smile to them and they smile right back :)

Definitely gonna make this a regular place. They have so many items to try out.

Sorry I don’t have more photos. I...

I was passing by this bakery and saw the delicious pastries behind the window and couldn’t help myself to buy a few of them. I noticed as I was standing in line there were flies everywhere, but I attributed it to just being a hot day in La Jolla. The cookie was stale and later that evening, on my walk around the village; I noticed that the bakery leaves all of their pastries out and covers them with a thin piece of paper. Flies were swarming all around and it strikes me as a health department issue. Very disturbing to wonder how long the pastries have been sitting out and yet we are paying a premium for pastries that have been enjoyed by flies. *as an example, I’ve included pictures of the cookie and the napkins*

Stopped in for a snack. The place was adorable and so much variety. Seemed like a family run place or at least they treated each other that way. The line was cramped and very long due to the design of the store but somehow they manage to keep the line moving really well weaving in and out of each other finding ways to help customers, organized chaos so to speak. I got a apple streusel and it was amazing. my daughter got a cranberry muffin and her and I both tried it and it didn't have much flavor but the texture and moisture were good. I would go back but maybe not the cranberry muffin. Sorry Girard
