Our recent visit to Ocean Beach Dog Beach left us utterly enamored, offering a delightful escape that catered to both our furry friends and ourselves. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that this beach held a special charm unlike any other.

Perhaps one of the best dog parks in the country. (The best is nearby Fiesta Island. The true Isle of dogs...) Your pooch will LOVE being able to run around in the ocean surf with other dogs and families. There is also a freshwater channel that folks use to play tennis ball fetch in. The current can be somewhat strong, so I'd stay a bit close to the shore until you're sure your pet is a strong swimmer.

Walk down the channel to see wildlife and a sort of estuary setting, but be careful of harassing birds. some parts are off limits, depending on the nesting season.

Cons: Parking a bit tight. If you "Zen park" farther away you'll be happy, but your pooch will have an aneurysm while waiting.

Sand - Tip: bring a stiff brush, as opposed to a towel or rinse bottle, if your pooch is short-haired;

Bathroom/rinse off station feels like it's an eternity away, (about a block down the beach). Sometimes homeless persons sort of set up camp, but it's mostly fine, if dank.

Food, convenience stores etc., just a few blocks away (on Voltaire I think), if you want to keep your parking spot. Your car will be sandy, but it's worth it. Makeshift seat cover can help.

And, I've frankly had more trouble with one or two owners being aggressive -- defending their dog's interesting behavior -- than any dogs, and find that the few aggressive-looking dogs, are usually the most well behaved. Bring something like a treat to perhaps, dissuade large dogs, if yours is small and or...

Been coming to this off leash dog beach for awhile now ~ love it every time! It’s pure dog joy! Love watching our dogs take it all in; their doggie senses overloaded with sights, sounds, smells! What fun! There’s lots of room, both to meet and greet and to do your own thing, if they need a break! It’s a classic big, sandy beach both along the ocean & inland up the river…the river is warmer, clear, calm & a fun walk Of course, the dogs love it all! We always see a variety of dogs & of people…and a good time is being had by everyone 😀 The adjacent parking lot is free and fairly big…We tend not to arrive at peak times & there’s always been plenty of space ~ There are bag stations if you’re in need…and with little exception, folks seem to stay on top of the pick up! Can’t recommend highly enough taking a trip to this dog beach ~ it’s both free and priceless! Your dogs will love the experience & you’ll love watching them experience it! Thank you log lovers of...
