We started our 3 week trip to the USA with 3 nights in San Francisco at The Coventry Inn Lombard Street. The hotel is in a great location and whilst it's not the most modern hotel it's in a great location with good parking and the rooms are immaculate so all credit to the room maids. When checking in the older staff member I believe named Vince was not at all welcoming and seemed miserable. I remember commenting to my brother that he wasn't at all friendly. The issues with staff really started when my brother and I went to our room to find both the beds looked like someone had just got out of them and we quickly realised that the room had not been serviced at all. As we had found when we checked in that we only had a double room we requested a double double so the room was changed, as we had made this change we took this as a fair reason that the room had not been made up. I called the front desk, Vince answered and the conversation went like this..... "Hello this is Simon in room 116" Vince - "Yes?" Me - " I'm afraid our room has not been made up and the beds look like someone has just got out" Vince - "Yes that's entirely possible" then silence....... Me- " Ok well could you send someone to service the room please?" Vince - "Well you'll have to take a seat and I'll call you back". His tone was very abrupt, no apology and he seem like we were just inconveniencing him. A few minutes later he knocked on the door and when I opened it all he said was he said " Come here!" I said "excuse me?" He said "Come here!" again. I was very taken aback and said " what did you say to me?" He held up two new room cards and said " there are for another room, it's that or nothing" turned around and walked away! I was amazed at how rude he was and felt very angry, his whole attitude stank and he is the rudest hotel staff member I have every come across. This man should not be working in hospitality. When we left the hotel my parents room door stopped working and some of their belongings were trapped in the room. Staff couldn't open it either so we agreed to go out for breakfast, it was a little inconvenient as we wanted to get on the road early but hey things go wrong sometimes and it wasn't a big issue. As we were short of time we asked if they could bring the items stuck, in the room down to reception once the broken door had been opened. Upon our return we were told by Ming on the front desk that the door was fixed but they were too busy to bring the items down and we would have to go and get them ourselves. I wouldn't stay in this hotel again due to the staff rather the hotel itself which is good. I strongly suggest to the owners you retrain your staff on how to speak to and...
Read moreThis is an undiscovered gem! Recently renovated, the rooms are spacious, and many have large bay windows. Clean and bright, in whites, blues, and grays, the room is tastefully accented with soothing wall art and a decorative throw of the bay area. Free WIFI and FREE PARKING are included. Not only is the parking free, but it is covered and secure; you have to use your room key to open the metal gate to the garage!||The check-in process was smooth and easy. We arrived an hour early, but as our room was already clean, they went ahead and let us check in. The front desk people were pleasant and helpful. They let us know up front that, if we wanted our room cleaned, we needed to notify the desk by7pm the night before, but that spare towels and toilet paper was available at the front desk, which was staffed 24 hours. My husband and I aren't very messy and prefer our privacy, so not a problem.||They give you a parking pass to keep on your dash (one car per room). The elevator requires your room key as well, so still secure. The elevator is huge! Not only does the complimentary luggage cart fit, but at least 6 people could fit next to it!||The room has a safe, a refrigerator, a coffemaker, a flatscreen tv, and a rain shower head . No microwave. The closet had plenty of coat hangars, and the drawer in the bathroom had enough room that my toiletries could stand upright.||There's an ice machine and a soda machine on each floor. However, there is no free breakfast, no gym, and no pool. There is also NO RESORT FEE! Essentially, this is a very nice no-frills hotel that does what you would expect without added fanfare. We stayed 5 nights for my convention at the Moscone, for an average of $200 a night, tax included. In San Francisco, to get a place like this with included covered parking and no resort fee is unheard of. ||I was concerned about getting to my convention at 630 am (my husband doesn't like mornings, and didn't want to deal with downtown SF traffic before coffee). Waymo to the rescue! The morning drive was the highlight of my day!||Checkout was just as smooth and pleasant as check-in. I WILL ABSOLUTELY BE...
Read moreI was in town for 72 hours in order to see Orthopedic doctor extraordinaire, Dr. Kevin Stone, concerning my ankle and hip. His clinic is only 10 blocks away and the Coventry was an affordable, easy access hotel.
The desk crew are amazing. The primary desk manager, originally from Singapore, was friendly and fun to exchange info with concerning my home town and his San Francisco. We had a gas talking about the price of a one-bedroom apartment in both markets. I live near Tucson so obviously the rents were more than 1/2 of San Francisco's....in fact, almost 2/3.
I liked the comforable room, awesome elevators, and the bathroom deluxe. Sure, there was one tile missing from the base of the wall next to the shower, but so what? The overall, for the incredibly reasonable price, was excellent. Lots of Italian tourists were present and the mask wearing was epic.
I had the strange feeling of Deja Vu as I first entered the lobby which is on the ground floor in a garage drive-through area of the building. In from Buchanan Street and out onto Lombard, that's the flow..... Later, after my youngest daughter Googled the hotel's address as we spoke on the phone, she reminded me that she had worked there at the front desk and reservations in the year 2000 and that I had walked in and surprised her with my visit to see how she was doing in helicopter pilot school at Oakland International Airport. Holy **!!
I'm going back in 6-8 weeks to see the doc again. I will definitely stay at the Coventry once again. Besides, I love Sushi and across the street and west down the block is a fantastic restaurant named Yando. Sushi to...
