If you're even thinking of booking here, don't hesitate, do it.
We decided to stay here to end off our trip up the coast and we were not disappointed. I am definitely type who's willing to pay extra to stay at a chain hotel like holiday inn for their cleanliness, good customer service, and free parking so staying at a motel always puts me on edge. This motel was like the most upscale motel 6 you've ever been to, in a good way. We checked in around 11pm and got parked and into our room within 5 minutes of getting there even though we booked through a third party. The man at the front desk was very polite. The rooms are newly renovated so they are very good looking and they look well maintained and clean. I heard a lot about night break ins but the parking lot is locked on one side and has cameras throughout so we didn't have any problems and I am sure they never will. Beds were very comfortable, lights all over the room for ambiance or to read /have as a nightlight. The TV worked great and the room was soundproofed very well because my girlfriend is hard of hearing and you couldn't hear the loud volume from outside the room or all the passing cars on the street while inside. Out of all those good things to say, the only I could wish for is that they put a microwave in all the rooms going forward, would make a big difference for some people with long stays who want to reheat leftovers. Check out also took about 30 seconds so it was an incredibly easy process.
Overall this place exceeded our expectations for the price, we got a room for around $100 and couldn't have been happier with the quality of service and the room and free parking was a huge bonus I can't go without. I would gladly stay here anytime in the future I will be in the area, so many things to do are nearby, and so easy to take public transport or just your own car and return to park and relax. If you're thinking about getting an affordable room in the area, don't waste your time or money with any...
Read moreThe Star Motel is a great place to stay if you: 1. Have a car, 2. Like to walk, 3. Don’t need the amenities of a full service hotel. It works well as a home base for a family or an individual. The area is safe and the motel is an attractive throwback place to stay.
The hotel is well maintained. I believe it’s newly renovated. The parking lot and walks are kept swept. They have a fountain, and flowers in the planters. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean if small. It’s a little noisy with car sounds but not horrible. We needed clean towels and had a light out and called the front desk. The problem was handled immediately. The light fixture actually needed an electrician and it was fixed while we were gone. Sam the manager is very helpful and easy to deal with. One thing I was not a fan of was the automatic light in the bathroom. It went on and off at weird times. Like during your shower.
The hotel is within walking distance of Pier 39 and lots of other shopping and eating areas. We had a car since we were planning day trips, so finding a free place to keep our car was a top priority.
Would I prefer a hotel with breakfast, workout room, and a few more amenities? Yes. But this was a great alternative for...
Read moreThe Star Motel hit everything on our list. Great location, close to everything we wanted - golden gate bridge, freeways, Chinatown, the wharf, and airport. Great price with parking included and an easy in/out parking lot. The neighborhood felt safe and quiet yet near everything. The room was immaculate with sleek renovations, comfy beds, luxurious bath products, and trendy decor. The one tip I have for management is the bathroom lights are not great. They are motion sensor and resulted in two problems: 1) the sensor doesn’t pick up movement in the shower, and we experienced total blackouts while showering when the light inevitably turned off mid-lather. It was short lived but sudden blackouts in the shower causes panic. 2) the light is very bright, so for overnight bathroom use, you are blinded by the light coming on, which is unpleasant and makes it harder to fall back asleep. Despite the bathroom light issue, I wouldn’t hesitate to return to this...
