Summary: Excellent value, service and location. Convenient, secure parking nearby. Free hot buffet breakfast in a rooftop lounge (great city views) adds to the value, convenience and pleasure. No-brainer to stay here if attending an event in the Marines Memorial Theatre, which we did.||My wife and I had tickets to an event in the theatre, so staying at the hotel seemed like a good idea. The hotel recommends parking at the Olympic Club Garage, a half block away. It’s valet parking, but secure and convenient. I made an online reservation and was glad I did, because the parking was “full” when we arrived, but we could park with our reservation info (I printed it out, which aided check-in). The parking is a bit old school, with attendants running around to get cars. Olympic Club members also use the garage. It can get busy. Make sure your garage reservation times are what you need.||Our clean and basic hotel room was perfectly good. Comfy king bed. Everything worked fine. The bathroom is tight and the shower a bit dated, but worked fine. Hotel staff was very nice. After the theatre event, we we able to fine late-night dining about 2 blocks away at the lively, excellent Japanese-sushi restaurant, Ryoko, on Taylor Street.||Next morning, we loved the self-serve complimentary breakfast buffet: eggs, potatoes, burritos, grilled veggies, sausage, bacon, pasties, pancakes, yogurt, cereal, coffee, tea, etc. My GF wife was delighted to see yummy GF pastries and hot foods labeled GF. Lots of staff were around to check on tables, buffet, etc. A bonus was the outstanding 12th floor city view. A mix of old and new architecture.||After breakfast (closes at 9:30 am), we appreciated the later noon check-out because it gave us ample time to walk around nearby Union Square and dip a little into Chinatown. We walked about a 6x6 block area, enjoying the holiday decorations and vibe.||I’m a 60-year-old native of the Bay Area, visit SF frequently, and have stayed in 20+ SF hotels. This was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. Definitely...

The event rooms were nice but unfortunately zero air circulation. It was hot and stuffy.

There was not enough room to easily flow through the event. The bar set up blocked a major pass through. The space to have your photo taken was a waste of space as you couldn't step back far enough, due to people and furniture, to get a good photo.

The food was tasty but awkwardly spread out in the main room with the most complicated food, carving stations. Too close to the entrance door, bar and one of the video screens. It created a very large bottleneck and made it difficult to get your food.

The tables were fully set so you didn't have the trouble of carrying your silverware with you while going through the buffet lines. Each setting included a full water glass, it would have been nice if they had additional carafes of water on the table. There was no table service to bring by more water and only one water station at the far end of the which meant you had to cause a disturbance by navigating your way through the over crowed room while the program was going on.

An addition odd set up piece was having the coffee and dessert in one of the auction rooms. This room also had a large portion of the room dedicated to the bar right at the door so you had to wade through the bar line to review the auction items. Not a good set up to increase auction bidding.

Over all the food tasted good and the bar staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were small and over crowded with poor flow due to the set up. Dining staff were far to quick in clearing plates and frequently took a plate before the guest was finished. This place can handle small events but is overwhelmed with...

This is such a unique place. I've never seen a hotel like it. While it is primarily a hotel it is run as a non profit "living memorial" to the Marines who died in WWII and those who continue to serve. This means the pricing is very reasonable for San Francisco, and is dirt cheap for serving military members who get a special rate. It also means there is a lot of history on the walls, including special displays and artifacts. Each floor has something different, such as a memorial to Joe Rosenthal, the war photographer who took the iconic shot of the Marines raising the US flag on Iwo Jima. The rooms themselves are modest but clean. The bed is comfortable. They have free (self service) laundry, free (very good) breakfast with an excellent view, and free (stiff) drinks at happy hour. The location is quite central, in the district where many high end hotels are located, and it is a short walk to union square. For the money, it is a great value. We went as a couple and really enjoyed our stay. The only thing that sucks is the parking. There is no onsite parking garage. They are supposed to have a special deal with the Olympic garage a few doors down, but the special deal is only 60 cents cheaper than regular price! Total works out to $40 per night; double if you have an SUV or "oversize" vehicle.

Amazing hotel/club in the heart of the city (we can see Union Square from our room). We were able to secure the AD rate and it was beyond worth it. It included a complimentary membership to the club (with 100’s of other hotels and clubs worldwide). Our room has a king sized bed and was clean and upgraded (not the bathroom, old and small but oh well). It included a breakfast buffet on the 12th floor with city views and a FREE cocktail hours every day from 1600-1800 with no limit on the number of drinks! The drink selection is slightly limited but we had ordered cosmos, champagne, gin and tonic, whiskey and coke, old fashioned, beer, and wine and they had it all (we stayed for a week). There are 2 separate cocktail hours. We did both and the one for members on the 2nd floor has 7 types of cheese selection and dogs and grapes and crackers!! So nice!! There is also a theatre in the hotel (select shows none available during our stay), a military library, a gym with lap pool and sauna, and lots of military displays.
