I can’t believe how many good reviews this restaurant has after my family had an extremely mediocre experience. First they brought out the wrong cocktail for one of my family members, and the server got defensive when we asked to have our drink order corrected. When we were brought the corrected martini plus an additional someone had ordered, they were lukewarm which is offensive for a martini. The French onion soup that several at our table ordered was inedibly salty. All of the bowls had the bread sank under the soup with no visible cheese on top, and again the server got extremely defensive when we first asked where was the bread and cheese in our soup was. She rudely said “it’s in the soup” It should never have been at the bottom of the bowl. We had two lobster bisques that were served cold, and when we asked to have them reheated they brought us back another set of 2 cold soups with a terrible excuse that they were plated incorrectly. Our server had an attitude with us the entire time that made the dining experience unpleasant and uncomfortable. Our server also waited over an hour to take our full order, they brought us our appetizers and then over 30 min went by and we had to chase down the server to have them finally take our entree orders. The tomato and burrata salad was extremely odd, it tasted of curry which is not expected for a tomato and burrata salad. I would never recommend that dish to anyone with tastebuds. The pork chop entree was also bad, it had way too much garlic and both people at our table couldn’t and wouldn’t finish theirs. The rest of the entrees ordered were extremely mediocre for the caliber of restaurant this is supposed to be and the price attached. I would never come back to this restaurant purely based on the terribly passive aggressive service we received, and it doesn’t help the food was not redeeming at all. I will be taking my business elsewhere the next time I...
Read moreLocal friends raved about the oysters so I just had to check this establishment out--and I was not disappointed. I've shamelessly indulged on nearly two dozen oysters, always a mix of all three available, and they are deliciously, consistently on point. Other dishes I've enjoyed were given with perfectly minimal layers of flavor and textures, very true to a modern take on such a beloved cuisine. This season's offerings are decadent and beautifully presented. Burrata was elevated with beets, thinly sliced peaches, a basil emulsion and drizzle of balsamic and cracked pepper. The Duck Confit Cavatelli with Porcini Mushroom was everything you'd expect from an earthy dish, with a very slight tang for a tremendous mouthfeel. I ordered my salmon as "somewhere in between rare and medium rare" and it was plated as such. I finally went back for the Squash Blossom Beignets served with (good lord) goat cheese fondue and a drizzle of a bright and zesty tomato basil sauce--this is what summer tastes like.
Boasting an impressive and eclectic wine list, the offerings do not end at the printed list. Louis is spot on with his wine recommendations and is the consummate host. I have often avoided Burgundy's as from my experience they have been too soft. (I like a big wine) No matter anymore, as he turned me into a seeker of great Burgundy's that meet the palate with care and high expectations.
Ambiance is subtly refined and cozy. From watching the staff and host, one and all could feel comfortable and confident that each experience is memorable and worth...
Read moreSanta Fe is full of good restaurants and great restaurants but if only one downtown Santa Fe restaurant survives the Zombie Apocalypse I hope it’s 315. Needless to say, this is one of our go-tos for SF fine dining, especially for out-of-town visitors. It’s popular with both locals and visitors, and for the latter it’s within walking distance of everything downtown. If it’s just the two of us we choose one of the bar’s hightops, or the wine-centric bar itself. Inside you’ll find several charming small rooms. It’s like dining in someone’s home. Wait, that’s exactly what it is because this WAS once someone’s home. Outside are patio tables along the front and along the side, inside the wall. The friendly and welcoming owner has offered an excellent, seasonal, creative, and perfectly-executed menu for many years. The new younger co-owner is dedicated to continuing the tradition for many years to come. The service is always top notch. A new part of the menu is the Fish House menu (well, it’s either new or I never looked on the back), which offers many seafood options. On our most recent visit we enjoyed the seared foie gras, mussels, seafood stew, Softshell crab, stuffed squash blossoms, and chocolate banana dessert. And a tip about the fries. They have two kinds, one of which is shoestring-thin, the other thicker. I love the thin ones, which can be substituted in the dishes that normally come with the thick ones. We’ll...
