My wife and I waited for a long time to dine (nearly an hour). Because there was no paging system regarding when our name was up, we had to take turns standing around, waiting to be seated.
It was a nice enough day to do some of our waiting outside but we had no way to know when we were up to be seated. When we finally were, the chairs were uncomfortable. If you're smaller, I'm sure they would be fine ... but I am not particularly small so I was left with one of the bars pressing pretty hard into my back.
But it was worth every bit of discomfort.
First off, our server, Brie, was quick to get us everything we needed. Inside 3 minutes of being seated, for instance, we already had the drinks we had ordered.
Then there's the food. We ordered salads and some pizza. This was a mistake. Their "petite" salads are still MASSIVE! Their cherry vinaigrette is a great choice on taste but don't plan on eating too much pizza if you get any salad. We could easily have split both a petite salad and a pizza and still had some left over.
Speaking of pizza, their red sauce is awesome! It's seasoned just right. I took my time savoring the pizza I did have but I didn't get even close to finishing. It gave me a chance to enjoy the atmosphere.
Because we came in near the end of the day, the music selection had turned towards an alternative/indie rock selection. I heard lots of Green Day, Nirvana, Offspring, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and a slew of others. I'd look around and there were tons of other people jamming out while talking with their friends.
When we were done, we enjoyed the food so much, we ended up buying some of their pizza sauce and a bottle of their cherry vinaigrette. My wife enjoyed the EXPERIENCE enough to buy a little button to go in her collection.
Sure, getting in may have been rough but every other part of my experience made it totally worth the wait and the mild discomfort with the chair. I'll be coming back to Wild Tomato whenever I come back into town. Hopefully, they're able to add a notification system of some...
Read moreDined here a couple nights ago for dinner with the family. We arrived around 5pm and were able to be seated right away on the back patio. Staff were very fast; they brought out a high chair right away and drinks were quick once we ordered. Location is in a perfect spot! Right in the downtown of Sister Bay, across the parking lot from the Sister Bay beach/park area. When we left, we were easily able to walk out the back and head to the park with the two littles right after dinner. Could not have asked for a more prime spot! The reason for the 4 stars is how you order the pizza. We asked if we could do 3/4 of a specialty and then 1/4 plain cheese, since our toddler will only eat a slice or two of cheese. We were told it had to be half and half. No problem! So we ordered half veggie and half cheese. We ended up getting 1/4 veggie and 3/4 cheese and paid for a large specialty veggie pizza. It is on us for not saying something, but we did not want to make a stink at the restaurant. The veggie pieces were very good! Wish we could have had more slices! We also asked if we could have a plain kids cheese pizza (the “kids pizza” on their menu is a pb and j pizza, which the server told us is not very good). We were just really surprised that we were at a pizza place and a plain kids cheese pizza wasn’t even an option on the menu. We had their assorted bread basket (which came with different breads and cheeses, and 3 dipping sauces). That was amazing!! Even our 3 year old loved that. The other reason for the 4 star was the bathroom situation. My husband had tried to use the men’s room a couple times, but there is apparently only one stall in the bathroom and there was always a line. Wasn’t too big of an issue, he easily walked to the park and used that bathroom instead. For how big of a space Wild Tomato is, and how busy they are, you would think they would add another stall or something in the men’s room. Overall it was a good experience. I would probably try pizza at another location before going back, just given how they do...
Read moreMy husband and I were in Door County for the weekend and wanted to take our friends to Wild Tomato in sister bay as we rave about this place. They had shared they had a poor experience here prior and we were convinced they could get redemption tonight, but boy, we were wrong. We walked in around 5:30 pm and were told it would be an 1 - 1 hr 15 min wait. We were happy to get our name on the list. We then walked to the bar area and decided to stand out of the way in the corner (left side of bar) hoping to be out of the way. After 10 minutes we still had not been acknowledged over there. However, on the other side of the bar where all the foot traffic was, there was about 8 people that had gotten drinks over there, even though it was very crowded. After 10 minutes we moved over there thinking we were in the wrong spot initially. We waited in line trying to stay out of the way, as best we could. After about 5 minutes of standing in line, we were next in line after another couple had gotten drinks right before us. One of the bartenders/servers looked at us walking by and said, “you guys need to back up and until the room clears.” I said, “oh, how do we get a drink?” as I was really confused. She then stated, “you need to be outside this room, until we can serve you.” So we moved into the entrance waiting room as she rudely demanded we get out of the way, even though now we weren’t even near the bar. I don’t know how you get a drink from the bar if you aren’t even in the room where the bar is. I would like to add that when we were still waiting on the left side of the bar, this same woman walked through the crowd and asked a group, “are you all waiting on drinks? Let me get those for you.” Needless to say, we went to wait an hour at Husby’s instead, as she was so disrespectful and rude. We will not be coming back for a long time, especially if she is working there. I’d like to add, we all understand businesses are short staffed, but you can still treat humans with respect while they are...
