On our entire trip through New England this was the best place we stayed and I wish we had stayed here for more nights than our other place in Stowe. Front desk staff were excellent although directions we were given to an apple orchard took us way out of the way up the mountain to someone's personal house. ||We came in early enough hoping to get breakfast but they wouldn't serve it to us the first day. They told us to sit in the parlor to wait and they would have lunch. But what they didn't say was lunch was downstairs and a line started there. We figured this out on our own luckily so there weren't too many people in front of us. People came in after us and walked right in front of us and no one did anything. The food was very good. The Starr (a club sandwich) was excellent. Service was pretty subpar but at least the guy smiled.||We went back for dinner. And once again the food was excellent. Husband ordered the corn chowder but was brought the soup du jour. He's pretty easy to please and said he liked it so we left it alone. My dinner was also very good.||I had the Vermont Cheddar Omelet the next morning and it was excellent which is a lot for me to say because I very rarely eat omelets. I would do that again. This time; however, our server was so bad we left no tip and said something to the front desk. He did not check on us, did not chat with us (he did with other tables), didn't smile; nothing. I never don't leave a tip, but he deserved nothing it was so bad.||There is plenty of parking and it is right downtown making it very convenient. The building maintenance people to the front desk gentleman who helped us with our luggage (there were no elevators in the building where we stayed) were outstanding.||The bed was the most comfortable bed we stayed in the whole trip in New England. There was a jacuzzi tub in the main bedroom so I could keep watching my movie. The rooms were extremely large (and there were two). The only concern I had was that there seemed to be some residue in the tub that I thought came from the jets, but later learned that this is an issue with iron in the water in the town.||I would go back to Stowe just to stay at this Inn again, and eat the food which...
Read moreMy family and i have been coming to the GMI 2 to 3 times a year since 2000 ! Yes that's 25 years and counting,,, I can honestly say that we've never had a visit that disappointed us. Our 2 daughters were only 9 and 11 when we first started coming here and have amazing life long memories of Stowe and the GMI. So much so , that they now come every year with there young families .
The Inn is always clean and well kept ( If not,, they get on it right away ) Gardeners , painters and maintenance people are constantly working on the property and are extremely polite. The staff at the front desk are always warm and welcoming and go out of there way to assist you if something goes wrong or if you need advise on local activities . The Breakfast at the Inn is better then any restaurant in the area , so no need to go out. Dinner at the Inn ( The Whip ) is also highly recommended .
The pool and Jacuzzi are very well maintained and very inviting . Surrounded by greenery and mountains . Perfect after a hike ,, which Stowe has many of. ( From Beginners to Advanced )
The Rec. path is a stunning bike and walking path that winds its way up the mountain ( Apprx. 5 miles ) Which starts behind the Church in town ( Across from the GMI ) Very easy access for GMI guests . The path will take you along the river , crossing over it many times on pretty pedestrian bridges ,, behind coffee shops and restaurants if you want to take a break ( Many equipped with bike racks , and cozy fire pits ) past a cute pet petting corral ( Seasonal ) if you're bringing your young children the will love it.
The area has amazing events and places to visit ,, too many to mention , but a few that you may want to check out are ; Hot air balloon rides ( July ) , Cold Hollow Cider Mill ( Amazing for lunch or snacks ) Many free field concerts ( Too many to post) , The Alchemist Craft Brewery !! Bingham Falls !! Sterling Gorge Falls !! Great hikes inc. Pinnacle , Fire Tower Trail , Moss Glen Trail.
You will never regret booking a stay at the GMI ,, i guaranty that you will return year after year like we do !

Read moreOverall- We won't be back, unless changes are made. We ended up staying in two different rooms due to a maintenance issue. The staff was very friendly, but there doesn't seem to be a protocol for when there's an issue with a room. Our heat valve was broken in the on position, resulting in the room being in the 80s/high 70s with the window open. The room is inspected by management before check-in, and they deemed this passable. We had a miserable first night hearing trucks from the open window, the fridge was buzzing all night, and the temps never got below 74. We had to keep going back to the lobby and no one seemed to know what was going on. Maintenance reported that the room was unable to be serviced while occupied. Thankfully the apparent suit was not booked, so they moved us to this room. The fridge was noisy in this room too, even when adjusting temps. The website also stated that a microwave would be provided if requested, this means the lobby staff would reheat it for you. We stayed here during a very busy tourist time. Traffic is insane in Stowe and this inn is right at the heart of it. [There are a lot of people stopping in the road to take pictures and trespassing on private homes (literally next to signs). Please be respectful.] The inn, itself, was lovely and offered refreshments at 4pm with cozy lounge areas to relax. The spa/pool area was well-kept and offered nice amenities. However, both room types felt like poor value for the price and are in need of a refresh.
