I have mixed feelings on Black Cap. I want to support local businesses, and the folks there are very nice, but they are under prepared for the volume of customers. I went with a friend at lunchtime and got a dirty chai, Funky Monkey Latte, Sophia Loren sandwich, and chicken salad sandwich. My first frustration is that there are no prices on the boards (see pics), which is always super sketchy. Then, my sandwich and coffee (pics again) were $32 after a %20 tip. I felt so bad for the woman on espresso duty because she couldn't catch a break. She was hauling, but the cups were stacked against her. At any time she had 10 drinks ahead of her. It took us 30 min to get food and coffee, and my friends coffee didn't have flavor. Again, I don't blame the woman on drink duty, she needed 2 more people helping, but I asked and they aren't hiring. I hope these folks are getting paid well over min wage, because they're doing the work. I suspect management is what needs fixing, rather than the folks doing the work.

I adore this place. I've never had a favorite bakery before, but Black Cap is so far my favorite bakery in life! I'm usually a chocolate person, but their raspberry cream horns are so good that that might be my new favorite pastry! Every treat I tried I was like "woah, this could be served at a wedding". Also their atmosphere is friendly and chill, the staff seemed happy while working which hopefully means the staff are treated well. One of the staff was so sweet and drew me a Totoro on our pastry box because we were chatting about Ghibli movies! Def gonna bring the fam here sometime. See y'all again, thanks đŸ˜đŸŒˆđŸ„đŸ« Pricewise: I had a $7 iced oat matcha drink, and $5-7 per pastry I think. Worth the money for me! Favorites were raspberry cream horn in top right of photo, the berry cupcake I had, cannoli. Even the lemon tart was good and I'm not a lemon person 👍

//UPDATE That's all right I do not want my email to be public. I called the store once again and spoke with Leea. She helped clarify the situation. I am however extremely disappointed in the customer service and responsiveness of Black Cap. I was told a new location is opening up and that's where all resources and attention have been directed unfortunately leading to below acceptable service at other locations. Definitely will not be returning here again, after wasting 2 months trying to get a hold of someone. // We ordered a maple latte, and felt you couldn't really taste the maple. Also an almond joy latte which was really nice. We noticed we were over charged after we left Stowe, I tried contacting them by email and phone and nobody has gotten back to me for weeks. This left a sour taste for the joint.

This could have been an amazing experience but there are so many wrong things.

I’m gonna start with the big line. We waited 20 minutes to get to the cashier. They were busy so it’s not their fault, but they could use another pair of hands or a better POS.

After that, when you make the payment they add a bunch of fees and a service fee and then ask you for tips. So my order was $80 and then it bumped to $107 with just fees and service.

This is for the owners: please get the front desk girl a system where the orders can go to the kitchen and the barista! That poor kid has to take the orders by hand in a paper and then has to walk to the kitchen for the food orders and to the coffee station for the coffee orders. This just makes everything slower!

We had to wait 45 minutes for our food! For breakfast sandwiches? Like this doesn’t make sense. They were busy but still 45 minutes is not concebible. I can only imagine that if the front desk system is completely archaic by hand, my thoughts are that the owners don’t make it easier for the kitchen staff either. They just have to prepare sandwiches. It can’t be that difficult. I ordered desserts and coffees, and they gave them to me as soon as I made the order. So we had dessert and 45 minutes later we had our food (?) with no drinks already because we had already drank them. It just doesn’t make sense.

Then they advertised each sandwich came with chips, and they gave me a bag of popcorn. I specifically asked when I placed my order if it came with fries and they said it came with chips. Popcorn is not chips. I didn’t eat them, I threw them away.

Other than the 45 minutes wait, the hidden fees, the switch of sides, the staff is really nice and the food was really good.

Owners, PLEASE make this experience easier for your staff and for your visitors. I would love to comeback for the food but you totally lost a customer just because of...

The good- Cool place, nice people, decent food.

The bad- Ridiculously slow and expensive.

I went here during the day before and it took forever so this morning I went at 7:00A when they first opened to try to get in and out quickly. There was only one couple ahead of me. It took over a half hour to get my drinks and one breakfast sandwich. If they were slammed then that wait would be reasonable but like I said I was the second order of the day. In comparison, in Maine I have a local diner that I frequent. It is usually very busy and short staffed but but I still have my food within 15 mins and my whole breakfast with coffee is like $12.00 and it's all cooked fresh.

I bought one breakfast sandwich, three medium matcha teas, and a small milk chocolate and it came to $45. Teas were lukewarm and the sandwich was pre-made heated up with a paninni press. I'm not some cheapskate and rarely complain. I don't mind spending some money and leaving a good tip if I'm getting something good.

I own a small business in the service sector. From one business owner to another, if you're going to charge top dollar then you need to provide top notch services and products. If you are going to be mediocre that's fine, but you'd better have low prices. If your breakfast sandwiches take a long time maybe you should have a big sign to warn people. If I knew I would have just got a pastry instead and been perfectly fine with that...

Love Black Cap and have been stopping by every time in Stowe, mostly for coffee but this time for lunch. This is where things have gone off... ordered a sandwich, the recipe looked fabulous but I asked to add avocado. No problem there, paid extra charge and took a seat in anticipations. Next I take a few bites off a sandwich and taste that smth is missing. Sure enough it’s avocado. A bit unprofessional but not a big deal. Came up to the cook, explained the issue and got back “no problem, we will remake the sandwich”. Life is good again. Well, not so fast. The girl literally took the left over sandwich, opened it, added avocado and then re-grilled it... whoa! Did not see this coming! First off deli, bacon and cheese sticking out of the sandwich got very dry, bread got extra crunchy and dry. And finally, I get it you are the cook making the sandwich in the first place, but to reopen it, poke around, put back together and hand it back to the customer? Just feels wrong and definitely is unprofessional. Sorry Black Cap, love your coffee but will go some place...
