Tough review. If this was based on food alone, I would have to say this place is simply brilliant, serving some of the best dishes I've had in recent memory. A 5 Star meal worth every penny. And, we were told when we were seated that they were having some issues with the Internet, having to close out checks using a hot spot. Not a big deal from our perspective. This may have caused a hiccup in their quality service that they were just not able to get passed. We were seated at our reservation time and 10 minutes in were asked for our drink order. We informed our server that we could also order our food. We ordered a bottle of wine, two appetizers, a salad and two main dishes. Then we didn't see our server again until the 35 minutes mark when we asked someone to find her. We cancelled our bottle of wine ($145) and requested two ciders ($16), hoping they could be a faster option. They arrived within 5 minutes. The atmosphere was one of chaos. It seemed the kitchen was calm and collected, not aware that the rest of the staff seemed to rush by tables without a glance. They seemed to be running to catch up to something. And our server was decidedly absent for the remainder of our meal. Then the food arrives. Pure brilliance. Flavors balanced. Textures and execution are masterful. The garlic and Parmesan souffle with basil cream is a flawless version of the classic dish. Amazingly tender and fluffy with hints of salt from the cheese. The blistered shishito peppers were expertly prepared with a mint creme fraiche. Such a simple dish elevated to the next level. The Jamie's on Grain salad was sheer genius. The cranberry add a little sweetness while the maple vinaigrette adds a beautiful element of acid. Crunch of the pumpkin seeds and the tender pieces of sweet potatoes create a texture balance that was appreciated. The veggie burger was delicious! Delectable. Grilled pork tenderloin was surprisingly savory considering the sweet potato, brown butter and grilled peaches. Pork was tender and juicy. The peaches were a star here, adding a little sweet/tart element to balance everything out. Our server swung by as we were finished and asked how everything tasted... While our empty plates sat on the table for several more minutes, we flagged down a woman that took our plates, wipes our table and offered us dessert menus. She didn't appear to be a server and was the only calming element in front of house. We ordered the peanut butter cup. And this is the right decision! Might be the best I've had. We had a couple of glasses of port and then checked out. The bill process being super quick and simple. Could have just been an off night for service. I will say that the couple of times we talked with her, she was super delightful. Just lacking the same quality of service as we had with the food. Hit-and-miss. Food might get me back, but everything else makes this a one-and-done.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am writing this review from Plate, nestled in the picture-perfect mountains of Stowe, Vermont, a place that harmoniously blends culinary delight with stunning natural beauty. From the moment I entered, it was as if I was wrapped in a warm hug of charming rustic elegance. The maestro behind the bar, Brian, exhibits a level of mixology that is akin to an art form. He is the Michelangelo of Margaritas, the Da Vinci of Daiquiris, delivering each cocktail with a balance of flavors that dances on the palate. An encounter with him and his finely curated list of libations was a show in itself, adding an extra dash of merriment to the whole experience. The menu at Plate sings a symphony of vibrant local flavors, each dish a testament to the heart and soul of Vermont. The seasonally driven cuisine reflects the bounty of the surrounding landscape and takes you on a gastronomic journey that you’d be hard-pressed to forget. The ambiance is an enchanting blend of cozy meets chic. The décor pays homage to the beautiful mountains just outside its windows, providing a picture-frame view of Stowe’s majestic peaks. It’s a remarkable place where the food and surroundings compete for your attention, and both win! In all, Plate has offered an experience that is less of a meal and more of an event. It’s a jewel tucked away in the mountains of Vermont, a place that marries the aesthetic of the landscape with a culinary offering that is every bit its equal. A must-visit for food and nature lovers alike! Brian and the rest of the team have indeed crafted a haven that’s sure to satisfy your stomach and soul. I couldn’t be happier to be here!

Doubt we will return. What? What did you say? I said we won’t go back because we couldn’t hear each other over the noise and a couple of very loud patrons. Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to try Plate. Given the need for reservations and prices, we were expecting elevated dining. The restaurant is small with maybe a dozen tables and about equal amount of bar space. Everyone was dressed very casually favoring plaid shirts and blue jeans. The menu is limited. The fried oysters tasted like a hush puppies and none of us could see or taste an oyster. The sushi tuna salad – who cut this tuna? I’m quite sure a 5 year old with a dull knife could do a better job (see photo). The pasta tasted homemade and was served topped with large shaved pieces of parmesan – artsy but I would have preferred parmesan be freshly grated at the table. I enjoyed the pasta but my friend did not like it at all. The strip steak was tasty and cooked perfectly – as far as steaks go, it was good but definitely not one of those truly great steaks. The arepas just sat there on the plate looking completely out of place – it seemed like they were added to be able to claim it was fusion. We were really looking forward to the pan fried potatoes but they were mushy – nothing crispy about them. With only 4 stalks, grilled broccolini was a battle to grab and I lost but I was told they were amazing. We were very pleased that we were able to get ample water and drinks. Overall the service was good and attentive but not very friendly. But none of that matters if it’s so noisy that you can’t hear each other!

During our family outing, we stumbled upon a restaurant that appeared to be quite appealing from the outside. Intrigued, we decided to give it a try. However, as soon as we entered, we sensed some discontent from the staff, although they didn't express it verbally. It became clear later on that they were not fond of walk-in customers, but we were unaware of this at the time.

We requested a high-top table near the windows, but were promptly informed that it had been reserved. It seemed improbable to us that a specific table in an empty restaurant would be reserved hours in advance, but we understood that every business has its own practices. We asked for an alternative table near the window, to which they reluctantly seated us after attempting to put us all the way in the back near the kitchen, again, despite the restaurant being empty mind you. For the record, They didn't mention anything about this table also being reserved or any time constraints for our dining experience.

Once seated, our waitress greeted us politely and took our drink orders. We were relaxed and enjoying ourselves until she returned and seemed surprised that we hadn't considered ordering any food yet. We promptly placed our food order, and this was the only instance where the server's demeanor was less than professional. I couldn't help but feel a bit awkward, as if we didn't belong there if we were only planning to have drinks with our family.

After that initial hiccup, the service became impeccable. The bartender even engaged us in pleasant conversation, adding to our enjoyment of the evening. However, the waitress reluctantly approached us later on to inform us that there had been a prior reservation for our table. This information was not communicated to us at any point during our stay. It was requested that we settle our bill within the next 10 minutes, which left us feeling dissatisfied. Being rushed out of a restaurant, especially when there were plenty of available seats, was a new and unpleasant experience for us. We felt that they could have easily seated the other party near the kitchen, as they had initially planned to do with us.

Nonetheless, since we were nearing the end of our meal and drinks, we had no issue accommodating their request within a reasonable timeframe. I left a generous tip of around 25% for our server and the bartender, appreciating the service they had provided. However, the owner abruptly appeared with a printed copy of the bill, demanding that we vacate the table so that another group could be seated. Her approach was forceful and somewhat rude, despite us never exhibiting any rudeness towards her.

As a result, we had to gather in a group near the restroom hallway while my daughter used the facilities, as we had no designated waiting area like our own table. During this time, we encountered the party waiting for our table. We engaged in polite conversation and shared some light-hearted jokes about the strict policy of needing to vacate the restaurant within a certain timeframe due to other reservations. It was simply meant as a lighthearted jest, and we never intended to be disrespectful, especially to a party that had no involvement in our abrupt request to leave. Contrary to what the owner may claim, there was no rude behavior, vulgar language, or offensive gestures. I am disheartened that the owner would stoop so low as to fabricate such accusations in order to maintain a positive image in reviews. Such dishonesty is beneath any establishment in which I would choose to dine. Despite the unfortunate behavior of the owners and hostesses, the restaurant itself has many positive aspects. However, due to our overall experience, I can only give it a...
