Nice new hotel but a huge flaw I’m a frequent business traveler who has been loyal to Hilton for several decades. This frequent travel allows me to sample many different Hilton hotels and locations. The “new” SPARK brand is very nice but suffers the same flaw many of the other newer ‘economy’ Hilton hotels share. First, lets start with the good. This is a modern hotel theme that I believe is trying to fit just under the Hampton line of hotels for value for the money. Being a new hotel, it is clean and most everything works. It has a nice pool and the hotel staff are friendly (Erie PA location). Now the bad. There are two major flaws and one ‘pet peeve’. The biggest issue is the lack of sound isolation overall. This is between rooms, between floors, from the hallway, and external. These modern ‘stick-built’ ‘pre-fab’ hotels are likely inexpensive to build but the sound isolation is terrible. I suffer from hearing loss and rely on hearing aids but even without my hearing aids in, I can hear every conversation in adjacent rooms, hallway, and even the floor above me. Folks walking on the floor above me sounds like I’m track-side at a horse race. You also get to hear and experience every toilet event and flush from other rooms. In addition, being able to clearly hear my neighbors TV and conversations gives me a coffee shop type atmosphere in my own room. The second flaw is in the room HVAC unit. It is the outside wall mounted unit that has the typical intermittent broken fan. The best way I can describe it is to compare it to a lawn mower that is operated by a teenager hitting branches and the occasional dog toys while mowing. A loud constant fan noise with intermittent sounds of what can be described as violent chopping or breaking sounds followed by the sound of water being sloshed around. The final pet peeve is the lack of general customer service. Upon check-in there was no acknowledgment of diamond status, no post arrival text message asking how everything is. No explanation of any of the hotel services such as when breakfast is, where the pool is, where the elevators are, when is checkout. Nothing. Just here are your keys and best of luck to you. Even after the shift change and new staff working the front desk are distant. I walked up to ask for a water and the person was not engaging. For this I blame local hotel management for lack of training of personal. Owners and managers seem to easily forget that the staff that greats the customer is the PR face of your business. Overall, I will continue to frequent this Hilton brand but only when Hamptons and other Hilton brands are...
Read moreThis was a bad experience and not up to Hilton standards. The quality was lacking. In general, the location is good. Reserving and getting the rooms (I had 3) was easy. The folks on the phone were nice and knowledgeable. The good experience ended there. When I arrived and checked in, the desk person acted as if she couldn't be bothered. She didn't explain that an additional $40 was charged in advance per room. I found this after I reviewed the charges when I got upstairs. Two of the 3 rooms were lacking essential items. Only a single set of towels for 2 guests and minor things. The 3rd room did not have the bathroom attended to. It wasn't cleaned at all. And unfortunately, a previous guest had gotten sick in the bathroom -- both directions. It was reported, but we were told there was nothing that could be done. There was no cleaning staff and they didn't have a key to the cleaning supplies. We had to go to Walmart and clean the bathroom ourselves. We were told that this would be reported to the manager on Sunday morning. When I spoke to the front desk in the morning. Nothing had been reported. I spoke to the manager, who showed no interest in what happened or in making it right. I had to ask for some sort of credit for having to take care of the cleaning in one room. She said that a discount for one of the rooms would be applied in a few days after checkout. I waited a week; it was not. It's not even worth mentioning the poorly supplied bagel bar. Not stocked at 7am on Sunday, when people are grabbing breakfast to check out. Again, no where near the quality that belongs to Hilton brands. I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreRooms, lobby, hallway were clean. Beds are comfortable. Bathroom did not have hand soap and only 2 towels. We had a 3 night stay and had to ask for more towels. After the second night we had to ask for towels again and our trash to be taken since it had not been done. It states on signs the room will be cleaned every other day. We asked this when we left at 5pm. When we returned at 10pm, it still was not done. I wasn’t asking for a full clean. I went down to the desk again for towels and a trash bag to swap out in our cans.
The other guests were rowdy. We called the desk to ask if the room above us could stop running and jumping after hours of tolerating it into the night. No answer. I then texted the Hilton honors number. No reply until the next morning. During the day groups of kids were playing tag in the halls and elevators. When we looked into the hall to see what was going on, a staff member just said “that’s what happens when the baseball kids are here”, and laughed. There were large drinking parties in the parking lot, which I’m not against if it wasn’t super loud outside our windows. At one point there was a group of people outside of our room having a conversation with vulgar language so loud I stepped out(child in our room). I was surprised to see it was all staff members.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews but there were just too many things this time. When we called and talked to the hotel or tried to address anything, we were just blown off so I’m putting it here. Staffing ruined an otherwise pretty...
