The hotel's location is great. It is located in the heart of downtown Tampa with wonderful views of the Riverwalk and surrounding areas. Close to great restaurants and shopping. The staff was ok, some were friendly and nice, some were not. I was most sorely disappointed with the cleanliness of the room at check in. The bathroom floor was filthy, not even swept, and God knows what was in the carpet. The toilet was also not clean, the shower was moldy, the bathroom sink was mucky, the faucet and mirror had not even been wiped clean. It was like the prior guests left and all the hotel staff did was change the bedding. It was gross. I called for room service/housekeeping only to find out that the hotel's policy was not to enter guests' rooms for the duration of the stay, which meant there was absolutely no room service/housekeeping to be had for my 5 night stay. I had to go and purchase cleaning supplies and clean the room myself so that it could be habitable for my family. Someone at the front desk told me the no cleaning policy was due to Covid, which I found ironic since guests weren't even required to wear masks. The only concession the hotel made was to give us fresh towels and linens upon request. It was nasty. I am never going back unless they change that no cleaning policy. The beautiful views and convenient location are not worth it. The other issue I had was the Saturday night partiers. At 2am on the Saturday night of our stay, we were all awakened by the most ungodly drunken screeching right outside our door. We thought it was someone passing by, so we ignored it at first. But then the person seemed to get comfortable and carried on yelling down the hallway at someone else. This went on for several minutes before I gave up waiting for the banshee to go away and called the front desk. Whoever picked up the phone was a bit snarky at first, but thankfully must have done something because the noise stopped. Only to resume about half an hour later, from in the room next to mine. Apparently the banshee was my neighbor. He/she had the most ungodly, rasping, fingernails-on-chalkboard screech, but thankfully was quiet after about 10 minutes or so. We didn't have anymore noise...

If I were to come back to Tampa, I’d stay at the Barrymore again - was a phenomenal experience from beginning to end. The staff all around were sweet, and very helpful. Not a bad attitude in sight. Everything was clean, up to par, super comfortable beds/bedding, the bathroom was beautiful and so was the riverfront view. The reviews about it being outdated strike me a little weird because yes, there is a lot that is considered “old/outdated” but I think that’s what gives it its charm, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. The hallway carpet gave me “the shining” vibes (which is not a complaint lol) and I LOVED all of the art scattered throughout the hotel. The lobby was exceptionally beautiful. I was a big fan of the pool, I’m very allergic to chlorine/bleach/ammonia so most places I stay at, I can’t swim in the pools due to being highly/over chlorinated — I’m not sure if this was a salt or chlorine pool, I’m leaning towards salt because I was able to sit in the pool and by the pool for hours and not a single whiff of chlorine or a hospital trip and that’s a victory for me and thankful for that! The John Lennon statue out front was my favorite touch.
A SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO DANIELLE - the bartender. We got there rather late so we decided to try the in house restaurant/bar late nite menu and she really went above & beyond to set the tone for our trip. As a former service industry worker, I LOVE a personality that shows! I hate we didn’t get a chance to go back down there to see her before we had to head back to bham (and I hope someone brought her a MCR tee). Thank you Danielle for the wine, the great personality/conversation and for not forgetting this bama girls ranch! 🤘🏽🖤
I found that charging $6.50 for a 8oz Red Bull to be a little diabolical but I get it, and I wouldn’t dock any points away over it. That’s literally my only Charlie Brown “wahhhh” thought...
Read moreI have stayed at this hotel ever since the Hilton DoubleTree on West Shore Boulevard was demolished several years ago. I come down from Tallahassee about a dozen times a year for the Bucs/Rays/Lightning games all year round. I especially come in April when it’s my birthday with my kids, family and friends. This April I suffered an injury and wasn’t able to come down but had a room booked. By the time I left the hospital it was after my reservation was made unfortunately. I called when I was released and saw my card had been charged for over $300. I tried to work it out but they didn’t seem to care and told me if I sent a copy of my medical report showing my time there, they would consider a refund. I was going to oblige them but the operator told me that a refund wasn’t automatic, that they would consider it. I’m a military veteran who has stayed at this hotel for dozens of times the last few years and I stay for 2-3 night each and sometimes with multiple rooms booked together. I decided to tell them to keep my money and that they’ve lost a loyal customer and that I’ll find a new place to state when income down. I’ve never written a bad review before and I feel bad now because I truly loved this place. The front desk people have always been amazing to me, I always got rooms facing the Riverwalk which I have pics all on my FB from my room window, I eat at their restaurant and my family and friends drink at their bar. I use their shuttle service and it’s been a place that has slowly won me over from losing my find memories of from the DoubleTree that had Charlie’s Steak House next door. I even stayed when the place was booked with college students and they were loud, annoying and all over the place and in the way but my loyalty kept me coming back because of all the aforementioned reasons. I figured I had a new Tampa home until this place was demolished or I passed away but it seems I’ll have to find another because a $300+ reimbursement was more than what they feel I’m worth, Sad to...
