I normally hate leaving bad reviews, but here goes -
We received a free two night voucher for Christmas of 2023 from family that lives in the Tampa area. We were so excited to visit this hotel, as it had been a part of a tour that we did the previous year on the history of Tampa. I will just start from the beginning -
Planning our trip started two months before we left. Since it was a voucher, I had to go through sales. I could never get a hold of anyone. Left phone calls, emails, and when someone did respond, they were less than enthused to help. It took three weeks to get our reservation confirmed.
Hurricane Milton - this one was out of our control. We decided the Saturday before Milton hit that it would be best to move our vacation to the following week. I called the hotel and asked if it was possible to move our dates to October 15-17. I spoke with someone from the sales team, who informed me that my request wasn't necessary, as they would likely not be affected by the hurricane and that it would be in my best interest to just keep my current reservation, but I still requested the movement of dates, and she was less than thrilled to do so.
Checking In & Parking - I had a voucher for a two night stay that I needed to give to them. I was told that I would incur a $200 incidental fee. I was not told about this charge in the process of making my reservation so I was surprised. I asked about parking and was told that I could pay the $40 valet, pay $3 an hour for street parking around the hotel upon availability, or use the Sacred Heart parking garage, which was $20 per day. We drove down to the parking garage, only to find that it was unavailable due to construction. We were also given a $30 voucher for the bar. We were also informed at check in, that due to construction, we would not be able to use any water for the next hour, which seemed reasonable, but that leads to my next issue.
The Room - The room itself was very nice. We enjoyed the aesthetic of the room and the amenities it offered. After two hours of no water, we left for our evening plans, hoping that the water would be back on. Three hours later, we returned, to still no water. Woke up the next morning at 6am, still no water. I called the front desk and they informed me that there was no direct timeline on the return of water but that they would comp my upcoming night, and I informed them that it was already free, and they said that there was nothing they could do. We returned from our afternoon plans, to water being back on. However, there was no hot water. We ran the shower and the faucet for 10 minutes - no luck. I informed the front desk and they told me that there was a trick, which was running both at the same time for extended periods of time, which I told them I did. They offered maintenance, which I accepted. They did tell me that I would have to wait for him so he could show me "the trick" to get it to work. I was not postponing my plans to wait, but luckily, I came back to hot water, with less than 12 hours til checkout.
Checking Out - I went to go check out, and they asked if I had been informed about the Destination Fee, and I said no. And she told me that they were waiving it anyway due to the lack of water during our stay. I find out later that that fee covers our "complimentary" $30 bar voucher and the free water bottles in our room.
We were hesitant to talk to our family about this, as they were the ones who paid and won this stay at a local school auction. We didn't want them to feel guilty and we wanted to chalk all of this up to bad timing and luck. Our family was understanding of our frustration and shared in it with us. For the foreseeable future, none of us would recommend this...
Read moreFirst time at this hotel, upon arrival on Feb 12 we went to checkin and the lady behind the counter was on the phone speaking with someone, she looked annoyed and not happy, she was short and dry. She eventually made eye contact, all she said was “can i help you”. What i wanted to hear was Welcome to The Flor , how are you today, how was your travels, what brings you to Tampa..: none of that, did not feel welcome. We checked room 912 (9th floor), room was nice and clean nothing special, the view was awful, the noise was awful during the day from construction and housekeeping crew and at night from non stop street noise. When i booked the hotel i asked for a higher floor room with a city view, none of that was granted. Later that day we received a text from Akshay welcoming us which was nice and asked if we need any help. I texted back asking about transportation options other the Uber like shuttle and Taxi and places we wanted to visit. He never bothered to reply. We went downstairs later that day and asked the same in person, all he replied was “sorry we dont call any taxi for you and our shuttle only take you 3 miles radius” when we showed him where we have dinner reservations he said no the shuttle will not take you. I told him we are not from US and would appreciate some help and guidance. All he said was sorry you have to get your own transportation where you want to go. The next morning, i received a reply from your concierge name CARMEN , super friendly, very detailed and when we went downstairs and spoke with her in person she was very pleasant, helpful and showed genuine care. We also had the pleasure using the shuttle, the drivers RYAN AND ISAIAH amazing service, great people, attentive and truly showed care about the guests. Carmen, Ryan and Isaiah are a 10, everyone else was disappointing. I want to mention the renovations and noises that were not disclosed when booking. We acknowledge the improvements and efforts put into upgrading the hotel, but your faucets and shower heads are from 1970 and dont work, It was a mission to have the shower head working and able to take a proper shower. We didnt bother saying anything as we figured nobody really cares anyway. We went to a show and dinner on feb 13 and came back to the hotel around 10:15 pm and asked the gentlemen at the reception where we can get a coffee, he said there is nothing around here to get coffee. The next day we walked around there is a Starbucks 2 min away from the hotel. How can a concierge to a Hilton hotel doesnt know these small things… The housekeeping, they start at around 8-830am and everyone talks loud, the knocks on other guests doors are almost disturbing and loud, they let their cell phone ringers on loud while talking among each-other. The guests maybe there on holiday and are looking forward to a late morning, a sleep-in peacefully. You can be a 5 star hotel, you can do all the upgrades and improvements in the world, if your staff are not 5 stars, the hotel will not get there. You have to coach your concierge team, everyone one i have met ( except Carmen) needs a coaching and training on customer service, going back to basics, every person that comes through your doors are guests in your home and all they need is to be treated with care, warmth, curtesy, kindness, so when they leave they will come back. Your hotel has some work to do, your team needs training on hospitality. Have them read a book called UNREASONABLE HOSPITALITY by Will Quidara, the remarkable power of giving people more than they expect , YOU WILL THANK ME LATER. My husband is a Hilton Honors member since 2018 and truly wish i could have given you a 5 star, it...
Read moreHotel Flor is excellent. I see the reviews here and a lot of people are confused or have no sense of direction. Especially the most recent reviewer where this man felt he needed to take an obscene amount of photos as if he owns the entire brand of Hilton Hotels. There is an entrance on N. Florida street with an elevator that goes right up to the lobby without having to take luggage up a flight of stairs which is the entrance he was talking about on Cass Street. I am so tired of people complaining instead of giving the positive aspects of their hotel stays and especially when it comes to this newly refurbished hotel. April and Nick at check in are professional and epitomized hospitality. The shuttle bus drivers Andre and Dwayne are simply amazing and accommodating and punctual. The rooms are spacious and clean. There was no need to clean our room daily since we are not filthy people. Daily room cleaning in general has changed since Covid so for the last reviewer (Patrick) complaining about his room not being cleaned on a daily basis-just ask, this hotel goes above and beyond to accommodate all guests. The decor all over this gorgeous hotel exude the roaring 20’s are around every corner. I love the jazz music playing everywhere, you’re made to feel like you have gone back in time. The Dan and The Flor have diverse food offerings and we also enjoyed coffee in the morning at Cass St. The Hotel Flor has bicycles that can be used to explore the city. The rooms are spacious and have air purifiers which I find to be a great touch. The external part of the hotel is continuing with the refurbishment but everything inside is immaculate. NOTE** Valet is NOT employee staff so if there is an issue with valet, voice your concerns with the hotel staff. Our family had the most incredible stay. Jennifer at The Flor was just an angel, extremely professional. We adored JJ at The Dan worked very hard catering to the entire restaurant by himself and food at both restaurants is fantastic. Side note: The chicken apple sausage is a MUST. We played Clue in a nook above the lobby overlooking the Christmas tree and honestly could not have had a more perfect time. Carmen at the front desk is also great as well as Nick, what genuine people who will go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The experience was top notch and honestly this hotel should be at least $500+ per night. I think The Floridan needs to raise their prices because I have stayed in hotels more expensive than this with less personal touches and a lot less hospitality. Hotel Flor should be the “Gold Standard”’ for all Tapestry Hotels. We will definitely come back. The absolute convenience of having a driver to shuttle us anywhere within a three mile radius was a huge BONUS! There is so much to do in the area like ride the free trolley to YBOR City. The elevators at the hotel seem to be original even adorned with penny tile so if you’re a world class traveler and understand the history of hotels, you will understand why the elevators are smaller than the newer hotels. This is what makes this hotel unique and it has its own sense of class and style. Absolutely everyone at Hotel Flor is a class act and...
