We stayed in The Apartment which has its own private entrance at the back of the Main House. Our car park allocation was only a few strides to our apartment entry. The Apartment was as advertised and filled our expectations. It is not modern, but old as part of the original home, but that was character to us, and was very clean and everything working just fine. The Apartment gave us the space and privacy wanted. Great water pressure and good hot showers. Breakfast was plenty satisfactory with homemade bagels, bread, butter, cream cheese, jams, fresh fruit, juice, hot drinks etc. You could sit around a communal breakfast table with other guests, but we chose the comfort and solitude of eating in the communal lounge. In warmer weather the option would also be to eat outside on the porch. The owner Carol was friendly and chatted with us about her life there in Lake Placid and it's history. She also gave us a couple of good recommendations of places to visit in the area. The house is old so expect some creaks from the other guests movements, so bring earplugs as we did if that bothers you. The location was excellent with about 15 minutes walk to the main centre. And just 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction was a good corner store where we bought ready-made meals. I would recommend the apartment for clean good value accommodation in...
Read moreWe stayed at the Cottage in June for a family vacation with 5 adults and it was advertised to “comfortably sleep 6”, which is not even close to true! The 2 bedrooms upstairs are VERY small with no where to put suitcases (besides the floor) and no closets to hang clothes. There is one bedroom with a queen bed that is ok and a 2nd bedroom with a queen and two bunk beds which is where my husband and I slept and my cousin took the couch downstairs. None of the doors had locks and there is an awkward fire door at the top of the bedroom stairs. The house is extremely old and creaky, so anytime anyone got up and walked or opened a door, you could hear everything. The curtains in our bedroom were very light and did nothing to block light; combine that with a hallway light that wouldn’t turn off and the bedroom was too bright to sleep. Only 1 bathroom for 6 people, which had the only mirror in the house making it difficult for all of us to get ready. Neither my husband nor I slept; I have bedbugs bite on my forearm and he swatted off something that was crawling on his forehead in the night. Plus, even though it was a “bed and breakfast”, breakfast is not included unless you stay in the main house. We booked for 2nights, only slept there for...
Read moreMy husband and I took our adult children to Lake Placid for a few days after Christmas. I booked 3 rooms at the Spruce Lodge B&B from the web. On the upside, it’s a quaint old fashioned place with clean guest rooms in the main house, a short drive to Main Street Lake Placid.||On the downside...and there is more than two...||#1.the host was emphatic that there were no pets allowed...which is a plus for those allergic...but what wasn’t stated was that the hosts have cats (yes plural) that have the run of the house. After I politely asked if the cats could stay in their quarters for our 2 day stay, the host didn’t communicate with us for the remainder of our visit.||#2. There is a very small lounge with a couch, 2 chairs and a TV for the main house guests...on our first night the front desk employee sat reading a book in the lounge making it unavailable to the paying guests....on the following evening a different employee monopolized the lounge watching ‘America’s Funniest Videos’, full volume (our room was next to the lounge.||#3. The small b in B&b..is the breakfast. Toast, cold cereal and a banana or apple. A hard boiled egg, cheeses slices or warm oatmeal would have been...
