This place is something of a hidden gem. My husband and I are consultants, and we have stayed here before when we had a contract in Lake Placid. It used to be the Northway Motel, and we always loved our stays. It is under new management, but just as nice.
We usually get one of the efficiencies when one is available, because we like cooking rather than eating out. But the regular rooms have a fridge and microwave, so we can usually get by if an efficiency isn't available. . The rooms are spotlessly clean and smell fresh, and are charmingly decorated with wooden ceilings and Adirondack decor. The beds are all comfortable, and the management is happy to provide extra pillows and blankets.
We are in Lake placid for 3 months for work, staying Monday night through Thursday, then going home on the weekends, and this solution is great for us. But the convenience to the village of Lake Placid and all the outdoor activities would make it a great place to stay for a vacation.
Daisy, the manager, is very friendly, and extremely helpful. There was one night where we couldn't get the stove to work, and when the guy couldn't come over right away to fix it, she lent us her own electric grill so we could continue to cook in the room.
WiFi works best in the rooms closest to the office - otherwise it is a bit spotty. But that is to be expected in the Adirondacks. We are generally grateful to...
Read moreWent looking for a place to stay in Lake Placid for two nights before the Ironman 70.3. cast of stated although name brand hotels in Placid but frankly was tired of them and their high prices. I decided this time to look for a local mom-and-pop Motel. I found the Northway Motel which is located near the corner of Main Street and Sentinel. It is a short walk from there to the start-finish line as well as the main drag in Placid. I was very pleased with every aspect of our stay. The owners were friendly and accommodating. Our room was just what we needed; clean with comfortable beds, air conditioning and heat(temperatures were down to 32 overnight). The price for overnight was well below what we ever paid at any locations up near the Olympic Center.||There were a few minor things that some people might not like, old or missing grout in the shower tiles, a buckled wall in the closet or the shower head that was maybe five and a half feet from the tub bottom.||For me, the cleanliness of the room, the comfort of the bed and the reasonable rate was just what we were...
Read morePros and cons: Decent affordable motel in a pretty good location walking distance from the Olympic center and the main part of town. It was easy to check in and out but didn't see any staff on site. The room was overall in good condition. The mini fridge and Keurig were nice amenities. The room smelled strongly of cleaning chemicals but we aired the room out and it was tolerable. The window AC unit took several hours to cool the bedroom down to 70. Wish they had the pool open but for the price we paid we can't complain. One of the beds we found several hairs on the sheets so not confident the sheets had been changed. The far side of the parking lot has a huge rut if you pull in near the dumpster so be careful! There was plenty of parking available. Overall a decent, affordable motel to stay in with a good location. I would probably give it 4.5 stars if I could but being generous I'm...
