It has been great to return to Placid after 20 years. Great people and tons of improvements underway. We visited Whiteface Mt., Mt. Van Hovenberg, Ski Jumps and various town breweries, restaurants and shops before choosing the Lake Placid Club by Crowne Plaza. This experience was the only sour taste in our mouths. I do not recommend playing here. It's not because the course is covered in weeds and let go quite a bit. The views and course design make up for the poor upkeep. The reason for the 1 star rating, and why I recommend playing other courses, is because of the lack of customer service and unfriendly raincheck policy. When I spent $320 for my wife, two boys and I to play the staff member did not mention the no raincheck policy, which in and of itself is greedy and low class for such a renowned property. After playing 5 holes on the links course the rain started falling and the temperature dropped to 40 degrees. We hung in there through 9 holes. The ride back to the clubhouse was wet and fridged. While I ran to get the car, warm it up and bring it to the club drop, my wife asked for the customary 9 hole rainchecks. I understand from her that the manager was rude and unflexible. He pointed to a sign that stated no rainchecks "today". This was not there when we checked in. Even if it was, there was no mention of it and it was not raining when we started. We did not argue. We left to get warm and find lunch elsewhere. I recommend you do the same. Go elsewhere. Dear Crowne Plaza, I love the course. Please step up your game, treat your customers well and we will reconsider next time.

the best what you get for 80$ is the view into the valley of lake placid. but the golf is at best mediocre. the fairway was 90% good to play. if i happend to be on the other 10%, i took the freedom of moving the ball to a better spot. the grass on the greens was very good – but most of the greens are flat like a pan but with a tricky slope just in one direction. either you get the curve right and hit the hole or your ball goes down the slope, no chance to stop it. putting was more miniature golf than real golf. to me a complete joke. bunkers are mediocre with hard sand. hole no 15 (par 3) is a nuisance. you can't see neither the green nor the flag and you can't measure the distance. i can live with blind shots, but this is a unique stupidness. same problem with no. 16 and 17, but to less extend. i learned, that many walk the course, and it's walkable. but you have to pay the electric cart anyway. to me a no go. i could add on more, but i give it a stop...
Read morePlayed the links course on Sept. 10. First of all, cash is no good here. Went the day before to get tee time and they told me I have to do it online, even though I was standing in front of him. Not a big deal but... When I got there I wanted to buy logo ball, have to put it on the card. Was told there was no cart girl today so if you want a drink, buy it now. Charge it, for a bottle of water !! 95 bucks for 18. Views are great, greens were fantastic. That's it. Fairways sucked, dead weed filled "grass". Traps even worse. Hard as hell & filled with rocks. Not worth what they charge. Played municipal courses that were...
