A Disastrous Anniversary Dinner. My wife and I chose White Bear in Lake Placid for our 10th anniversary dinner, based on some decent online reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of a complete disaster. From the moment we were seated, the service was terrible. It took a staggering 30 minutes to receive menus and place a drink order. When we finally ordered, we were clear: appetizers and salads first, main courses later. We even confirmed this with the waiter. However, our appetizer and main courses arrived simultaneously, 20 minutes after our salads. We sent the mains back, knowing they'd likely be left under a heat lamp. After finishing our appetizer, our mains returned. My wife's steak, ordered well done and it was rare and bloody. Another 20-minute wait ensued, during which my own meal became ice cold. Throughout this ordeal, our waiter never once asked if we wanted dessert. The real chaos began with the bill. Initially, it was a reasonable $130. However, after running my credit card, the waiter returned with a revised bill exceeding $200, including items we never ordered. When I confronted him, he was clueless. A manager, casually enjoying a drink at the bar, was finally brought in. He offered $100 in cash to compensate, claiming he couldn't reverse the charges. I refused, demanding he contact the credit card company. My wife, understandably upset, just wanted to leave. I took my card and the cash, and we left without leaving a tip. To add insult to injury, the table next to us witnessed the entire fiasco. They shared their own negative experience and vowed never to return. In summary: Service: Appalling. Slow, inattentive, and riddled with errors. Food: Inconsistent and poorly timed. Management: Unprofessional and unwilling to properly rectify mistakes. Overall: A completely ruined anniversary dinner. Avoid White Bear at all costs. This restaurant demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism and respect for its customers. Our anniversary dinner was a nightmare, and I strongly advise anyone considering dining at White Bear to...
Read moreYesterday my family and I took a ride up to the Adirondacks to go to White Face mountain. We were hungry when we came down into Lake Placid and saw that this restaurant had a porch looking over the mountains and decided to stop. I noticed that the place wasn't very busy but didn't think much of it, we were allowed to sit on the porch and the view was indeed beautiful. When the water came the carafe contained some floating insects so we ask the waiter to remove it. As we looked over the menus I noticed that the options were pretty run of the mill and a little disappointed that there weren't better options on the menu. I ordered the chicken caesar salad while my two children ordered spaghetti and meatballs. I also ordered an appetizer called a spedini which sounded good in its description in the menu. When the food arrived the chicken on the ceasar salad was cold and uncooked and had no flavor, there was hair in one of the meatball dishes and the speedini was a terrible mixture of cheap undercooked mozzarella sticks with what seemed to me like a concoction of frozen mushrooms and red peppers not fully cooked and soaked in a poutine gravy. It was unappetizing to say the least. We had 3 sodas and the bill was over $90. I did not eat my food, the kids stopped eating thiers upon finding the hairs. I paid the bill and left I will never return to this place, nor will I be...
