A Disastrous Anniversary Dinner. My wife and I chose White Bear in Lake Placid for our 10th anniversary dinner, based on some decent online reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of a complete disaster. From the moment we were seated, the service was terrible. It took a staggering 30 minutes to receive menus and place a drink order. When we finally ordered, we were clear: appetizers and salads first, main courses later. We even confirmed this with the waiter. However, our appetizer and main courses arrived simultaneously, 20 minutes after our salads. We sent the mains back, knowing they'd likely be left under a heat lamp. After finishing our appetizer, our mains returned. My wife's steak, ordered well done and it was rare and bloody. Another 20-minute wait ensued, during which my own meal became ice cold. Throughout this ordeal, our waiter never once asked if we wanted dessert. The real chaos began with the bill. Initially, it was a reasonable $130. However, after running my credit card, the waiter returned with a revised bill exceeding $200, including items we never ordered. When I confronted him, he was clueless. A manager, casually enjoying a drink at the bar, was finally brought in. He offered $100 in cash to compensate, claiming he couldn't reverse the charges. I refused, demanding he contact the credit card company. My wife, understandably upset, just wanted to leave. I took my card and the cash, and we left without leaving a tip. To add insult to injury, the table next to us witnessed the entire fiasco. They shared their own negative experience and vowed never to return. In summary: Service: Appalling. Slow, inattentive, and riddled with errors. Food: Inconsistent and poorly timed. Management: Unprofessional and unwilling to properly rectify mistakes. Overall: A completely ruined anniversary dinner. Avoid White Bear at all costs. This restaurant demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism and respect for its customers. Our anniversary dinner was a nightmare, and I strongly advise anyone considering dining at White Bear to...

Yesterday my family and I took a ride up to the Adirondacks to go to White Face mountain. We were hungry when we came down into Lake Placid and saw that this restaurant had a porch looking over the mountains and decided to stop. I noticed that the place wasn't very busy but didn't think much of it, we were allowed to sit on the porch and the view was indeed beautiful. When the water came the carafe contained some floating insects so we ask the waiter to remove it. As we looked over the menus I noticed that the options were pretty run of the mill and a little disappointed that there weren't better options on the menu. I ordered the chicken caesar salad while my two children ordered spaghetti and meatballs. I also ordered an appetizer called a spedini which sounded good in its description in the menu. When the food arrived the chicken on the ceasar salad was cold and uncooked and had no flavor, there was hair in one of the meatball dishes and the speedini was a terrible mixture of cheap undercooked mozzarella sticks with what seemed to me like a concoction of frozen mushrooms and red peppers not fully cooked and soaked in a poutine gravy. It was unappetizing to say the least. We had 3 sodas and the bill was over $90. I did not eat my food, the kids stopped eating thiers upon finding the hairs. I paid the bill and left I will never return to this place, nor will I be...

Had a wonderful dinner I believe it was a New York strip steak it was the Mario maybe came with topped with onions mushrooms and sausage I think that might be the first time I've ever had it steak top with sausage really good combination, My brother and my niece had the beef short rib they were very happy, The shrimp fra Diablo was delicious and there was a shrimp and scallops with a say blush sauce possibly vodka sauce it didn't taste it You can't tell you but I know my sister-in-law would have bit my arm if I tried to put it in front of her to get anything All in all it was a very nice dining experience other than my normal gripe, when I moved here one of the things that I enjoyed was that the food prices matched the crappy salary I was getting paid and it was very affordable to go out to eat now for some reason every restaurant not so much this one but every restaurant in lake placid your food cost are more expensive than New York City So let me ask you this myself being a builder should I start charging the same rate that they're charging in New York City because of all these restaurants want to keep charging New York City prices I can't afford to go out to eat and I love to go out to eat I mean seriously think about this 18 to $20 for a hamburger ridiculous I used to get a burger deluxe any Greek diner in the city two burgers fries lettuce tomato $6.95 flame broiled...

My husband and I came to the White Bear for a date night. Neither of us had been here before and it was recommended by a coworker and the reviews looked good. It is beautiful and the ambiance is great. We walked and and were immediately greeted, we wanted to request outdoor seating but the host didn't even let us speak and took us a table inside. She dropped our menus and sprinted away. When a server stopped at the table we asked to go outside instead. He brought us to a table outside and gave us a pitcher of water. After a few minutes another server came with a bread basket and oil, which was very good. We had to ask for glasses to drink the water. Salads came out fast and were good. My husband got a Montreal steak and I got the chicken lapiccata. Both of which were very bland, I did have to ask for salt and pepper because there were none at the tables. Honestly the bread and salad were the best part of the whole meal.

First time to the restaurant. We go to Lake Placid frequently and always have lunch, so far up to now it has been a distasteful event. We visited The White Bear today for lunch, great atmosphere, friendly wait staff, very good food. We had the Chicken and Bacon Wrap and the Club Burger, absolutely delicious. When leaving I needed the handicap exit which the owner (Very Sweet and Accommodating) walked us to the exit and waited with me while my husband got the car and helped me in. Such service and good food. We will be going back each time we visit the area. Kudos to the owner for doing a beautiful job on building a very nice restaurant. (Apparently 6 years in the making)
