Edelweiss Motel — Hotel in Town of North Elba

We stopped in at the Edelweiss after a long day hiking Ampersand Mountain. We had originally planned to do the hike and then drive home, but we were both far too exhausted to attempt the long drive back. So, we started hunting around for the cheapest hotel we could find on short notice. The Edelweiss fit the bill perfectly. Cheap rates and comfortable accommodations; exactly what we wanted. The place is old and a bit crusty around the edges, but it seemed well-maintained and there were no major issues. The shower was surprisingly powerful and felt great after the hike. Tap water was fine to drink. Beds were comfy enough.||My only criticisms were that the credit card terminal wasn't working, so I had to pay cash. But an ATM was less than a block away and didn't charge me a fee. And when I arrived back with the cash, she was already on the phone with the service department to see about getting the terminal working, so it was clear that they don't let issues like that go neglected. Only other thing was that we tried opening the windows to get some air flowing in the slightly stuffy room, but the exterior storm windows were still installed from the winter, so that was a no-go. But, not a huge deal, the room wasn't really that stuffy.||The location is excellent! One can easily access the downtown and the major roads from here. This place has a lot of charm for people who appreciate the "classic" American style...

Do not stay here! We stayed one night due to desperation. This place is by far the most disgusting place I have ever seen. Dirty nasty stained hairy older than my grandmother bedding and furniture. The carpet was disgusting. Stained and stunk so badly! We wouldn’t even walk on it without shoes on. We had to buy sheets and pillows. The bedding was not washed. The pillows were stained and putrid. The room smelled like a dead body. The blankets were ripped up and full of hairs. I stripped the beds and put the new sheets on but we still slept in our sleeping bags on top of the sheets. The mattresses were older than dirt and ripped. I was expecting to see bugs come crawling out. I cannot say anything good about this place. I’m shocked that this place is still in business. We were told there was a tv which wasn’t a lie. There was a tv but it did not even work. We knew the place was going to be a little rough just by looking at the place and that was ok. But I never expected it to be like this. This place should be shut down by the department of health. Next time I’ll sleep on the ground before I ever stay in something like this place. Do not stay with this motel ..its disgusting,,this motel is ripping tourists off and my self ..more than a dozen or so in last 2 weeks. Do not stay at this motel ..my tiny room was dirty with paint falling off ceilings,,bed linnen dirty,,tv did not work,dirty old paper wipes were found under matress,,light switches broken. Windows broken and couldnt be closed . Neigbours lighting on all night windows had no curtains..no coffee satchets,,bed was hard wooden planks with paper thin mattress ..they could and did not fix,,so i left and asked for refund they refused.. this is also advertised on pahia facebook page with many other travellers complaints that have recently been affected there are...
