The only star I can give this unkempt property is ⭐️ for location. It’s all downhill from there.
The rude and distracted Eastern European elderly lady who checked us in reminded us “This is a family friendly hotel”. Complete with a shrine to Jesus and Mary behind her front desk. I’m not sure what trouble she thought an old married couple in our 50’s were going to cause but we were warned. More than once.
Maybe because my husband is Latino? I would just advise all brown, mixed, Muslim or other minorities to avoid these pre WW1 attitudes held by the owners of Suncoast Motel.
Now to our suite. The view was breathtaking. And that’s the only nice thing I have say about the suite. The sparse furniture looked like it had been rejected from a Golden Girls stage set. Furniture is very worn, mismatched and scratched. And the bedrooms are filthy dirty. I mean scary dirty. Neither of us had the nerve to crawl under the grey/yellow (were they once white?) sheets so we slept under the beach towels we brought from home. There was no way we were taking chances with the ancient bedding on sagging smelly mattresses that truly smelled of rot and decay. If I could guess I'd say they were new in 1970 and have since not been replaced.
I won’t even go into to the uncovered urine stained twin mattress leaning on its side in the ‘walk in closet’. But yes, that also happened.
The bathroom was no better. Two tiny bath towels, no more. If you weren't prepared you'd use your ‘fun in the sun’ small towel and need to reuse it again if you were going to clean up for supper or an evening out.
The WiFi is laughable. If everything else was good I would let this slide. But in my case it only emphasized how little these hoteliers care about your comfort.
And the entire staff takes Sunday off. Hope you don't need any of the extras they promote online on THAT day. Apparently the staff has better things to do.
In a short summary: you are paying for the location. Period. But for an extra $50 a night there are pseudo posh luxury hotels ON the beach that will cater to your whims.
A lesson this family learned too late. Just avoid this...
Read moreWe found this motel about 6 yrs. ago. And we have always enjoyed staying there ever since every time we go to St. Petersburg. They have always been so helpful and a delight to stay with. The first time we stay there.....it was about 8pm and we where having a difficult time finding a reasonably priced place to stay in the area. Because we hadn't planned to stay the night originally but later on we realized we could and really wanted to. So finally we stop at Suncoast cause they were just down from where we were hanging out and they had a vacancy sign. Of course it was after hours but they had a telephone there outside the door that rang when you picked it up. And polite women answered the phone and I asked if they had a room we could stay in. She said yes of course and we were very happy to be accommodated so late in the evening. Much to our surprise not only was the room about $30 cheaper then the surrounding hotels but it was such a nice room and so very clean and the next day we found they had 2 beautiful pools and outside grilling areas for anyone to use. A time later me and my daughter went and stayed there again. At that time they were having a catering event for their guest at no extra cost to us at all. We have stayed many other times also, and every time has been a great beautiful memory for us to share. Ricky T's restaurant is in walking distance and Publix supermarkets, which is a...
Read moreWe were hoping to find a last-minute hotel on Treasure Island and on the beach, and we found an amazing one. This place was dreamy. There is plenty of available outdoor seating so you can drink coffee or cocktails and stare at the ocean. The beach is clean and pretty. The sand is a mix of sugar-fine sand and larger broken bits, with whole shells all the way up the walkway. We didn’t find very large shells, but the variety we found was much better than Clearwater and very pretty. We had 3 adults and 2 kids, and we’re all able to sleep comfortably in an apartment with. The apartment had 1 bedroom with 2 queen or full beds, a sleeper-sofa and a twin mattress we could put where we wanted. We were able to grill our dinner in the brick fire-pit. The kitchen had more than we expected for us to use. It was so nice to be able to walk right downstairs and out to the beach. There’s even a Publix grocery store about 2 blocks away. The very friendly staff keeps the place tidy and they drop of fresh linens outside your room each morning. It isn’t “luxurious” in the traditional sense, but it has all kinds of luxuries. This place has charm from the past, and everything you need for a perfect beach...
