View and location were great - that's about it
We stayed at unit 109 at The Palms of Treasure Island in February, 2020. It was rented through John Giammarco. First of all, the exterior of the building was under construction and it looked like it would be going on for a while. It was noisy all day long and one guy told us he couldn't even sit on his balcony at all. Luckily for us, we were on the other side of the building from where they were working, but it still was very loud and disruptive. I've seen listings for other places where guests were warned in advance about construction. We were not informed at any time about this.
Every piece of furniture in the unit was very uncomfortable. The pictures online were deceiving because the living room furniture didn't look really old but the cushions had no support and just flattened when you sat on them (and we are normal size people). My back actually hurt after sitting on the couch for a short while. We finally brought chairs in from the balcony to sit on and used those for the rest of the stay. The kitchen chairs had pads on the seats in the online photos but when we got there, they were gone so there was no padding on them.
The sheets on the beds were the thinnest I've ever seen. The bed in the second bedroom had plastic wrapped around the mattress and was noisy every time you moved. When we booked this, it was listed as having a sofa bed, which we planned on using for friends of ours that were going to be staying with us part of the time. After I paid the final deposit, he then told me that the sofa bed was broken and he had replaced it with a trundle bed underneath the double bed in the second bedroom. It was right on the floor and didn't raise up like some trundle beds do. It didn't look like it would even fit up against the wall because the space was so tight. About the only person who could possibly use it would be a small child. I asked him if we could get a cot brought in, since we had booked it thinking the sofa bed would be available. He went back and forth and sent me a portion of the description where it said there was a trundle bed. But that's not the way it was listed when I booked it, and I wasn't informed of that until I had made the final payment. He didn't seem to acknowledge that or understand it. Eventually he said he would get a cot, it was the best he could do, and if that wasn't okay, I could request a refund.
The balcony had plastic resin table & chairs. The chairs had slats going across the back. Some of the chairs must have cracked or broken so instead of replacing them (at a cost of probably $10 each), someone had cut the tops of those chairs off so that the backs were lower than the rest of them. Not comfortable.
The pool was not heated at all and was freezing cold. We stuck our legs in to test it but never used it because of that.
Lighting in the unit and the hallways of the building was extremely dim. The only windows that looked out to the outdoors were the sliding glass door in the living room and one side window in the living room. The bedroom windows had blinds on them but they actually looked out into the inner hallway of the building - really strange. See pictures I took of those.
Positives are that the view is great of the intracoastal. We saw tons of pelicans, a few dolphins, and a variety of boats from our balcony. The location is great, being right next to Publix and a short walk to Walgreens. There's also many restaurants within walking distance and John's Pass is about a 30 min. walk.
I definitely would not stay here again. The negatives outweigh any positives. We are so glad we only stayed 2 weeks instead of a month as we originally planned. Date of stay:...
Read moreWe stayed in 209 from 12/26 to 1/1/15 and for our family of 5 it worked out very well (kids 15, 8, 6). With PUBLIX right next door you can literally run and grab what you want to eat/drink throughout the day. We paid for the beach/recreational stuff and were glad we did. We had brought some fishing gear and with limited help from the locals (they did not understand Midwest fishing) were able to use squid tentacles as worms to catch small fish off and around the dock. The big thing to remember is that you are using some ones vacant apartment, so although there is the basic cooking supplies, bathroom towels w/small soap bars, and start up paper products you really need to supply all the rest. Again the store had small sizes available in most things we needed. We had booked through teamingVR so we went right from the source. 209 was well situated for a view of the bay, is was easy to get to the beach, the TV's in all 3 rooms had HDMI connections, we just could not stream CHROME because of the need to access a browser to click "OK" to use the WI-FI. I just cabled in for Netflix. The elevator had the wrong password posted for Wi-Fi because it had the P capitalized but you had to use a lower case (15yr old figured that out). The pool was not heated and that was a bummer for the kids but luckily for us we had sunshine so we were at the beach more often. The only reason I would not consider a re-stay would be the heated pool if we had the smaller kids with us. I don’t use it so the hot tub worked for me :-) We ate at Sloppy Joes, Britt’s Pizza, Ricky T’s and Bubba Gump and they were all good. I watched the Packer game at Players Bar & Grill down the road a ways and all the video games/pool/darts were free so the kids blew off steam. St. John’s Pass was a good day of walking and shopping. Prices are very reasonable for knick knack and shirts. We drove into Tampa for the ZOO, Aquarium, and a Movie….the ZOO has outdoor wet stuff small kids can do so bring suits. All 3 spots were OK, not overly memorable. “Jeff” has a lot of rules and I like rules and will tell strangers to follow them. The info we received was a little threatening though about what we would have to pay for is we got caught “feeding birds, leaving a mess, garbage issues, not cleaning what we used” but some people may take offense to the way it is presented. When my wife read it she made comments about not relaxing because of the rules, but it all worked of great. If you are a lazy person that breaks rules, don’t stay here so the next person can...
Read moreOur family stayed at 310 Palms of Treasure Island from September 12 - 16, 2025.Be very careful staying in this unit. On the good side, the unit is on the third floor of the building and has a great view of the intercoastal waterway and the pool area. On the bad side, our 4 night vacation was disrupted terribly by a) hundreds of ants in the living room and kitchen area of the unit. We killed hundreds of ants the first three days in the unit. maintenance reacted quickly with a spray solution, but it did not completely solve the issue b) there was black mold on the kitchen and bathroom ceiling vents. Maintenance again reacted quickly in cleaning the outside of the vents, but you have to wonder what might be behind the vents in the duck system c) on our first night when trying to clean up, the water out of all valves had the strongest sulfur smell. It literally made all of us feel sick. When we called maintenance for this third time, they noted that the unit had not been rents for two weeks and the hot water tank may have been acting up. We were told to run hot water through all the showers and sinks for ten minutes to let the system adjust. Don't you think this issue and the other two should have been handled through a thorough cleaning and inspection of the unit ahead of our visit rather than us spending our vacation staying at the site and handling all these issues? d) final maintenance issue was in the guest shower. It was disgusting. Big globs of hair left in the drain as the drain would not work plus soap scum all over the shower walls and glass doors. Obviously, not properly cleaned and inspected. In addition, the shower floor tiles were filthy. As you can see, we had a terrible ordeal and would not wish that on any vacationer. The iTrip team offered us a small one day(before taxes and fees) refund which amounted to about 1/5 of our total spend. When I checked with other individuals in the vacation rental industry, they were pretty much in agreement that even one of those significant issues noted should carry a full refund. Obviously, we were very unhappy but also we tried to be supportive of the maintenance team to encourage fixing these issues ahead of the...
