My experience with this Marriott hotel was simply okay. My partner and I arrived shortly after 2:00 p.m. The computer systems were down therefore, we had to wait about 15 minutes to get checked in. During the wait we mentioned to the front desk staff that my partner had a flight to catch and had to be at the airport by 4:00 p.m. Upon arrival at our room, we were dismayed to find hair on the pillows, comforter and sheets. Immediately, we contacted the front desk and requested new sheets and a clean comforter. Out of respect for the housekeeping staff (due to the pandemic) we decided to make our own bed. After getting settled in, I raced through rush hour traffic to get my partner to the airport on time. Later that night, I was scrolling through the Marriott TV menu and I noticed that this hotel offered shuttle rides to the airport.... Finding out this information was extremely frustrating. Upon arrival, we mentioned to the front desk staff that time was critical due to the fact I had to rush my partner to the airport. No one commented about the shuttle bus service that offers rides to the airport. The rooms are standard size, the bed sleeps comfortably however, the pillows are too soft and lumpy. I found numerous pubic hairs clinging to the inside of the room towels (glad I bought my own towels). Complimentary breakfast is not available. On the other hand, this hotel includes a restaurant that you can order service from. Housekeeping is only available if you request it. In addition, masks are optional if your vaccinated. There were a few parking spaces in front however, utilizing the parking garage (that is attached to the hotel) was a more convenient choice for me. I stayed at a Comfort Inn last Christmas while traveling and on Christmas morning, guest were greeted with small gift bags of complimentary water and treats. This hotel did not create that type of atmosphere. Furthermore, every time I walked into the lobby, I was met with looks from some of the hotel staff as if they were surprised to see me. Which leads me to determine that the looks were due to the color of my skin. I noticed that I got a few more stares than Caucasian guests. I assume my polite manner, expensive clothing, purses and heels were not enough to inform staff that I am a business woman. Nothing impressive stood out about this particular Marriott hotel. Therefore, I only took one picture of the lobby. The rooms are standard, the atmosphere is standard, and the customer service is lacking. The only good thing about this hotel is the convenient location with plenty of shopping malls and restaurants nearby. Next time I'm traveling within this area, I will not stay at...
Read moreClean, modern, and just an all around great stay. I love the way the rooms look so modern and clean. The rooms are super spacious and feel like your staying in a miniature executive suite. I love how there is a white marble desk large enough for me to do work, and watch TV. By the way the TV in the rooms are like a 65" TV, but don't quote me on the size I just no its large! The bathrooms have been updated and have a modern standing shower with plenty of water pressure and they come with a massager shower head which is nice when you need one. My bed was super soft and clean and I slept like a baby. My room was next to the elevators and in this case it wasn't a problem. I didn't hear people going in and out of the elevators, the only time I was bothered was when someone was talking on their cell phone in the hallway. For one person you get plenty of closet space. I can see this room being a little bit of a problem with a family but for a couple or a business trip type person its just the right size. I wish every hotel had rooms like this. The only down side is that you don't get a free breakfast. Now if you get to a certain level on the membership program breakfast is included, if not it's $20 for the breakfast buffet which is not very affordable. But I will say that the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable when it came to the best places to eat. Another benefit is, if you like to go out and eat they have a free shuttle that will drop you off and pick you up to where ever you would like to go (with in the area), so no need for a taxi or Uber. The downstairs lounge and restaurant are top notch. A couple of my friends that were with me had lunch and drinks there and they loved it. At night it was packed with business people and people staying in the hotel, so that tells me that they are doing something right. Note: when you stay at the Marriott make sure you sign up for the free membership so that you get the free internet. I was able to do homework, work, stream video, and talk to my family all on the free internet service that comes with my membership. And let me not forget the great GYM and swimming pool. If you need to get a workout in or you just want a dip in the pool, this place has you covered with a beautiful facility. You be let down when it comes to relaxing. At the end of my I was super impressed with the service, the comfort, and just the overall...
Read moreThe Troy Marriott is one of my favorite Marriott hotels, not only because I've been staying there for so many years but because of certain staff members and how clean and welcoming it is there. Both Karen who is head of housekeeping and Natasha who is in the concierge lounge in the evenings are two of the brightest stars in my opinion in this hotel. I feel that without their presence, it would not be the same. Heather on the front desk is outstanding with customers and joy is a true joy in the back office! The General Manager should be proud of her staff and I'm sure she is but I wanted to stress that there are people who just cannot be replaced and who a true representatives of the Marriott brand. I always have a restful and good stay at this Marriott. There is only one complaint I have and that is that this hotel used to serve the most delicious coffee but like many of the other Marriott's has jumped on the Starbucks wagon. I realize that most of the population these days has very little taste in quality but there are still some of us who do. Starbucks is a corporation on the stock exchange making billions off real estate and their coffee in my humble opinion is not enjoyable in any way to drink. I believe the Troy Marriott should bring in a local coffee that would be a joy to drink and that would be representative of the state of Michigan such as Beanstro Specialty Coffee from Waterford Township. After all, it's all about diversity. We used to eat in the dining room downstairs but after they changed their coffee to Starbucks, there was really no point. Other than that, we love the Troy Marriott and look forward to visiting...
