This hotel (motel?) is awful! I don't know why it is included in Marriott's chain of hotels. We had to stay in Visalia for 2 nights but I wish I could have checked out after the first night. ||The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I have no issues with the staff. ||As soon as we walked in, we noticed the room had a strong hospital smell. The room was very dark and had horrible fluorescent lighting in all of the lamps. There was a red stain on the carpet between the beds that looked like blood. The bathroom didn't have a soap dish on the counter for the soap. We had to leave the soap on the wrapper on the counter. The vanity looked like it was built by a 5th grader in wood shop class using wood from a dump. It was so poorly made and ugly. The shower liner was too short to cover the tub. When we showered, water shot out all over the bathroom floor and flooded our bathroom floor. The height of the shower head was perfect for someone who is 5 feet tall. For anyone taller, you would have to duck to wash your hair. The TV remote was fussy and the TV would not turn off. The thermostat did not work. We had to control the air conditioner from the unit itself, which rumbled as loud as a plane taking off. We had to hear and feel the rumbling AC all night long. When the AC would auto turn off when it reached the set temperature, we could hear our neighbor snoring through the thin walls. One night, other hotel guests (possibly hotel residents?) burnt popcorn in their microwave and it filled our room with the burnt popcorn smell. Early Sunday morning, we were woken by 2 kids racing up and down the hallway. Their mother was still getting ready for the day, so their father let them run amok in the hallway while she got ready instead of taking them outside to the parking lot or to a playground. For 40 minutes, we heard "I"LL RACE YOU!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAHH!!!!!!" (Stomp stomp stomp stomp stomp). Occasionally, their father would scream at them. It finally stopped when I called the front desk to ask them to do something about it.||This was by far the worst hotel stay I've had at a Marriott. If you ever have to go to Visalia, stay at the Marriott at the Convention...

My husband has scoliosis and part of his daily therapy is to soak in hot water to relax the muscles around the spine. We specifically chose this hotel while traveling from Idaho for the indoor hot tub. When we checked in we were told the hot tub would be up and running the next day. It was not. We checked with the front desk they assured us it would be fixed later that day. It was not. In fact, we checked every day with staff to see if would be working. They promised us it would be fixed. No results.
After this stay he has gone to the chiropractor and massage therapist twice in one week. He is in so much pain he can barely move. He has an appointment with his orthopedic specialist Wednesday. Hopefully they will be able to come up with some sort of pain management for him.
We also reported our refrigerator not getting cold. They just said sorry. Didn't seem to care. Meanwhile, the food we put in the fridge went sour.
We asked to speak with the manager 3 different times during our stay. We were told he is gone for the day but will be in tomorrow. Out for the day at 10am on a Monday?! When we checked out we told them how unhappy we were with the service and amenities not working. The lady apologized and said "I wish there was something I could do but the manager is the only one authorized to deal with complaints. You can come back tomorrow or send him an email. At this point was so disgusted with the service I had to walk away.
We have been calling for a week straight, 3 times a day and we are told the manager is gone for a family emergency, out of the office, in a meeting, the excuses go on. Each time we leave our name and phone number. Not once have we had a return call. It seems to me the manager is hiding from his responsibilities of deal with upset customers. Not to mention it is just flat out rude and poor etiquette to ignore FIFTY-FOUR phone calls!!!
If this how Marriott is conducting business now, I want no part of it!! I feel an apology is owed to us and a refund for the all hoops we have had to jump through with ZERO results!!
DO NOT STAY AT...
Read moreWe were really surprised by the things we encountered during our recent stay. This hotel really was not up to par for the brand. We don't feel we're overly picky, either. Some real basic things just were not addressed. The list of observations got to be so long we decided to write it down for later feedback to Marriott.
HVAC controls on the window unit didn't work. We had to speak to the desk staff. They said there was a wall control across the room. There was no signage anywhere indicating that the controls on the unit actually blowing the air were non-functioning. Smoke detector visibly missing from ceiling. No carbon monoxide detector in room. No power outlet next to bed to plug in charging bases for devices. Very few outlets in room. The accommodation was that the bedside stand had to be dragged across the room so that the power outlet could be reached and hold several devices. Then there was no bedside table. So the desk chair was dragged to be next to the bed to serve as a table. Bedside digital clock was not changed for daylight savings time a week after the change. The body wash and shampoo in the shower were empty. These are fixed bottles to the wall of the shower. The door to the bathroom made a squeak/groan sound for the entirety of its opening and closing and woke the other sleeping guest multiple times overnight. The chair at the desk had only a low back and was extremely heavy and difficult to move. There was NO other furniture in the room, just a very large open floor area. No table with chairs to sit at, and no comfortable chair for reading or anything else. We asked the staff if something could be moved into the room from an empty room and they said there was no other furniture. They said the hotel had gone through a remodel a few months ago and the rooms were never furnished. It really isn't acceptable to have only a bed and a single chair in a King room in the 200/night price range.
We took photos of the most egregious failures in providing for the safety and comfort of...
