The worst part of the trip was figuring out how to get to the hotel from the never ending construction on Kellogg (tip: if you’re EB on Kellogg, go thru the Webb instersection, hang a right on Wildcat Ln, which turns into E Orme St, and puts you out on Webb. Do NOT follow google maps absurd U-turn route). Once you’ve nailed this, you’ll be welcomed into a thoughtfully renovated space with over the top service.
Some of the guest rooms are thoroughly renovated, at the time of this writing, floors 8-11 were done. Floors 5-7 were under construction, and 2-4 were the old rooms. I was on the 9th floor and and found the renovated room to be impressive, if not a bit small. If you’re angling for an elite upgrade, I wouldn’t count on one here (or any Marriott, for that matter), the rooms all appear to be the same size on the fire escape floor plan on the door. Not clear if there are any actual suites or not, maybe the renovation will incorporate some.
Room pros: giant smart tv, new beds, great pillows, outlets everywhere you need them, awesome shower with strong water pressure
Room cons: a bit small - good luck if you’re a family.
Amenities: M Lounge is small, couple times it was crowded, but the hosts are great and fridges were always stocked with my favorite drinks. Lounge featured an above average spread every evening sun-thurs, and even though there wasn’t anything fri-sat, the lounge was still open/accessible so you could always grabs drinks. Breakfast in the lounge is ok, you’d do better to use your free breakfast benefit @ the restaurant, where there’s a few more options. The fitness center is unreal - if you’re used to typical crappy hotel gyms you are going to be blown away by this place. My favorite amenity - FREE guest laundry that had automatic detergent / fabric softener dispenser! And there was 3 washers and 3 dryers, so you don’t have to do laundry hunger games over 1 machine.
Service This place is differentiated not only by the extensive renovation and amenities, but the service I received Everyone I encountered seemed to go out of their way to greet me or thank me for staying. The wait staff in the great room were always accommodating my need for a to-go cup and my check as soon as I sat down. Make sure you’re tipping the wait staff - your free breakfast doesn’t mean they work for free.
All in all, a top 5 Marriott property I’ve ever stayed at, maybe even nicer than a...
Read moreThere are plenty of nice hotels in the immediate area, I’d choose any hotel other than this one.
The front desk associate I spoke with, Andrew, was quite bold in lying directly to my face, multiple times. It’s an odd interaction when both sides know that what’s being said is a lie but they continue on with it regardless. I stay at quite a few Marriott’s across the country and because I do not tolerate dishonesty, I can’t say I’d ever recommend this specific location to anyone.
Short story is when I came to check-in the gal immediately got her “supervisor” and he said that they oversold and I was being moved to another hotel. I asked why nobody had called me and he said that “they tried to call but didn’t have a number on file” (lie #1). I’m a rewards member, of course you have my number. I stay at a Marriott dozens of times every year, and have been for over a decade. So then I asked him “you don’t have any rooms available?” and he said no, they don’t (lie #2). Immediately after I stepped away, I witnessed multiple people check-in without issue. He gave me a sheet of paper to take to the new hotel and said they’d comp my 2 nights, however the sheet said they would only comp one night. I didn’t notice it until I arrived at the new hotel, so I had to talk to the new front desk gal about it and she had to call to confirm.
I couldn’t care less about the money, but it’s the integrity and honesty of the company that you’re representing that matters. Overall, terrible problem solving and decision making. Poor ownership and even worse is how I was treated like a fool with multiple lies directly to my face. I expect more from such a reputable brand and someone in a leadership role that is supposed to have sound judgement and problem solving skills. It makes me consider other hotel brands as I travel for business as well as with my family. This specific location should really be ashamed of how they handled the situation and use this is a...
Read moreOur favorite hotel in Wichita Kansas. We stayed at at least 15 different hotels in Wichita over the years. We are in Wichita an average of two nights a week in the summer and at least two nights a month in the winter. We are never disappointed when we stay here. From the lounge experience, staff and personal service and attention to detail, we are always happy we choose the Marriott over every other hotel in the city. The beds are the most comfortable beds anywhere, the rooms are always clean, the front desk staff is prompt and courteous, the housekeepers are always kind and professional and always have a smile on their face! We don't use the pool and spa as often but in the summer months we do from time to time. It's a relaxing atmosphere. When I'm there in the summer for competitive baseball tournaments with my son, I really appreciate the full-size size laundry service machines and did I mention that they provide the soap free! I just always feel comfortable here. I can take a walk outside or relax and read a book in the common area close to the conference suites. Our favorite place is the lounge area. They know us immediately when they see us and always ask about the kids & the family. Probably the best part is the brunch on the weekends and the large TVs in the semi private coves just off of the main lounge where we always enjoy gathering if we have friends and additional family with us. We've watched many a ball game there and enjoyed wonderful food and service. Sometimes we stay late too! And no one ever asks us to wrap it up they always stay and take care of us no matter what time of the evening it is. I can't say enough about the attention to detail and service. Hands-down, our favorite hotel in...
