normally don't write bad reviews if I have a bad feeling about a place I just don't say anything. And it's hard because people are short-staffed but this Best Western in Wichita Kansas did not seem to be short staffed. It was one of the most unwelcoming experiences I've ever had in a hotel. I am a lifetime Platinum member with with the Marriott group and I'm a diamond member in Best Western so I've stayed in many many Best Westerns and many hotels. I need to point out that just finished a great 1-month stay in Tucson at a Best Western. I guess in Wichita it's a feeling of being unwelcome or employees actually disliking having to serve guests…I will say that the person that I booked to hotel with earlier that day was very good and did their best to accommodate what I wanted but the person that was there when I came in about 5:00 viewed me as the enemy. They did not really recognize that I was a Best Western diamond member until I pointed it out to them. They just said let me see your ID and a credit card…I gave him a credit card on the phone earlier. Then they said we're going to have to charge you $50 for incidentals and will return it to you if there aren't any charges. And I said what do you mean you're going to charge me $50 for incidentals ???? You have my credit card or should be no charge unless I actually use incidentals. I said with a free breakfast in no dining room what incidentals am I going to get charged? They said well it's our policy and then I looked at the policy and it was for debit cards not for credit cards. I made a point of telling the young man that it's not his fault he didn't make the rules but it really was bad for business. And I also told him as I read their little card it see if you have a debit card they want to charge you the extra 50 bucks. I told the young man I never heard of such a policy at any hotel unless it was some fly by night motel off the highway. The young man finally agreed not to put the $50 on my card. Just to let you know I have written positive reviews about Best Westerns you can see my reviews of the Best Western inn in Cottonwood Arizona, the Best Western in river's edge in Red River New Mexico, the Best Western Plus in Marion Arkansas, the Best Western in Tallahassee North in Florida, the Best Western in Mount pleasant Iowa, the Best Western in Blythe California, the Best Western in Holbrook Arizona, those are about 10 I remember and I'm sure there's more. So...I always have to say some positive things. It's fairly conveniently located from the interstate. The room seem to be clean. I like to make my own coffee so they did have a coffee maker and a mini refrigerator and a microwave. But I will tell you I won't be staying at this hotel again and I would not recommend this hotel. I wish I could give different values for different things but I would say in terms of cleanliness I would give this a three-star rating but in terms of customer service I would give it one star so an averages a two The other problem with this hotel is there's no easy access to a restaurant for dinner. Plus it's noisy being very close to the highway. I could stay for almost the same amount at the Fairfield Marriott in Wichita with better parking and...
Read moreHere's where the rubber meets the road on this place. It has lots of amenities listed that they do not do. There is not pillow top mattresses in the king rooms. Their fitness centers very small and three of the aerobic machines which is all they had we're out of order. The pool which they advertise on their front sign is very cold and not heated properly. They cleaned it while I was there and it did not look like they did a very good job but it did make it even colder. They had some kids from college at a tournament here that was smoking marijuana in the rooms. So it made the hallways near our room very smelly. They stated they give out newspapers everyday I haven't seen a paper there ever. Caroline has always been a great person here at this facility. Also we are very impressed by the maid service here. However if you are looking for the amenities you pay for here are very limited. About the only thing you're going to get is the free breakfast every morning until 9 a.m. Also the location of this hotel is very sketchy it's between a Motel 6 and a Super 8 not very good company for a family Hotel. Don't think for a moment you're going to get away with smoking in this facility. The maids are very good at telling the general manager who is smoking whatever in their rooms. I feel like it's a good quiet Hotel that has great facilities people for the most part. However it needs to have the hot tub hot and working not out of order. And definitely buy new exercise equipment for the gym it definitely needs a good bicycle, elliptical trainer ,and a good treadmill. Also they need to offer their breakfast hours at least till 10 a.m. I hope they will take my tips this is my second trip here it was more disappointing this time than the first time. Unfortunately they're going downhill not uphill. May you seek your Lord and Savior Jesus...
Read moreThe clerk (Judy) was fantastic. She was friendly, talkative and informative. The room was another story. It looks old and dingy. The bathroom was not in good shape. It needs a total remodel and cleaning. We paid a $20.00 pet fee and when we walked in the room, there was a pee spot at the end of the bed (see photo). Our dogs had not been in the room at all. The floor was so dirty that when we used one of their wash cloths to clean it, the wash cloth was black. There was something gritty all over the floor. After putting our belongings in the room, we went out to get our two Yorkshire Terriers. There was a couple that came out of the building from the pool. They put their two children in the car (silver import with the passenger side mirror broken off / dangling). The husband got in the driver seat and the wife stood outside the driverside window. They lit up a joint and was passing.it back and forth with the kids sitting in the back seat. We went to their breakfast bar the next morning. The sausage looked under cooked, the potatoes (tater tots) had steamed so much they fell apart (into little pieces). The eggs looked really good. But after seeing the other items we passed. As we were leaving, there was a guy with his vehicle jacked up setting on blocks (in their parking lot) doing a complete brake job. He had the brake system completely disassembled with brake fluid puddled under both rotors. We were supposed to stay three nights. Didn't happen. We packed up and went to the LA Quinta Northeast on Greenwich. Same rate but 300% cleaner and nicer. I would never suggest anyone stay at the Best Western...
