The Monterey is a great place to stay. It is a hop skip and a jump away from the ocean/beach. Literally on the beach. We always enjoy our time there and it's away from the boardwalk so it's nice and quiet at night. A quick trip on your bike (10 minutes) or a 5 minute car ride or so and you're at the boardwalk.
Lisa and Fran are so welcoming to the guests. Prior to 2020 we didn't have the best luck with management but boy have things changed. Fran (excuse me) Mr. Bingo hosts Friday night bingo with prizes for the everyone. Let alone Saturday has live music and "Monterey has talent". A variety show staring the very own guests staying at the Monterey. They promise more to come to! They also have bell service (during main season) where they bring bags to your room when you check in and back down when you check out. The young man's name is Timmy and boy is he a worker. Need extra towels? Housekeeping staff are impeccable. Rooms are clean and stocked... I've never seen them not smile. Not to mention free parking assigned by room # so you can rest assured knowing you car is right there and close to the beach.
Our room was beautiful. Room 301 is on the top floor literally OCEANFRONT! The room has relaxing colors and beautiful furniture all updated. The bedroom is comfortable and great for a family of 4 however if you have a larger family there's also a new couch that pulls out to sleep 2 more. The bathroom has been updated and is nice and clean. Don't get me started on the oversized shower head... with a small window to look out at the ocean while showering... I never wanted to get out!
The view is what sells the room though. A 270 degree view from the kitchen table, or the couch for those just looking to surf the channels. But when you step out onto the oversized deck to read a book or just take in the views, you get kissed by the sea air and endless beach views. You can see all the way past the first 2 piers off the boardwalk all the way down to Diamond Beach.
There's 3/4 floor to ceiling windows that let in a copious amount of natural lighting as well. The kitchen was sized just right so we can enjoy a few home cooked meals coupled with the grilling area on the 1st floor (beware of seagulls....they like hot dogs)... but to help the budget we had no issues with breakfast or lunch. Nice kitchen utensils, pots and pans and plate ware you can tell the owners didn't forget one detail.
We look forward to the trip back! We definitely will be staying in Room 301 again and can't wait to yell BINGO!!! at...
Read moreWe visited mid week in September in order to have a less crowded experience at the shore during Covid, and also to do so during the shoulder season.||||This ended up being well achieved. The hotel only had about 8 cars in the lot, like most of the oceanside motels, and the crest, the beach, and wildwood boardwalk were easy to navigate without being close to others.||||Our room as pretty standard, for the Monterey. It is a no frills motel, with its primary advantage of being right on the each. Furnishings vary by condo, as they are privately owned, but basic furnishings and condition I would say. ||||Housekeeping was fine. We forgot to tell the desk we did not want daily service, so we just worked with the staff as they arrived and exchanged towels, had the garbage removed, and that was it. (I do a "Covid" cleaning when I arrive at any hotel these days)||||The staff this year was excellent. A change since we were last here, before Covid. Lisa (I think her name is), was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful!! ||||We enjoyed some fantastic weather, great views from our deck and just peace and quiet, which is what we came for. ||||Be aware that many places are closed at this time of year (mid September), or short staffed this year due to Covid and I guess people just don't seem to want to work... anywhere... it's really too bad...||||We did take advantage of the kitchenette in the unit. We ate 1 or 2 breakfasts in and same with lunch.||||One thing in our unit, though, the windows did not open. There weren't any screens on them and it looked like they were blocked from opening anyway. I much prefer a hotel room where windows can be opened, especially when the only window is in the front...... we could not get any fresh air in the bedroom in the rear of the unit. We had to open front door to get fresh air period.... that is really my only negative.||||We went to the Lobster House one day for a mid-afternoon Lobster tail treat out on their deck and also a few hotels down from Monterey, (going towards the boardwalk), we found the Palm Royal Hotel. Here we had a fantastic breakfast one day, out on the outdoor patio, and an average dinner one night there as well, also outside.||||We will return to Monterey, again in the shoulder season, to enjoy all these things again!! Thanks for...
Read moreIt was a very uncomfortable situation the whole weekend. The manager who lives there walks around and constantly watches you like you are doing something wrong. If she isn't staring at you her family and friends are watching you. We're a mid forties couple with two young children and were treated like teenagers on senior week. She yelled at us for one of my kids leaving our door open accidentally as they went inside for a drink. She would constantly remind us of the rules even though we weren't breaking any. Other patrons who were staying there had worse encounters. 4 woman had a few friends stop by and sit with them at the pool, the manager threw them out. I know it was technically against the rules, but they were just sitting and talking. Then that night it was ok for the manager and cleaning woman to have over their friends and family to the pool and courtyard making it very uncomfortable for patrons to use the facilities. At one point a police officer was called, not sure why. My family felt we had to stay in our room. We felt like prisoners not vacationers. Many other patrons we talked to felt the same way. The manager, her staff, and their families and friends looked and stared at us like we were staying there on their dollars and not ours. None of them lived there. I have never written a bad review til now. I will never stay there again and tell anyone I know that who vacations at Wildood not to stay there. I went and read other reviews and If I was a condo owner at the Monterey, I'd be very concerned that eventually no one one...
