Sand Dune Motel — Hotel in Wildwood Crest

PSA DO NOT STAY AT THE Sand Dune IN WILD WOOD- THEY WILL GIVE YOUR ROOM AWAY.

my husband and I booked a room in July LAST YEAR while we were THERE IN PERSON. just like we did the year before- booked a week in person. Last year they didn’t have (ie lost) our reservation and had to move our room. No problem, as long as we have the same kind of room on the same floor not an issue. They did this to friends of ours as well- who have been Going there FOR 20 YEARS.

Today- For the SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, husband calls to put a deposit down, ans he tried to call LAST MONTH (January) and left voicemails but no one returned his call- and they tell us that they don’t have his name and can’t find our reservation. They then proceed to tell him that the rooms are fully booked with deposits paid, And we don’t have a reservation.

HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE WHEN WE BOOKED IN PERSON? What they need to do is call the family they GAVE OUR ROOM TO and say- “I’m sorry we made a mistake. Here is your deposit back. This room was already reserved.”

No such luck. No apologies. Nothing. Infact, they were very nasty. They did offer us a room on the third floor with no kitchen, because apparently that makes sense to them to move a family that BOOKED A SPECIFIC ROOM (room 16 to be exact- they told us we couldn’t have number one because it had already been booked- and Pat and I joked with our friends that we were being exiled to the end of the first floor) because of two small children an an elderly person. No. The third floor with no kitchen is not acceptable. We booked this in person the second day of our stay. YOU GAVE OUR ROOM AWAY. IT WAS BOOKED.

They also told him “somebody” emailed him, but when asked they said “oh we don’t know”. CLEARLY you never sent an email. my husband has no email from them except for a receipt from our stay last year. When my husband called back- he was told “I’m not arguing, you’re not coming and that’s it.” Disgusting.

Unprofessional. Unorganized. Unapologetic. Just thought everyone should know.

It’s not that we can’t find other places to stay, there are plenty- but we book with other families. We go on vacation with them, so now our kids are going to miss out. We’ve been looking forward to this since we left last year. We just find their attitude and unwillingness to admit they messed...

We stayed at the Sand Dune the end of June 2022. ||||We have stayed here at least a half dozen times over the years. We have always been very happy with our stay here.....until this year.||||This motel has not been updated in YEARS. The rooms are dirty and gross. The carpet is all stained and filthy. The sofa bed was disgusting, there were hairs all over it and the mattress cover was all stained. The chairs from the table were all ripped and dirty. ||||The beds are rock hard, literally like sleeping on a table. They use flat sheets only, so the sheet kept slipping off the bed, and we ended up on the plastic cover.||||||The bathroom was so dated, and filthy. Our toilet kept clogging, the owner had to plunge it and snake it, it still kept clogging. Then they said that "they never had a problem with this particular toilet" placing the blame on us. We are adults, we know how to properly use a toilet. We shouldn't have to deal with plumbing issues on vacation, and then get blamed for the issues. We ended up leaving 2 days early because we were so disgusted. ||||The rooms are non smoking- however, there is smoking allowed in the common walkway *balcony" people were chain smoking- and i mean CHAIN smoking....our room reeked of smoke, all day and all night. Cigarette butts left in the ash trays outside of every room. All you smell is smoke.....||||The only decent part of the hotel is the pool, the area is kept very tidy.
