We booked this hotel for a weekend at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. We were looking for a place close enough to the park that it would be a short drive in the morning, but under $100 a night. This hotel met that criteria. Our stay was pleasant, even with the hiccups that happened. Admittedly, we're aren't demanding travelers. A clean room, a comfy bed, and a working shower is enough. Was our stay perfect? No. But it wasn't a bad experience by any means.
The hotel has been going through MAJOR renovations since May and there's a lot left to do. But it's leaps and bounds better than the hotel it used to be.
When we arrived for check in the staff was courteous and welcoming. Our reservation was a little complicated but they were flexible and it was was sorted out promptly. No hassle at all. Our room did have a few issues: the Internet was down and the AC wasn't working properly. We went down to the front desk to ask for a fan to compensate for the weak AC. The manager immediately got working on a solution for us. He did a quick check on the rooms he had open on that same hall and tested the AC in the new room. Once he verified that, he asked if we were ok with switching rooms. The new room was only a few doors down so it was not inconvenient at all and it was much cooler so we happily accepted. Both rooms were clean and had plenty of room.
I was a little surprised that the floors in the rooms are wood-like vinyl planks instead of the typical low pile carpet. Some people might fuss about that but I personally like that the room floor was not carpeted. It's so much better for my allergies! The bathrooms were clean and the linens and towels were so soft and crisp. There was a bit of a oops with the shower head.: the seal where the head attached to the pipe was loose so it did spray over the curtain and got the floor very wet. Wasn't a big deal for us since we were there only one night but we did make sure to let the front desk know at checkout so they could get on those repairs right away.
Upgrades always have to be done in phases and the balance of what to upgrade and when it such a tedious process. I don't hold any of the issues against the hotel or the staff. They overall experience showed that they are working hard to turn the place around to being an enjoyable stay at a good value. There's just a few growing pains that are going to happen along the way, and that is totally understandable!
If you're looking for a getaway hotel with lots of bells and whistles, this probably won't meet your expectations. But, if you're looking for a place with a clean room, an attentive and pleasant staff, and exactly what you need at a good value: I'd definitely...
Read moreWe had no housekeeping service during the entire visit, even though we specifically requested, in person at the front desk, at 9:00 am. We were told by the front desk man that he would take care of it. No apologies were offered. We got back at 11:00 pm, the room was as we left it. My husband went to the front desk to bring this to the front desk attention, he was told that the front desk person knew nothing about it, no apologies were offered, and the front desk person just handed him the towels and told him IF he wanted restock of regular coffee, to come back in 5 minutes, and the front desk person may have it ready for him. We paid for 3 breakfasts, which consisted of frozen croissant egg sandwiches, 2 danishes, 1 granola bar, an apple, and a bottle of water in a brown paper bag, handed to us by a rude front desk person. My husband and I realized that we were not staying at an upscale place, we didn't realize we were staying at a flop house. We have stayed at other Clarions, no issues with them. This Clarion was extremely disappointing to...
Read moreThis stay was a huge disappointment. First, our toilet clogged and the front desk had no clue what to do. I suggested a plunger, and instead of helping properly, the staff member said he’d move our room, then suddenly showed up with a plunger anyway. He splashed nasty water everywhere, washed a toilet brush in the tub, and then had the nerve to knock on my door telling me to quiet down—while I was literally cleaning up his mess.
To top it off, I asked for an extra pillow for my pregnant wife and was told “sorry, we can’t give you one.” Between the poor service, the total lack of professionalism, and the refusal to provide even basic comfort, this was hands down one of the worst hotel...
