TL;DR: 4.25 stars - Solid poke bowls with generous portions
Came here about 30 minutes to close, and the employee was starting to clean up. Felt bad, but we made sure to put in our order, eat without making a mess, and leave.
They have a sneeze guarded area where you can see all the options for the poke bowls, but you have to order everything at the kiosks. Make sure to scroll all the way down on your selections to see all the options/toppings.
FOOD: ~Poke Bowls: I got the 2 protein option and my husband got the 3 protein option with rice. The salmon and tuna was solid (they were cubed), and the spicy tuna was the chopped and dressed type. The flavor and texture of the spicy tuna was good.
~Toppings: they have a bunch of different options for toppings where you can choose as many as you want, with only a few of them having a surcharge. the ones we got were cucumber, edamame, green onion, ginger, crab salad (shredded kani), seaweed salad, garlic crisp, roasted seaweed, and fried onions. Everything was good
~Sauce (you can choose up to 2): got the standard sriracha mayo which was tasty
~Shrimp Shumai (3.5/5): standard - note they were deep fried
~Shrimp Tempura (4/5): solid - very crispy and good sized shrimp
~Thai Tea (3.8/5) with boba (2/5): thai tea had good flavor and just creamy enough. The boba was not good though.
Overall, this place was good and better...
Read moreVisited this location twice before writing a review, because some times they’re just having a bad day. I got the pick 2 Poke Bowl and milk tea both times with the same ingredients. The first time was in person, the second was delivered. The rice was undercooked both times - a major flaw for a poke restaurant! The second time I ordered the spicy tuna was made with cheap tuna scrape mixed with Siracha instead of fresh chopped up tuna. When I ordered delivery the avocado that I paid extra for wasn’t in the bowl. When I visited the store it was not as clean as it should be, especially for somewhere serving raw fish. There was trash outside the door, the floors were dirty, the tables were dingy and there were orphan chairs all over. The staff when I visited just couldn’t be bothered. Didn’t even make eye contact. No smiles.
On the pro side, the other ingredients were fresh and the mango was ripe. Portion sizes are generous. When I ordered I asked for my milk tea to be made with milk instead of cream, and they got that right. (Not sure why the milk tea is listed as made with cream on the menu when it’s “milk” tea, but that’s how it is.)
Overall not impressed. Unfortunately there aren’t many poke spots in Williamsburg, so this place will probably do ok until there is competition. Do...
Read moreWe came as a group during the evening on a weekday. Except for a couple to go orders we were the only patrons during our meal. This made for a quiet atmosphere, but makes me wonder about long-term sustainability. Perhaps it was busier in the day and we missed it.
You order at the counter and pick up your food when it's finished. On this particular visit they were out of salmon and tuna for the poke bowls and shrimp tempura. We opted for ramen (tonkotsu chicken, pork), an order of wings, takoyaki, and lychee rose bobba tea.
The ramen was good. The broth is a little salty so I didn't drink it down, but with the noodles it gives it a nice flavor. The wings were the best part, good size and crunchy. The lychee rose was by far my least favorite item. It felt like I was drinking perfume. I've had rose flavor before, but this was overpowering.
My only other thing of note is the name of the establishment is confusing. Outside is DOMOISHI, but it Google Maps it was Yamachan (I submitted an edit request for this). The main entrance has Yamachan branding, but inside is DOMOISHI. There's also a leftover counter from Snap-a-Roll (the previous business). Just...
