I am a long time Patron this establishment and I enjoy the experience each and every time whether I'm sitting in the restaurant and enjoying a meal which I do a lot or doing takeout which I've done this last time. they have the most freshest tortilla chips, and their salsa including their white dip is amazing. it is nothing like any of the other restaurants in the area that I've been to before. the food is flavorful and they're always willing to do any modifications you may need as necessary to a meal,. we have never ever had a bad service or a bad meal there, we've always gone feeling like we're special and it's warm, and it's really nice when you've Patron and establishment so long you can even be calling in a phone order and they know who you are such as in our case lol? but this is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants that I have ever been to since moving back to virginia. now don't get me wrong I've been to other Mexican restaurants in the area but they do not taste the same as la tolteca. they have the most wonderful staff including Maria and whether we get her as our waitress or she's on the phone she has managed to remember our usual order for over 2 and 1/2 years now. she's a delight she's very nice she's always proactive if you need anything and she in addition to the great food there always what makes our experience there so wonderful. it's one of the reasons why that's one of our favorite dinner spots and even as a family as a whole. oh let me not forget their drinks are amazing they do not skimp on the alcohol you definitely get quality drinks especially the mixed ones Frozen or on the rocks of what you pay for. and even their horchata....so if you're looking for a good Mexican and the Williamsburg area don't be afraid to go out towards the outlets and go to La Tolteca it's right next door to Captain George's you will enjoy it, and hopefully you'll become a reoccurring long-term customer...
Read moreAte there tonight (Birthday celebration) and had a terrible experience.
First, I will say that we have eaten there before and have had a reasonable dining experience but tonight .... that was totally different!
Things started with a rude waiter who walked by the table multiple times but couldn't manage to do minor things like keep the glasses refilled or ask how things were.
Next, as he delivered the meal he knocked a drink off the table, soaking my, and my wife's legs. He disappears and comes back, half wipes off the seat, does actually refill my glass and disappears again without ever saying anything!!! Keep in mind that at this point there is ice tea and ice ALL OVER THE FLOOR .... which they left there for staff and customers to walk through during the rest of the meal.
I finally had to get up and go find a different waiter just to get dry napkins .... no sign of the waiter.
Things finally started getting a little better after going up front to find the manager but I actually felt a bit insulted when, upon receiving the bill, I was told that she (the manager) had knocked off something for our troubles.
Sorry, $5.00 and change doesn't compensate me for a $50.00+ tab and a ruined evening.
Will I go back? Nope, I really don't think so. Perhaps I should blame it on the full moon, but I don't feel that the management really cares about the...
Read moreThis is another of the similar Mexican restaurants that have sprung up over the past 7-10 years; all have similar decor and fare, and sometimes even the same menu. I always look for Los Dos Amigos first, the burritos made with beef tips and smothered in queso, as it's my favorite dish. Affordable and delicious food, almost always served up quickly enough for a lunch hour visit, by cheerful and accommodating wait staff who also bring tortilla chips and salsa right away for crunching (addictive!!) until your order arrives (and continue to bring refills, if you want). One word of caution for those sensitive to spicy food: peppers are plant products, and subtle differences between plants or growing conditions can affect how much "hot" is in a pepper. For any given dish, the amount of diced pepper can be exactly the same today as it was yesterday, and the dish can be somewhat more or less spicy. (Probably obvious to those who cook regularly, but not as much for us non-culinary types, and I've had my tongue lit up a time or two!) Hot or not, it's always been too good to stop eating, and I'm not a...
