On a trip to Williamsburg a few months back, we stopped at the Home of the Twister at The Big Scoop on Richmond Road. What is the Twister, you might be wondering? Well, let’s find out!

We were greeted promptly and graciously by the young ladies behind the counter, but we needed a moment to tour the large and inviting menu. The Big Scoop offers both “hard scoop” and soft serve ice creams in cones, dipped, or in cups with toppings; milkshakes with all kinds of flavors, refreshing Italian ice, tempting floats, and fresh squeezed lemonade; decadent hot fudge brownie sundae, or loaded banana boats; and lastly, ice cream nachos.

These ice cream nachos are made with soft serve ice cream with two toppings of your choice, garnished with either hot fudge or caramel sauce, and served with waffle cone “chips” for dipping. These waffle chips are described as made to order for each bowl of ice cream nachos. There are specialty ice cream nachos, such as the Cookie Jar, which features twisted chocolate and vanilla soft ice creams, chocolatey Oreos and sinful cookie dough, and their half and half waffle chips: half the waffle chips are traditional, and half are chocolate waffle chips.

Have you selected your treat? We have some more frozen delights to share with you! My husband was curious to discover what the “Twister” was and why it was so important to The Big Scoop. Always craving decadent chocolate, my husband went for the Brownie Twister, and he was not disappointed! Heaping chunks of brownies were blended with soft serve vanilla ice (or your choice of chocolate ice cream) and topped with fresh, housemade whipped cream from a piping bag, which dazzled my husband’s fancy.

Seeking simpler times, I ordered the Root Beer Snowball, which layered rich vanilla soft serve ice cream with classic Root Beer Italian ice. If you want a root beer float, but better, this is the treat for you! I really appreciated how all the flavors were kept intact and didn’t melt too quickly so I could enjoy the sweet team of mint, vanilla, anise, nutmeg, and all those other notes we find so appealing about root beer. I’ve honestly been craving this dessert quite a bit over the past few weeks.

Next time you’re passing through Williamsburg, and shopping at the Prime Outlets (an outdoor shopping mall with a variety of apparel, shoe, and accessories stores for you to enjoy), stop by The Big Scoop. I guarantee you’ll be thinking about your frozen treat for...

We have been to this ice cream shop a few times and tonight will be the last. We were shocked by how horribly rude one of the employees was and the terrible customer service. When we walked in, there was no one out in the shop. Then after waiting a bit, we hear a teen boy employee come out of the office. He turned to his coworkers and was angry at them for not coming out since there were people waiting to order ice cream.

My husband and I both wanted soft serve twist cones with sprinkles and it seemed like there was an issue with the machine. He dumped my soft serve cone into a cup without asking and tried to pour sprinkles into it. The ice cream was basically soup. When I asked if he could remake my cone he turned to his coworkers and angrily asked them to see if the machine was still working. They were in the middle of assisting other customers and he was annoyed with them that he had to be the one to redo the cone. Then he poured the soft serve into a different type of cone. The soft serve did not taste right - it was really icey so we so gave it back and said we weren’t interested. It looked like it was just teens working there, no manager. If you are visiting Williamsburg and want some ice cream, I would recommend skipping this place and going to either Rita’s, Sno to Go, or Meadows instead.

————————— Edit to add: I am reposting this review. After initially submitting this review, the employee mentioned above took it upon himself to try to add me via social media. We found this to be extremely inappropriate as we should be able to write an honest review without fear that an employee would try and find my personal information. We informed the owners of the Big Scoop and they apologized for our experience and that they will be...

Went there this afternoon was totally blown away with how pleasant and happy the young men were behind the counter. Very thoughtful and very sweet. I had the soft serve with some sprinkles and it was yummy very very good!!! The young man who is doing the soft serve in a cone was still learning how to twirl it around and it was almost too big and a little lopsided so we went with the cup and even asked me if this was okay. When I told him it’s just too big and clunky and leaning over he said no worries and threw it out and did it in the cup for me with a ton of sprinkles on it. And he did all this with a big smile and just as sweet as could be! And everything was laid out so nice with so many types of toppings and so many flavors!! They also had the vegan soft serve ice cream pineapple and some other flavors and stuff that looked awesome!!! Oh and they also have a place set up on a platform with picnic benches and tables and umbrellas under a big beautiful tree in the parking lot for family so whoever wants to sit there can enjoy their ice cream! Please give this place a try I promise you you’ll be back...

We went twice in 2 days. Lol The first day, we caught them just before closing, and the young fellow seemed new to the job, but he was super helpful and didn't make us feel like an inconvenience. I let him know I have a peanut allergy, and he took care of my order. My sundae had cookie dough bites and oreos. It was absolutely delicious. This may be our new Williamsburg ice cream shop! 🍦🍨😋

An amazing local find! This ice cream parlor has everything by you could want; unique hard scoop flavors, multiple Italian ice options and even soft serve! Prices were reasonable and sizes generous. We got kid sizes (cone picture) and a small (cup picture) which was easily enough for me and my husband to share. And the staff were kind and quick. Next time I’m in Williamsburg I’ll be coming back!
